Right, well have been back a week and it's the night before I go back to school. Ben went back to work on tuesday and both of us are totally amazed at how quickly things have returned to normal. Have uploaded lots of piccies onto Facebook but haven't actually got round to uploading Singapore piccies on here. The flight was mostly fine and we got to Heathrow 10 minutes ahead of schedule. We were back in our ickle house for just gone 7.00 that morning and I'm pleased to say neither of us have really suffered with jet lag. It really was an amazing five weeks and I'm already thinking of where we can go next but unfortunately we have the small (!) issue of saving first. If you're thinking of going to Oz (or even ... read more
Our last day in Singapore. We're just waiting to get picked up in an hour or so to go to the airport. It really has gone sooooo fast. Just hoping for an uneventful and safe flight back to Blighty. Despite being our last day we've still fitted a lot in. This morning we went to the Changi Museum and Chapel which is the place where the British, Australian and Indian POW's spent the second world war during Japenese ocupation of Singapore. Really moving and makes you think about how easy we've all got it nowadays. After the museum (only three rooms but we spent more than 3 hours there!) we headed off to Gloria Jean's for our last coffee of the holiday and then for a bit of light relief to 'Tiger Live!' This is an ... read more
Right, well we're back at the internet cafe waiting to check-in online for our flight tomorrow so we thought we'd see if we could add some piccies (fingers crossed!). Went to Sentosa today and had a really good time. Got there by going on a cable car that took in wonderful views of Singapore. Went on a couple of rides and watched a 4D film then went on somthing called a luge which is a cross between a go kart and sledge - lots of fun. I was rubbish and took a leisurely pace to the end and Ben thought he was Lewis Hamilton! The ride takes you down to a man made beach which is truly gorgeous and has to be seen to be believed. We had to take a chair life back up to ... read more
What a jam packed week and a bit it's been! Here's a brief summary of the events. Mon 11th - Got to Perth airport and met Ben's sister Lauren and hubby Chris. Tues 12th - Went to Fremantle, had a mooch about the shops, went along the marina, visited a roundhouse jail (one of the first in Western Australia) that fired a cannon which was bloody loud! Weds 13th - Visited Perth city (Ben' sister lives in a town abot 40 mins away called Jarradale). Lovely place, wished we had more time to explore (oh well an excuse to go back!). Met Ben's dad's cousin Margaret who was really lovely and knew lots about the area. Visited King's Park which had divine gardens, a tree top walk and gorgeous views of the city. Thurs 14th - ... read more
Just got back from our winnery tour of the Barossa Valley and have had the best time drinking lots and lots of wine! Our tour guide from he Groovy Grape company picked us up really early (about 7.55!) and took us first to the biggest rocking horse in the world - it really was massive. We then went onto a huge dam called 'The Whispering Wall' where one person walks across to one end and the acoustics mean that you can have a conversation with someone like they were right next to you. After this our tour guide said to everybody 'Right, lets get pissed!" and took us to our first winnery at Jacob's Creek (our wine guide didn't really know anything about the wine process but knew lots of facts he'd obviously got out of ... read more
Right, got to Adelaide yesterday and the jury's still out on what we think of the place! It was an ickle bit stressful driving in after lots of wide country roads with nothing to see apart from great views to then drive into a city with traffic lights and beeping cars certaining made me freak (esp as I was the one reading the map!). Had two nights on Kangaroo island weds to fri and had a very rough crossing across (I felt quite sick). This however was nothing in comparison to the drive from the port, Penneshaw to our hotel in a place called Kingscote. We'd got to the port at night so it was very dark - maybe this doesn't seem to bad to all you city folk but there are very few lamposts on ... read more
Right, so impressed we were that a computer on out trvels has let us upload some piccies we've decided to come back and put on some more! The weather has been pretty awful today, went for a walk along the river and had a ride on one of Adelaide's free buses (yes free!) around the town. Really impressed that there's free buses and they're not manky either! There's free buses in Melbourne too which of course we took full advantage of! After even more horrible rain we decided we'd had enough of Adelaide so we caught a bus (had to pay this time!) to a German village called Hahndorff. Very picturesqe and with FANTASTIC sweet shops! Ben of course had to have a German hot dog (when in Rome and all that) which also included (don't ... read more
We're just at the ferry terminal waiting for our ferry to depart in about half an hour to Kangaroo Island. Unfortunately the weather is a bit poo and the sea looks extremely choppy even in port so I expect I'll be a nervous wreck (shouldn't say that word) the whole crossing. So far the road trip has been lovely but once again i'm using a computer that doesn't take piccies so people will have to wait! On Monday we arrived at this lovely little fishing village called Port Fairy that had lots of lovely people in it (e.g. we asked the barman in a pub how much it cost to have a game of pool. He told us $3 and got the money out of the till and gave it to us! Then a woman put ... read more
Right well we're on day two of our six day road trip and both of us can now say we've driven an automatic car and driven in Australia (although I only drove around a car park!). At the minute we're in a place called Apollo Bay which is on the Great Ocean Raod. It's very quiet but really chilled and the veiws are AMAZING! We're also just on the beach so we've had an ickle walk along the golden sands. I was REALLY freaked out about driving out of Melbourne but it wasn't so bad in the end and Ben seemed really confident (although later he told me he wasn't brimming with confidence!). The views along the Great Ocean Road are truly awe inspiring and it's hard not to pull over every few minutes to take ... read more
