For those of you who have managed to get to this site without knowing what it is about then this is the story.
My name is Jim Morrison and I am planning to do a cycle ride from John o' Groats to Land's End starting on the 13th May May. The main aim is to do the ride for its own sake but it is really great to have the opportunity to try and raise some money for a very wothwhile cause. This is Medic Malawi, and you can find out about them from the following link.
www.medicmalawi.org
I intend to keep in touch with those who have donated, and anybody else for that matter, with my progress in training and the actual trip. If you would like to donate please go to

I have just received some photos of the school roof project in Malawi which was the beneficiary of you support for my ride earlier this year and a note from Sally Ewings, who with her husband Peter Lee and son Ben visited and assisted with the project this summer. The following is part of her email to me;- " We are home safely from our big adventure and wanted to show you what the group of Exeter builders did in 3 long days at Chalizya School. The whole community got involved with the building work and everyone was delighted with the two new roofs on buildings which had previously been completely open to the weather. We had a great welcome, the chiefs came from the surrounding areas for a ceremony of speeches and thanks to all

As the crow flies the distance is about 870 but very welcome diversions to Edinburgh, Mappelwell, Birmingham and the not so welcome ones around the Cornish coves, as demanded by NCR 3, add to the miles. I thought that I would show some more photos taken by Mary's brother John who was with me from Birmingham to Bristol. Also some at the end taken by Sally and Peter

Each morning I have been very pleased with what seems like a good recovery from the day before but by the afternoon I want it to be over asap. The only comfort is that the more miles I do is less to do later. The cycle route I chose for the final days was National Cycle Route 3. The designers of this route are determined that you will not miss out on the lovely coves that predominate in Cornwall. This means that there are a lot of very steep downs and ups of which I had had enough. I abandoned this the NCR 3 after Truro while preferring the B roads that

I passed by Truro and enjoyed a coffee there and then onto Redruth for a pasty arriving in Penzance by late afternoon. Now looking forward to the very last stage of the journey tomorrow morning before meeting Sally-peter and Mary at Lands End.........perhaps I should turn around and start the journey once again.........................!!! The weather has been fine with some wind but certainly less than yesterday. I have enjoyed a nice ride along the camel trail into Bodmin. My route took me over the old airfield at Davidstow where the cheese is produced and I saw signs of the shells of old wartime buildings. I did a few extra miles than planned today to make tomorrow slightly easier (hopefully) -which means my penultimate day will probably be about 60 miles. I have enjoyed Mevagissey this evening and have managed to find another good B & B. Jim

However, it has been surprisingly ok as at times like these one can withdraw into ones shell and cycle on almost oblivious to the conditions! I had my third puncture along the Tiverton canal but enjoyed the lovely scenery along the length of the canal which gave me time to reflect on the dreadful B & B I had stayed in last night in Taunton. I was so relieved when I arrived there to discover it had a bath only to discover there was no plug and when I enquired about this the owner explained-"none of the bath have plugs as we are worried about people flooding the bathrooms and therefore the baths can't be used"!!!!! They didn't like the fact that I had asked

I had mapped the ride to cross the river Severn that had a road at each side but no bridge or ferry in between! This necessitated John and I cycling for 3 miles through lush meadows along side the river. We enjoyed plenty of refreshments stops on route and had a pretty full days cycle with an overnight stop in the travelodge at Tewkesbury ! Jim

I arrived just at 4.30 in good time to meet John off the train at New Street. We made our way to Kings Heath and had a lovely evening with Liz and Chris and James who was also able to join us for a Balti at Dawat. Myself and John enjoyed great hospitality with Liz and Chris before heading off early the next morning. Jim

I have enjoyed cycling with John over the last 2 days....and indulging in coffee stops and fish and chips for lunch....... We left Tewkesbury fairly early this morning and John rode with me until Bristol where he then got the train back to London. I was keen to get a bit further along the route than I had originally planned and managed another 40 miles along the A38 to Taunton. Getting to this point will give me a bit of a head start tomorrow for the leg to Okehampton..... I was sorry not to have been able to meet up with my friend Brian today who started the LEJOG last friday and was in Cheddar today-However this would have taken me away from

It is a pity as they were in almost total agreement before that. When they disagree it is always by 10 miles with the cycle computer giving the higher mileage. I'll need to look into this when I get back. Anyway today was dominated by high winds which were at their worst at the beginning of the ride because there was little shelter. The wind was mostly against me. However when I had got past Buxton there was almost 15 miles of lovely off road cycle path that was suited to my bike and was mostly downhill. When I arrived in Ilam there was this
