strong finish In this installment there is a picture with the caption "hot and humid". My question is..... which is which? We have enjoyed your adventures and hope you have a safe trip home
Jacob's Ladder We are more than proud that you not only tackled the Ladder, but you "summited" as the climbers say. We, on the other hand, have a picture of John on about the 8th step to prove we were there. Another memory of the island was seeing Dag on board the anchored LNG ship visiting another Norwegian captain while he awaited an assignment.
Toward the end. Thank you for all those interesting and entertaining blogs.
Only a few more days and you will disembark into the day-to-day world again.
Have a good summer and warm greetings.
LOVED CAPETOWN Cape Town is one of our favorite cities, we only wish it was not on the other side of the world. One of my highlights was having the tour guide we hired take us to Graham Beck Wintery as their Rose is one of my favorite sparkling wines. I hand carried a set of their crystal goblets back with me in my cabin bag and think of South Africa whenever I open a bottle of their rose bubbly. Especially loved the photo of Kevin with the sunrise between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. We are at the Portland airport heading to Chicago for 5 days before flying off to Bucharest on Thursday to begin our 3 weeks of travel through former Eastern Bloc Soviet Countries. Do you want me to put you guys on our email list. We'll be in Transylvania next Saturday at "Dracula's Castle. Should make for a fun email story. As always, we love your blogs. Mary Anne
Madagascar One place I've always wanted to visit but haven't yet...wish I was cruising with you this year! But at least I can read your excellent blog post and share the experience thru them! )
I first visited madagascar in the early 90's 0n a Holland America world cruise, and glad to see that they still have the tablecloths hanging on a clothes line-I bought one from a cute lady with her face painted with white dots- what an adventure you're having!!!
Lemurs & Such Oh how I've always wanted to go to Madagascar! Your description and pictures provide only further encouragement. Jack and I are enjoying Istanbul as I write this to you ... thanks for the excellent tips.

Adventurous I wish you to know once more how I enjoy your well researched and wonderfully written and illustrated travel exploits. Still feel close to you all and the ship with that. Warm greetings.
Great Travel Always enjoy reading your comments and looking at the pictures. We're housebound right now as I deal with some health problems. Keep up the good work.
Love your travel blog David & I so enjoy your travel blog, but it's even more fun to be traveling with you two in person and we hope to do it again soon!
Zanzibar! Now you are in the part of your itinerary that makes me drool with envy. Zanzibar! Madagascar! There is something so magical in just the names, and to think what's there. Nascar! Rebar! Cigar! - Nope, those don't do it for me, so it's got be more than just the sounds.
Response to blog Thought you might like to know that the Seychelle wind turbines are just like the ones that crowd Iowa farms up by the lakes. Those things are huge. It must be quite a task to get them to an island. We are still watching March Madness basketball but were very sad to see our favorites, Iowa State, KU, UNI, and Wichita State, fall.
Your talk of pirates sounds a bit scary but I guess you two are used to adventure.
Travel safely.
Sandy
Kenya Great pictures as usual. East Africa has always been high on my bucket list but after reading your description of Mombasa and seeing the pictures, I am not quite as enthusiastic. Did the owner of the lodge talk about how the economy and the Islamic unrest were affecting her business? Seems that the Islamic problem is going to really hurt all of North And CEntal Africa.
Cape Town/Singapore We did this trip Dec/Jan 2015. Kenya was canceled, did a 4 day safari before we boarded the Voyager, which was fantastic - saw all the animals. David got quite ill and the doctor sent us off the ship in the Mal Dives to a clinic that was muslim - quite an experience. He was sick the entire trip. Doctor gave him wrong medicine that did not interact well. We will tell you the story some day..Enjoy your trip
Demise of African Elephants -A National Geographic survey of 600 middle- and upper-income Chinese people in 2013 found that 84 percent planned to buy ivory goods and 87 percent associated it with a feeling of “prestige.” Eliminate this attitude of Chinese and wealthy mideasterners and the poaching goes away!
Oh my ... What an enlightening post! It does give pause, and then a smile, because it's so Kevin and Susan to find the beauty while practicing high risk security precaution, ie stargazing while the ship's lights are out. May your 13 days be uneventful and filled with beautiful night skies.
We're Jealous !!!!! It seems like we weren't even on the Whisper ! We've been home in Florida for 18 days already. Wish we were still with you !
Bob & Linda :)
THANK YOU OMG! I want your life. Every post you send is fascinating. Is the candle light just romantic or is it a little scarey? Do you ever feel unsafe on any of your shore excursions? You two absolutely amaze me. We have got to cruise with you again so I can sit with a drink and listen to your stories. Thank you, this is delightful. Lynda
Janaka It was good to see Janaka again....He was getting off in Sri Lanka for a break I thought. If not, give him a "hello" from us. Bonnie and David Shannon
Conservativeness! Islam has its presence indeed! I have found in my reading that Islam has a quite interesting appeal when interpreted as a positive force -- actually one of tolerance of others and their differing religious beliefs. Modern Sharia is distorting this appeal and replacing it with intolerance. Too bad.
I just finished doing a presentstion on Africa which required a lot of getting myself up to date in spite of visits to Seychelles, Tanzania, S. Africa, Namibia and past military visits to Somalia and Egypt. Africa is in a cycle of promised good governance, rebellion, civil war, displaced population, negotiation, elections, and the cycle starts again. I look forward to your impressions as you go along. I hope you visit St. Helena -- such a short bed Napoleon had in exile! Jim
