We just got back to Peru after a couple nights in Copacabana Bolivia. The border involved getting off our bus, checking out of Peru, walking about 200m into Bolivia and checking in there then get back on our bus. Copacabana is only a few minutes beyond the border. Bolivia is poorer than Peru so the prices for most things we quite a bit less. The day we arrived the boys and I climbed up a local hilltop for a nice view of Copacabana and the lake, also Isla del Sol in the distance. For the way don we went cross country [View Full Entry]

Lake Titicaca South America » Peru » Puno
Yesterday we took a bus from Arequipa over high ground to Puno on the shore of Lake Titicaca. The lake is at 3800m. Trudy is feeling the effects of the altitude, headache. We are drinking coca tea. Today in the morning we went to visit the floating islands and this afternoon to visit the pre incan funeral towers. More details and pictures later ---> ok after many attempts I have managed to get some viewable pictures loaded. The morning trip to the floating islands was a little over the top touristy. The funeral tower ruins were interesting and the setting amazing [View Full Entry]

Yesterday we had another amazing day with Saul and Senor Dennis at Peru Biking Tours www.perubikingtours.com this time we were joined by Cat from Wales. We did not think it could get any better than our trip down from El Misti but it did. By 7:30 we were on the road out of the city of Arequipa and winding our way up to +4400m. Our destination was the Reserva Nacional de Aguada Blanca and the Salinas Salt Lake. The scenery was amazing as we circled around to the back of El Misti beside Montana Pichupichu. At the lake we saw grazing [View Full Entry]

El Misti attempt South America » Peru » Arequipa
On April 29th I made an attempt to reach the top of the El Misti 5825m. We were driven up to where the day before we had started biking at 3200m. From there it was a hike up to the base camp at 4800m along varied terrain, mostly difficult loose gravel/sand but some rock and a bit of hand holding required. The group consisted of a guide, two fellows from France and myself. I felt good all the way and at base camp had a bowl of soup. However within a couple hours at that altitude I had a bad headache [View Full Entry]

Hey first off thanks for all the comments to the blog. I finally figured out that I need to go in and yay or nay them before they go on the web, so if your wondering why your comments were not there until now you know who to blame. Maybe in the future I might even reply! We have had a busy few days since leaving Nasca. The kids were quite excited when they found we had the front four seats above the driver for a birds eye view of all the street action, near misses etc. I wondered about head [View Full Entry]

Nasca Peru South America » Peru » Ica » Nazca
Had a two hour drive to Nasca this morning from Huacachina in a taxi of sorts, an older model american car with a diesel engine. Did a 30 minute flight over the Nasca lines, the air was clear and we had really good views of everything and thanks to Gravol no little baggies full. The worst part was staying awake after with the temperature past 30degC and the Gravol. Later in the afternoon we went to see a pre inca cemetary, more bones! Also checked out a artesinal miners refinery and a traditional pottery place. [View Full Entry]
