| 28th November 2007 marg | real estate comment - From: Dubai, from the sky! watched a program on dubai - the Islands they build in the sea all have water front views - raises the value of them - very inventive - what an amazing creation in the desert - cool |
| 28th November 2007 Diann Vail | Palm Islands - From: Dubai, from the sky! Hi pat - I just watched a documentary on how the Palm Islands were created. IT seems that money can buy almost everything - including land added to your country. Can't imagine feeling secure at all living there - what happens if ocean levels rise? Also - all I could think of is how difficult it would be to escape from there - when all the traffic must pass through a bottleneck. Even those round circles of private homes - they must all pass through the 'stem' of the design to get out. Hmmmm - I've studied far too much about women in these countries. It's all fascinating though - to see how a tiny country creates more space. Japan does the same thing, of course, but not to that extent. Maybe Japan is more vulnerable to tsunami's - and that is why they don't extend their land as much as they have in Dubai. Still enjoying your blogs..... still thinking about how to do this trip myself. Diann |
| 28th November 2007 Yan | Wow again!!! - From: Out of Kenya! Hi Pat, Looks like you still have lots of fun out there! | 20th November 2007 Judy T | Pat, Pat, Pat! - From: Dubai, or "not to buy"!.....that is always the question! A no brainer: "Do-Buy"! Tell Jan B. I can't wait to see her new golf clothing purchased during this trip. The closest I have come to Dubai has been in watching the golf tournament out there and the features on its luxury especially one of the hotels for the rich and famous (Like you?). Now, by going onto the streets and into the markets, you have given another dimension of life out there. Wonder why their health care system is so efficient...probably linked to their very healthy economy. Keep happy. |

| 16th November 2007 Jenny | - From: Sweatin' and shopping in Siem Riep! Hi Pat! Wow!!! You are amazing!!! Thank you so much for making this World Tour come alive for those of us who can't be there. I can't even begin to explain to you how wonderful it is to be able to have this way of witnessing all of our hard work at the office paying off. Not just the pics Pat, but as well as all your commentary in your blogging. You're funny and very descriptive of all the adventures. Please tell Ben we miss him and it's not the same around here without his sarcasm...lol. Glad you all seem to be having such a wonderful time. Take care and may you all be blessed during the rest of all your adventures to come on the Northern World Tour 2007. - Jenny (Travel Guild Staff) |
| 16th November 2007 Kevin and Gail | hello from New Zealand - From: Rockin' and rollin' in Siem Riep! Hello Pat, We are continuing to enjoy sharing your wonderful Northern Tour with your blog........We really do wish we were there! Cambodia was probably one of our favourite places. We are travelling around the South Island of New Zealand and loving it. The scenery is unbelievable. We can see why they filmed Lord of the Rings here; rainforest, ocean, desert, alps. It is all here. We went on a little tour in the forest to see real "kiwis" after dark....we did see some and it was the highlight of our trip so far. So hello from New Zealand and keep up the wonderful blog! Kevin and Gail Nally Green Group 2006 |
| 16th November 2007 Diane Zeppilli | Ralph Lauren - From: Rockin' and rollin' in Siem Riep! Hi Pat.. Ben appears to be wearing a new Ralph Lauren shirt. It reminds me of our little couple on the motor bike selling 'Ralp Lauren' In 2006. Did you meet up with the same couple? We are enjoying the journey. Diane Zeppilli |
| 15th November 2007 Nelson | Not to close - From: Rockin' and rollin' in Siem Riep! Hi Joan, I can see that you are having a great time....... but not to close to that ......gentleman...... I'll keep an eye on that.......:o>>> bye |
| 15th November 2007 The Z's | Look'in Good - From: Rockin' and rollin' in Siem Riep! Pat: Thanks for your daily current events updates and pictures of the area, travelers and of course the many "mouth watering" food choices of each country. Dawn looks great celebrating her "29"th and Keith, what a lovely "bunch of coconuts". Hello to Jan and Keith, Dawn and John, the R's and The B's..........with envy from the Z's |
| 15th November 2007 Tracey Ripley | great pics - From: You've got to be here to believe it! We love looking at all these pictures, you look like you are all having an amazing time. Happy Birthday Dad/Grampa/DSR!!!!!!!!!!! Love Tracey, Richard, Max & Jack |
| 15th November 2007 Carol Cumming Speirs-- from the trip | amazing trip - From: You've got to be here to believe it! Many thanks Pat for 'going on line' with pictures and info about our great trip. The visit on Tonle Sap Lake today near Angor reminded me of the children's story of Ping....He was the little boy who lived--if memory serves--in a tiny house made of reeds on stilts on a mighty river in China--We have followed the Mekong River (originates in China) now in two countries. Some of the poverty and hardship we saw was real and heart wrenching. We also saw people who were enterprising showing resiiliance. Still I am left with many haunting images......a family standing by the buses. Father in the background holding an infant, mother holding a physically handicapped toddler (large growth on his back) and their older son--three or four years old--asking for money in the shyest way. Mother's eyes were sad was also pleading for money pointing to the handicap. |
| 15th November 2007 HappYanski | Great time!!! - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Hi Pat, You're all having a great adventures out there! I would simply like to be with all of you!!! Simply keep having fun :-) HappYanski |
| 15th November 2007 Linda (London) | - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Hi Pat, One of the really neat parts of reading the responses to your trip is seeing the different places in Canada that your blog followers are from - or currently travelling to. From East to West, you seem to have touched and established connections with so many lives - obviously geography certainly isn't a barrier for you. Except, as I understand it, water might just be that geographic barrier :-} As my mom would say "It's a small world, after all!" Cheers & safe travels to you, Linda |
| 14th November 2007 Rose Marie McG | Windows to the World - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Am enjoying the blog, and the pictures...Travel photos truely are a "window to the world" - pictures with captioned explanations, pictures of places we've been lucky enough to have visited, and pictures of things and places that depict friend's adventures....but catching glimpses of familiar faces brings it to life - as does recognizing names of the authors of comments written to friends & families who are on the trip of a lifetime! Happy Birthday to Dawn W. and a big Hello to the group from Sherwood Park/ Edmonton.....Enjoy your journey.....We are as well!!! R&R McG. |
| 14th November 2007 Laurie O'Brien | Happy Birthday Dawn - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Wow, looks like you guys are having a wonderful time - and not going hungry either... Happy Birthday Dawn, I can imagine this is one you won't soon forget, Love, Dan and Laurie |
| 14th November 2007 Jackie Ross | Hello to my old pal, Noel, and his fellow travellers - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Hi Noel (and Pat): I am thoroughly enjoying your photos and, particularly, Pat's comments which make your friends very jealous of your tropical adventures when the rest of us poor souls in Canada are preparing for Winter. Sorry, Noel, but because neither Ruthie nor I are there to watch your calorie intake, I'm going to have to put Pat in charge of your diet. Definitely not more than 10,000 calories a day and, if you go over that amount, just pack a doggie bag for your "skinny" friend in Parksville. Happy to see that you and your fellow travellers are having such a great time and one of the highlights of my day is checking in our your adventures. Cheers from a very windy and wet Vancouver Island. Jackie |
| 14th November 2007 Diann | pennies from Viet Nam - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Hi Pat - I didn't realize that Viet Nam was on the tour. How fabulous! Your pictures are great - I'd be moving those elephant ear fish further away from me too.... quite interesting food. Me? I like the pool. Slowly recovering from the conference - there's always a lot to do afterwards. I'm having a great vacation just reading and seeing your photos. Keep it coming! Love ya - Diann |
| 14th November 2007 deb birkett | Thank YOU - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ Pat thank you for sharing this trip with those of us left enviously at home. You make it come alive....please say hi to Keith and Jan B for me......and again..thanks for your special "view" of your world....Deb |
| 14th November 2007 Jill Mason | Kowloon - Peninsula Hotel - From: It's a tough life........but we're happy to live this for you! Hi Pat. Hope you got a chance to drop by one of the most posh hotels on earth in Kowloon called the Peninsula Hotel. Bill and I went in to "go to the washroom" and of course check things out. Bill said the washroom attendants did everything but wipe his B--. That's a vivid Kowloon memory for me. Very interested in Viet Nam. When you get home you need to read a novel (Canadian author) and Giller prize winner The Time In Between. No book peaked my interest in this fascinating country more. I'll bet Viet Nam will be a highlight. God Speed, Pat. Enjoying your blog. Jill |
| 14th November 2007 Envious Evelyn | On the water - From: Row, Row, Row your boat........ I am impressed at how well you are dealing with all the water trips this year. Good for you! Your blog is what I look for last thing before I leave the office or first thing in the morning. It looks like you are having a great time and have a wonderful group travelling with you. I'll be sure to tell her. Sounds like you have a great trip planned too. Good for you. We just got back from the Mekong Delta; whew, it was HOT out there today (for me, anyway), and it's time for a dip in the pool, and then .........up to the "Boobie Bar"! Remember that, Gail?????? I'll be updating the blog later as we have a quiet evening here. |

We are on our own "Southern Tour" and have just arrived in New Zealand, the southern island. | 11th November 2007 Happy Pat | On our way to Viet Nam....... - From: It's a tough life........but we're happy to live this for you! Hi Judy, Thanks for your note. Yes, we were very mindful of Remembrance Day yesterday. On this trip, it's not just about the travel and geography, and cultures, etc.......it's also about Remembrance Day, U.S. Thanksgiving (I have a number of people in my Green Group who are from various points around the U.S.), birthdays, anniversaries, etc. And hey, Judy, YOU can tell Jan B. about the clothes you will buy for her upon her return......ha ha! I'm not going "there"........LOL |
| 11th November 2007 Judy T | Remembrance Day - From: It's a tough life........but we're happy to live this for you! | 10th November 2007 Linda (London, ON) | Very interesting! - From: The amazing city of Hong Kong! Good morning Pat, As I write this it is 11:45 am on Saturday morning, yet you are already into the next day. According to the world time site... http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=102... it is 12:45 am and you are likely fast asleep in your princess room. What an amazing trip and you have only just begun! I'm envious. I can two very good reasons for continuing your workouts... the quantity of food/wine and likely the richness thereof, but also I suspect it gives you some "down time" to do something normal, yet give your mind time to absorb and process all of the activities you participate in each day. I do enjoy the pictures very much, although I'm sure from your point of view a 2-D picture can only do so much for the 3-D real thing. Too bad it isn't a surroundsound type sensation with scents/sounds/panoramic visuals. By the way, I don't think taking pictures of cemetaries is obsessive - cemetaries are an important part of any culture. How each culture treats those who have passed on, is interesting in comparison to the next culture. Halifax has one of the oldest cemetaries in Canada, and it is interesting and inspires a sense of awe. Continue your tour in safety and health, Cheers! Linda |

| 28th November 2006 Sue H. | Baby it's cold outside! - From: Our last day in Prague Good morning sunshine! This morning in Spruce Grove, Alberta, it was -30c, and the with the windchill, it felt like -40c. I love the sound of the snow squeaking under the tires. Apparently all the snowplow guys are working for private companies, because the city roads are ridiculous while the mall parking lots are free and clear. Puts everyone in a Christmas mood, that's for sure! Do you see any evidence of Christmas in your travels? I told the kids you'd be in Iceland, and they are pretty excited you'd be within driving distance of Santa's workshop! Enjoy the rest of your incredible journey, but I know all your friends and family will be equally relieved when you're back on Canadian soil. |

| 16th November 2006 Kate | Starwood Hotels in India - From: Our day in Delhi, India I feel very bad about the poor experience in the restaurant! But happy to hear that the accommodation has been satisfactory - Sheraton Sweet Sleepers on all the beds by the sounds of it. keep the blog's coming! |
| 16th November 2006 Grace | Enjoying the blogs, Tina - From: Our day in Delhi, India This is about as close to India as I want to be.Sandy's comment last year was the same as Pat's - "would you go again, NO." Are you keeping a dairy, as it will be hard to remember so much. Understand Lloyd is coming west on the 20th so he will only miss this week-end (opens 18th). We will look after him till you get back. |

The Taj Mahal is ... well, unreal!!My 9 and 6 year old (today is Matthew's 6th B-Day!)find it all quite fascinating. They loved the picture of you on the elephant, and Matthew spotted the picture of you with his "Nonno" instantly at the Taj Mahal. Thank you for your wonderful journal! | 16th November 2006 Lynn and Aiden | - From: Part 2 from India Wow! It does just break your heart to see such poverty. I can't imagine living in a washroom selling toilet paper for a living. It sure makes retail at the Bay sound a whole lot better. We are blessed in more ways than we can count. Thanks for the reminder. Lynn and Aiden |

I show him the pictures, and try to show him on Granpa's world globe, but that's pretty abstract! He just asks if you're in your green car, and what your friends' name are? Anyway, all to say today - WISH WE WERE THERE!! Didn't realize what India was like either! Thanks! |

| 11th November 2006 HappYanski | Viet Nam is not like I though... - From: Welcome to Viet Nam Hi Pat, I still have a "préjugé" that Viet Nam is like destroyed, poor and sad because of the war in the 60's and 70's. There is an article in one of Quebec's actuality magazine that says Viet Nam is waking up and rebuilding since at least 10 years! Thanks for sharing these pictures and memories because it will change my view of this country. Maybe one day i will go too! Have a nice day! |

| 7th November 2006 Elaine Shannon | Japan - From: Our final evening in Japan Hi Pat, I am having such a blast reading of your travels. This travelblog thing is a great idea. Your experience of Japan echos my experience from last year. One thing that stands out that you didn't mention is their use of English on signs. Our group had many a laugh and have several pictures of their interpretation of our language. I certainly concur with you about how helpful and polite the Japanese are. And if Kyoto was anything like Okinawa was for me, you would have found it an incredibly clean city. I'm so pleased you are having a wonderful time. Can't wait to read what you've been up to next! |

| 7th November 2006 Sue | This is what the internet was made for! - From: Our final evening in Japan Good morning/afternoon/evening, Happy Pat! My family and I are following your travels with great interest. When the little ones asked where Japan is, their big brother rolled his eyes (as only a big brother can) and exclaimed, 'It's ONLY on the other side of the WORLD! Canada and Alberta aren't the only places in the world, you know!' This is what the internet was made for - banking and travel blogs! I think this is brilliant! Keep your stories coming. It rained all night - very sloppy on the roads but better than a skating rink! Shine on, you crazy diamond. |
