One of your better blog entries! (and they're all good) I love the idea of Captain Corsaro. I also love the idea of all lights off after dark. What an opportunity for clear star-gazing, weather permitting. And I LOVED that Indian Ocean sunset. It reminds me of one we saw, when we sailed from Bali years ago. Many thanks.
Eyes That Do Not Cry, Do Not See I've just shared this beautiful quote with several -- thank you for passing along, in addition to your beautiful overview of Sri Lanka, the teardrop island. As always, your descriptions and pictures make me almost feel as if I'm there. Thank you, and a peaceful journey to you.
Sri Lanka, China, and Africa I very much enjoyed your narrative as I just completed giving a presentstion to our community chapter of the Foreign Policy Association. China is making its presence known there and in the rest of the third world to preserve their access to sources of natural resources and emerging markets; they are quite the nation-state pursuing their interests; there is a downside as they will strip things bare and move on. Keep those narratives coming on the countries you visit. In photo from inside the tuk-tuk do I see the hands of someone hanging on for dear life? Jim (Diana)
Awsome Fun You guys are having too much fun--ought to be taxed or something. But---keep on truckin' and doing it anyway. YOu do it so well and,as usual, I am envious.
Fond Memories Kevin & Susan: Loved the photos and narrative of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. It brought back wonderful memories of our visit to these ports on the Ocean Princess. I especially loved seeing your comments about the E&O Hotel in Penang............we had a lovely lunch there during our port call.
Table tennis Love your blogs. So informative. Who won the table tennis match? We are not playing TT but paddle tennis. Had part of a cyclone coming from Sydney to Perth. 40 foot seas and 100 mph winds. Ship and we did great. Captain gave us this numbers. See u in Cape Town.
Vietnam Past and Present Rex Hotel! The view from the rooftop restaurant was quite different in '64 and '68; you could see a bit of the war well into the distance. As a two-tour grunt I have put away most of it. But, I am happy for the Vietnamese: peace! Enjoying your narratives and photos.
Annie I didn't realize Annie was on board with you guys until I saw your picture of her. Tell her I still have the incriminating photos I took when her cabin was just above ours on the back of the ship on the last Regent world cruise.
Vietnam You mentioned that both of you had been there during the war. What were you guys doing then? I was in the Army Reserves in Hawaii waiting to get called up in the late 60's but they called up the National Guard instead so I avoided the war.
When we were in Saigon several years ago we were on a Princess ship that was way too big for the river so we got to experience that wonderful (Ha!) bus ride. Sailing up the river sounds terrific.
Vietnam Susan, your blogs are really excellent ! You capture the essence wherever you are and always manage to add a new perspective to even the most familiar places....looking forward to your next blog!
Sharia Brunei Kevin, you look darling! Any reactions to impact of Sharia law in Brunei.? There is such a negative reaction when it comes up back here. Is there a benevolent Sharia? Back here it is viewed as oppressive. Jim
Hole-in-one Enjoy your narratives and photos. Miserable winter up north; brings our temperature down a bit, too. I only play social golf and more than a few shots have a certain randomness to them. One randomed into the hole from the tee! Amazing excitement from golf mates, and me! Jim
Great photos and commentary. When last we were there, we visited the Peninsula Hotel where we had stayed in the 70's but had a hard time finding it because of the massive buildings that now surround and hide it. A little sad since it used to be one of the landmark properties in Hong Kong.
Happy Birthday! Nice to see Kevin has another birthday partner with Dodi. We remember the celebrations with Dag. Please give Dodi & Larry our regards and keep some for yourselves. XO ML
Too Much Fun!!!! OK-too much fun, now get down to working--like having too much fun.
Thakns for pic of Capt Dag-didn't know where hew was. WIll you cross paths??
Dick
Happy Birthday, Kevin What a way to celebrate your birthday. Lucky guy! You must be about a Valentine baby. Was this a routine birthday or one divisible by 5? Mike's 70ieth is on March 8. We don't have big plans. Happy sailing. Mike and Sandy
Happy Birthday! Looks like you are having quite a trip! We have enjoyed following your blogs, but have had a lot of trouble sending from the ship. We are on land now and this comes to you from Bluff, NZ (at the very south of South Island) We are touring down south for another few days then back to Devonport to see the Volvo Round the World yachts arrive in Auckland. Do you have any plans for next year yet?
Henry
What ship is Capt. Dag on now and with what cruise line? Do you ever see him? Supposed to get into the high 70's today. I'm off to a bridge tournament in Burlingame this morning. Happy sailing!
Perth We also enjoyed Perth and Fremantle very much. What surprised us was the vast wine growing areas near Perth. I tasted some very nice wines at several vinyards while we were there but did not begin to explore all the area to the South and East of Perth. We took the Indian Pacific Railroad from Sydney to get there and that was an experience all on its own.
