Saturday, May 2nd This morning we went to a shopping mall 20mins walk from our hotel. This turned out to be a momentous occasion. Here, at long long last, Ferdi had some KFC (yes, it was all he had hoped it would be and more)! We also found a hair-clipper (it cost less than Ferdi's last haircut!) and bought tickets for the new X-Men film (in English, we checked) later this afternoon. After lunch we read in our room (it was just too hot to be outside) and had a short nap. We went back to the cineplex, got some popcorn and iced-Milo, smuggled in some Smarties we had bought from the supermarket, then sat back (in reclining seats) to enjoyed the movie. Before the movie started though, we had to stand to pay tribute to ... read more

Here's another video showing some of the weird and wonderful critters we saw while diving in Phuket. Ferdi says he'll never need to use Final Cut Pro again. Windows Movie Maker ROCKS!! ;-) If you have trouble seeing the video you can watch it on YouTube by following this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4n0P2Gjim8 Thursday, April 30th We got on our scooter early and headed to Chalong pier. We got on the boat and two hours later we were at our first dive site: King Cruiser. This 85m catamaran-style passenger ferry sank in May 1997 after hitting the anemone reef while en-route to Koh Phi Phi. We went down to 31.1m, our deepest yet. Visibility was low and there was a strong current but it was awesome and a little spooky to swim along and through parts of this ... read more

We added our first little test video to our blog. The editing is awesome (of course ;-) and it features a gorgeous mermaid and her friends. It doesn"t always display properly. We're looking into it. Hope you all can enjoy! Tuesday, April 28th At 7:45 we got on a mini-bus that took us to the docks where we got on a huge catamaran for a day-trip to Koh Phi Phi, two hours away. It was a little crowded. We sat reading on the top deck until we neared the islands. It was hard to get a spot to take pictures cause everyone was crowded around the railings. Without leaving the boat, we briefly saw the beach where they filmed scenes from "The Beach", then moved around the island to a snorkeling spot. Like cattle herded down ... read more

Saturday, April 25th After breakfast Ferdi had to sort out some things on-line so Talita went to the market to walk around and see what's what. Amongst other things she found a KFC! Ferdi's gonna go visit there real soon! While Ferdi was on-line he decided to check on our blog. He saw we had a new comment, which always fills us with excitement. We love hearing from our people! This comment turned out to be a real disappointment though. We had received our first hate-mail because of our beliefs. We were called "ignorant" and "wacko" and were openly mocked. It sucks, but we know that Jesus said we'd be hated because we follow Him. In the end, instead of making us ashamed of our faith (as it was intended to), it made us more bold ... read more

Thursday, April 23rd After a fantastic breakfast we went to wait for our boat to the mainland. Two hours later we ended up at a different pier than the one we expected and from there we got on a bus to Surat Thani. Here we expected to get onto the mini-bus to Phuket but instead we were transferred to a different location were we had to wait for an hour. On the transfer we met two Australian sisters also going to Phuket. At the place we were waiting there was a very mean little Thai man who shunted the girls around for no reason and tried to confuse them in an apparent attempt to rip them off. He left us alone, probably because the girls looked like easier targets for his harassment. We had a terrible ... read more

Tuesday, April 21st The naughty kitty joined us for breakfast again. We thought she wanted our food but it turned out she was just after attention. With a lot of stroking she quieted down and made herself comfortable on our bed (we could get a fine if management found her in our room, but we figured it's their cat so we'll risk it). Our first dive site for the day was Shark Island because everyone hoped to see the Whale Shark again. It was also too windy to dive on the west coast. Our guide for the day was a funny character named Tom (he's almost a blond version of Austin Powers). The dive was fun and we tested our new masks. They work great and we're very happy with them. Unfortunately the Whale Shark didn't ... read more

Sunday, April 19th After dragging our lazy butts out of bed we mounted our scooter and headed north once more, this time in search of "The Whale Skeleton". We took the wrong turn off, drove up some scary roads then walked till we were sure that we got it wrong. We drove some more and found the right turn off. We had to battle up some more scary hills until it got too steep for our little scooter. We abandoned it and walked up, but soon realized that in our attempts not to crash we had missed the place. By this time we were drenched in sweat. Koh Tao might be diving and snorkeling heaven but as far as the temperature goes, it has a striking resemblance to hell (when you're not in the water). Friday, April 17th Early in the morning we packed our things, bid Haad Yao beach a fond farewell, then scooted south to Thong Sala pier. After breakfast Ferdi dropped Talita by the ferry ticket office with our little bags. While she bought our tickets he scooted to go get our big bags from storage. After dropping off the big bags Ferdi had to go back and drop off the scooter. The lady thought we'd changed a panel on the scooter (meaning we'd had an accident), but Ferdi assured her we didn't. Reluctantly she gave back his passport (which she had kept as collateral), then Ferdi ran down the beach to the pier, fearing that the ferry might leave without him. He arrived on time but the ferry was late. Rather safe than sorry. We sat outside ... read more

Wednesday, April 15th After a night of little sleep (Ferdi’s been struggling to sleep lately and Talita got a little freaked by the bed sheet fluttering against her skin because of the fan) we got up early to prep for the dive. Our dive site for the day was Sail Rock, an outcropping of rock halfway between Koh Pha-Ngan and Koh Tao. We were taken to Chaloklum pier on the northern part of the island then sailed for an hour to Sail Rock. On the way we sat on the top deck of the boat and watched the water. We shouted with delight and amazement when we saw our first ever Flying Fish. We could hardly believe our eyes. They look like airplanes with big “wings” up front and little “wings” in the back. As the ... read more

Monday, April 13th We got a scooter and scooted north, accompanied by Rafi, a British guy who stays at the same resort. We went to scout for a place to stay near a few snorkeling spots and he just wanted to tag along to see more of the island. While we were riding, people all along the roads would soak us with buckets of water, super-soakers and hoses. At first we thought that it was to get us to buy super-soakers and join in the fun. Later we were told that today is Thai New Year. Some say they believe the water washes away your sins or bad karma or something while others say that the water is intended to cool you down because it's usually the hottest day of the year. We reached Haad Yao, ... read more
