It's been a while since we last updated, been busy and lazy....Well we arrived in the city of Darwin, and it was hot (for us Canadians that is) Tried our best to get into a hostel but it was a no go, all where booked up becaue of the school holidays in Australia. We managed to get a cheap motel and spent a couple of days there freezing ourselves with the excellent air conditioning... One strange thing in Darwin...when we actually ventured out for breakfast at around 9-10am people where already drinking beer! The first day we waited until 10:30am for breakfast....well it included 4 slices of bacon, 2 huge sausages, 2 eggs, toast and a Pint of beer! all for the low price of $15... I believe the place was called monsoon's... they would be ... read more

So we landed in Cairns at around 9:30am...only a short flight (2 hrs or so) Strangest thing we saw in Cairns was the presence of clouds for the first time in 4 weeks! We spent 3 days doing absolutely nothing there until on monday we went diving/snorkling on the great barrier reef.. WOW what a place to snorkle (Rob says it's amazing to scuba dive) We had 8 hours on the reef with Passions of Paradise, very good tour, well worth the money...the colours on the reef are so amazing and soo many fish... After this we ended up renting a nice Holden Commodore SV6 (reminds me of a Monte Carlo) sweet car, very nice indeed...we then headed out to Cooktown (last place north we could drive too) then we headed to Undara and visited some ... read more

Well after almost 12000km's of traveling in the past 3 weeks we have made it to Darwin...and damn it is hot here....still going to Kakadu National Park in the next couple of days...i seriously think we will be ditching the campervan and moving into a hostel soon...it is just too hot to sleep in the damn thing... Darwin is our first real sign of civilization in the last three weeks, before this Alice Springs was the biggest city we have visited (20k people). Rob tried some type of a Kangaroo salad and he said it wasn't bad and that if he didn't know it was Kangaroo he would have thought it was beef....We finally have internet as well....and only 2.50 an hour!! If anyone is planning on going through NT and WA , get a Telstra ... read more

We have left the big city of Auckland and have moved on towards the northern edge of New Zealand.... We have been staying in a great hostel in the city of Paihia...We traveled up to the northern tip of New Zealand where the Tasman and the Pacific Ocean meet, we saw a bit of 90 Mile beach, we didn't trust our car to drive too far down it (although they do drive buses up and down the beach) Tomorrow we are off for an overnight cruise in the Bay of Island! ... read more
