I can relate to this a lot - similar things have happened to me in Moscow and your blog conveys well the momentous downer that follows. Moscow's a land of extreme contrasts and extreme ups and downs though. And if I look back on all my time there I have to say the ups massively outweigh the downs, the really good people I've met massively outweigh the bad.
Your melancholy side......... Enjoyed the emotions "playing" in this blog. You do write beautifully Jon, and express your sentiments very subtly yet powerfully.
Beautifully written blog as usual. Have just written one about the Moscow metro myself but am collecting photos before I publish it. Somehow its ending is almost identical to the above blog - people's scowls breaking into smiles at the sight of unjaded children!
Some interesting places to catch 40 winks! I've also been to the Hotel Fatima in Kazan by the way, in fact my profile picture was taken in a room there on New Year's Eve 2007/8 having just wrapped up and preparing to head out into the minus 20 degrees cold!
I'd never have thought a list could say so much about someone's experiences but this really does, almost as much as in what's not written as what is. I think it's quite a work of art :)
I know you sometimes feel like life isnt very interesting but seriously... one day you will read that list and realise just what an amazing experience you've had :)

Beautiful photo of the puffin! I am so jealous! I trekked round all of Iceland looking for Puffins only to find they were all leaving their breeding grounds and heading out to sea without a backward glance. Glad you had better luck getting photos than I did!
Precious time spent........... Time with family, is treasured time. You're wise to take off with your mom and grandmom for a week. Mull is familiar territory to you, yet I bet it looked the same, yet not exactly the same each time you visit. The place may remain the same, but WE may have changed. Oh, how I repeat myself!
great entry You have a wonderful eye for detail, and the writing skills to convey it. A writer like you can take something like the morning commute and make it sing. Thanks--I felt like I was there.
The areas around your office look absolutely gorgeous! What an amazing commute! My new one involves stepping out of my front door and crossing the road :)
I am a British translator and travel writer. I now live in London, after working in Ukraine for three years. My blog is a collection of stories about the people and places that have captured my imagination during my travels through Europe - I hope you'll enjoy them.
