We have been in Pelenque for a couple of days now. Pelenque is what it is because of the nearby ruins of the same name. We visited them today on Ethans birthday after he had his birthday present (I let him sleep in). Tried unsuccesfully to load pics but seek with google and you shall find, they are stunning. Yesterday we went to the ruins of Yaxchilan and Bonampak very near to Guatemala. Actually to get to Yaxchilan we had a one hour river boat trip the other side of the river being Guatemala. Very hot and humid here (read sweat!) with loud pouring storms every night, last night we got caught in one walking back to the hotel.... read more

We left the scortching heat for the cool air and showers high in the mountains of Chiapas. This town reminds us alot of the highlands of Guatemala because of the cultural and geographic similarities. The food is good and we have even managed a little shopping. Swamped with Italian tourist here though.... read more

We are in Chiapa de Corzo near the Cañón del Sumidero. Last night we took a night bus from the Pochutla near Zipolite to Tuxtla Gutierrez and this morning we visited the zoo. Later from here we took a speed boat up the canyon which was spectacular. No pics loaded but if you google you will see lots of examples. Tonight the town square is full of people enjoying the nice weather, music, cotten candy, mango, popcorn, etc.... read more

Its nice to be back on the road in Latin America enjoying hot hot hot weather (break a sweat watching a dog scratch kind of heat). Even had a little warm rain and thunder here. The day before we flew to Phu Quoc we had fun taking a trip to see the Cu Chi tunnels, our tour guide was the same guy we had on our Mekong river tour to Cambodia. These tunnels near Saigon where started during the resistance to the French and expanded to hundreds of kilometers during the American War. We saw lots of interesting things and got to crawl through some of the tunnels.... read more

A final note from Cambodia. Tomorrow we return to Vietnam. Jasmine had a nice 15th birthday starting with the beach and ending with dinner at "The Snake House". The beach was very crowded (I should have brought a picture to load) do to Chinese NewYear lots of Khmers and lots of trash and the beggers and hawkers in full force. The Snake House is a restaurant with snake cages in the tables and a wide variety of poisonous snakes, fish, birds and a crocodile. Do to the Russian ownership they even had perogies on the menu, a favorite of Jasmine's. We are back in Phnom Penh now, my foot hurts, Trudy Cam and Jas are in the market. Added a couple pics from our highway stop a couple weeks ago where I tried the deep fried ... read more
