Himilayan Experience
a trip by Gerry & Ruth
From: April 10th 2015
Until: May 14th 2015
It’s been nearly a year since our South American trip so its about time to get moving again. Sparked by my sister and brother-in-law’s trip to India & Nepal I plan to bypass India but meet up for some trekking in Nepal after a side trip to Tibet.
My trip is planned for approx. 5 weeks from early April to mid May starting with an organised 2 week trip along the Friendship highway from Lhasa in Tibet to Kathmandu in Nepal. I will then catch-up with the Browns for some yet to be selected trekking in and around the foothill of the Himalayas.
The Friendship highway is the Tibet section of the main highway across China and while its only 830 kms directly to the Nepal border it crosses 3 passes over 5000 mtrs (including Everest base camp) before dropping back to 1750 mtrs at the border. The trip has approximately another 300 kms of side trips off the highway. Kathmandu is a further 115 kms over the border.
The main Nepal trek will either be the well-established Annapurna Base Camp trail or the newer less commercialised Manaslu Circuit.
Trip Length: 5 weeks
