Hello Everyone! Sorry that the blog has not been updated recently. It has certainly been a busy and eventful week. I finished up my French program on the 19th of June (which, I am proud to say that I have passed) and then Dad and I headed for Tofino. We started out with a quick grocery shop to pick up some things for our hostel stay in Tofino as we knew that the prices would likely be inflated given the smaller town. Then we caught the ferry and had a great hour and a half ride to Nanimo. From here we had a really exciting car ride up valleys and through mountains for about 5 hours until we reached our final destination in Tofino at a hostel. On the drive we stopped just before Port Alberni ... read more
Hello Again! Today was a great day. Three of my friends and I went on an extended beach tour. We began our journey with a two hour walk to Spanish Banks beach and then to Loncardo beach. The water there was amazing. They have sand bars that you can continue walking on for what seems to be forever. The sand was so soft on our feet. Then we decided to park it for a bit and catch the rays. After this we continued our hike and made it to Jericho beach and Kitsilano Beach. I had a nice 45 minute nap on the beach while my friends went into the huge pool there. I was too cheap to pay for the entry fee (5.15). Haha. Well, enjoy all of the photos! I am still wide awake ... read more
GROUSE GRIND! Now, I hear that people run up this all of the time, however, for me I believe that this was one of the most physically enduring activities I have overcome. I am proud of this one. I climbed the Grouse Mountain in Vancouver and boy oh boy was it ever challenging. We started out in a group of four and about 20 minutes up the other two were flying up the hill leaving Sheri and I in their dust. For this, they have earned the nickname "Mountain Goat". I was glad to have another friend who was not as keen to race up the hill and together through many breaks and photographs of proof that we did this we made it to the top! Now the average person does this in about an hour ... read more
Bonjour! This past weekend I was spoiled as both LA and Jos came up to visit me. I had a lot of fun sharing some of my experiences in Vancouver with them. We were able to see Stanley park, observe the tail fluke of the baby beluga at the vancouver aquarium poking out as she gave birth the day that we were there and visit granville island. I would say that without a doubt it was my favourite weekend in Vancouver. I have always felt that 'travelling' on my own would be exactly what I wanted but having been out here the past few weeks I realize that it was only what I "thought" I wanted based on everyone else's personal experience. As it turns out, I prefer to be with the people who I love ... read more
Bonjour Mes Amies! How are you all doing? I miss everyone so much and am really happy that you are all reading and enjoying my blogs. This blog is an update on my new found perspective and love of Wreck Beach and it's evenings. The sunsets here are incredible, in fact, they are said to be one of the best places to view the sunset (mom, you would just love it). The atmosphere is much less intimidating than during the day - there are fewer people (99% of whom are clothed), the beach is beautiful and the sunset is amazing. I really enjoyed seeing a variety of people doing all different activities. Some were there with loved ones sitting or walking the beach, other's were skim boarding along the water's edge while a mass amount of ... read more
Bonjour! Whistler was a blast. We had such a great time seeing the beautiful mountains and enjoying a rather relaxed weekend. The bus drive was interesting, two yellow school buses for 96 people and a terribly cramped bottom later we were there! The drive up was incredible as many people informed me of - driving through the mountains was so georgous and has me looking forward to my trip to the rockies with my dad. The first day there we had dinner at the Ol' Spaghetti Factory and then went out to a little bar called the "Savage Beagle". This was a good time as we got free cover and a free drink. The girls and I ended up dancing about 2 1/2 hours of the night and then headed home. Now, we were told to ... read more
Bonjour Mes amies! This weekend is a trip to whistler! I am very excited about this and have purchased a new camera for the occasion. I will put up pictures when I am back. Hope that everyone is having a great time - I miss you all. Bonjour mes amis! Sorry for the lack of messages that past few days - I have been very busy and my internet was down for the last few days. I do have some fun updates and photographs though for everyone! Enjoy :) Mercredi 20 Mai - The whole group (French & English learners) went on a 3-hour boat cruise. It was downtown at the Plaza of Nations. It went through the English Bay to West Vancouver and back (mostly, it left the bay and then sat still for the sunset). It was very beautiful and quite fun as it was a party boat with pumping music and lots of fun times. I met quite a few other people on the boat (bateau en francais) that are now great friends of mine. Jeudi 21 Mai - I ... read more
Bonjour, UBC is a very large university! Today the tour was an hour and twenty minutes - long but well worth it to get my bearings. So to start things off here is a nice itinerary of what I have been up to today: 1. Woke up @ 6:22am and decided to explore downtown Vancouver to buy some things that I needed (towel, utensils, etc) 2. Found myself downtown in Vancouver for 3 hours wandering the streets (the bus ride down was amazing, so very beautiful - I love seeing the mountains everywhere I look) looking for either a Walmart or a Zellers - This was very unsuccesful. Everyone that I asked looked at me as though I had a few too many heads as most of the area is very posh and expensive. They suggested ... read more
