Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Bay of Islands » Paihia April 8th 2011

I left Sydney on Sunday and arrived back in Auckland at 2am to catch my Magic Bus up to the very north of New Zealand at 7am! Exhausted!! Met some fun girls on the bus from England so once we arrived in Paihia at lunchtime we hit the beach! Topping up the tan before I come home!! Two of the girls were only here for one night so had a few drinks with them and our bus driver before headed to bed! Very long day! The next day Becks and I joined our Cape Reinga tour which is the furthest place in New Zealand, the very top. We stopped off at various places along the way but when we arrived at the top, we planted our own tree!! They cost $20 and give you the location ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Noosa April 6th 2011

We left Fraser Island/Rainbow Beach and are now heading down the coast. Due to lack of time, I am heading down quite quickly! We headed for Noosa which is a small seaside town with a gorgeous beach! arrived around lunchtime so spent the whole afternoon sunbathing which was lovely! The next day we headed on down to Brisbane. Very strange being back in a city again after so long on beaches and small towns - I dont like it!! Spent the afternoon walking around the city and taking photos really! I said my goodbyes to Lucy as she has more time than me and headed on to Surfers Paradise which really is like Blackpool but hotter! Walked around the town for a bit and shopped abit more before heading back to the hostel. Met a lovely ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Rainbow Beach March 24th 2011

We travelled from Airlie Beach via the town of 1770 (which is soooo boring!!) before arriving in Rainbow Beach. Small town (again!) but quite nice to be able to chill out here as the last few weeks have been none stop drinking and partying!! We are staying in Rainbow beach before heading to Fraser Island to do a 3 day tour of self guided 4wd!! So exciting! After spending the next day on the beach before our briefing, we had another early night and got up early for our Fraser tour to behind! The tour is 8 cars, each with approx 7/8/9 people in each. We are Team A (of course!) with 7 people altogether! We headed for the ferry which took 10mins over to Fraser Island. Fraser is the worlds biggest sand island, literally nothing ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach March 24th 2011

After a very very very long bus ride, we arrived in the stunning Airlie Beach! Definitely my favourite place, in fact I would love to live here!! Its a small, funky town right on the beach which is the only way to get to the Whitsundays! We spent the first couple of days sorting some things out like washing etc (the joys of backpacking!) then checked in for our party boat for the next few days! We are heading out on a boat called the Clipper which is a massive party boat! It holds over 200 people but they only take about 50 and you spend 2days, 2 nights sailing around the Whitsundays and snorkelling/lying on a beach - heaven!! Our first day we sailed out for a few hours before stopping in Hook Passage which ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Townsville March 24th 2011

After a few dramas we eventually were able to leave Cairns due to major flooding! We gave up and booked a flight and headed over to Magnetic Island! We took the ferry across which was so bumpy, it was throwing down with rain and generally very miserable! And it didnt change!! Arrived at our hostel to be told most of it wasnt working due to the cyclone and there was no tv room to waste the day from the rain - oh joy!! Luckily, on our second day we decided between 4 of us to hire and car and drive round the island! Which took all of ten minutes because you cant drive round all of it and there is pretty much only one road that you can!! However, the sun came out for some photos ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns » Cairns City March 14th 2011

Finally we arrived in Cairns!! After a heavy last night of drinking with a lot of people, Lucy and I caught our flight from Darwin to Cairns and arrived in the rain!! Cairns is a fun little town with loads of bars and the gate to the Great Barrier Reef! We werent allowed to check in until 2pm having arrived at 9am with bad hangovers so wondered the town for breakfast before heading to Peter Pans to book all of our trips! Diving the great barrier reef tomorrow!! Tuesday: Arrived at our boat about 7.30am and upon welcome we were given muffins and cups of tea! Spent about 1.5hrs sailing out to Green Island which is one of the islands upon the reef Unfortunately, the lady in the shop didnt tell me I need to have ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Northern Territory » Alice Springs March 14th 2011

Not a huge amount to report on really as we left Alice to drive three days to Darwin! The roads are long, they look the same and we spent about 8-9hrs a day driving!! The only highlight really was swimming in a natural water hole where the crocs drink(luckily not while we were there!) but to be honest that was about it!! We arrived in Darwin for one night before a few of us headed off to Kakadu National Park. It was a three day tour arrive various national parks and visiting various waterfalls. Wasnt that impressed to be honest, we werent allowed to do much of the trip due to flooding as its the wet season so seemed a bit pointless running the trip! Also we were camping so spent three days getting very wet!! ... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Adelaide February 14th 2011

Said our goodbyes to Adelaide and to those who were not continuing up to Alice with us and waited for our next bus! After a few dramas (some girls werent booked on with us who should have been!) we left Adelaide and headed towards Quorn. Stopped off along the way at various look out points including salt water lakes before eventually arriving in Quorn in the afternoon. Ben, our new bus driver, cooked us lunch then we headed up to the Flinders Ranges National Park to do our first hike of the week (there were many!). Amazing views and beautiful scenery but so hot so very difficult! Wasnt feeling very well either so found it difficult but the views were just stunning so worth it! Headed back to the hostel where we had dinner, hes a ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne February 10th 2011

After spending a few days in Melbourne, it was time to join another bus to head up to Adelaide. 24 people on this bus so slight difference from the other 5 people but have met some amazing people so worked out well! We left Melbourne and headed to Bells Beach where the international surfing competions are held before we hit the Great Ocean Road!! We stopped off along the way and spotted my first Koala!! woohoo! So cute! Did a walk through the top of a rainforest before arriving at our hostel which was probably the most amazing bed Ive slept in! After dinner we headed to the pub where we got to know eachother more and got a bit drunk!! The next morning we headed to the 12 Apostles to watch the sunrise before stopping ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » St Kilda February 4th 2011

Have said my goodbyes to the brother and am now heading around Australia!! First trip is a three day tour to Melbourne! I was collected by the driver Coaster and we (8 in all!) headed towards Canberra! Here we stayed for the afternoon to do a visit of the Parliament buildings and have some lunch before continuing our long drive towards Threadbo. Unfortunately the weather has turned on us! We left Sydney in 40C heat and arrived in Threadbo in 8C and pouring rain, not fun! I have not missed the UK weather!! We left our hostel early the next morning to go and hike the tallest Mountain in Australia, Mt Kosciuszko but due to the rain still pouring we decided to just take the chairlift to the top. By the time we got there we ... read more
