Hey everyone! I've been teaching English in Bundang, South Korea since September (2009). I've done quite a bit of traveling, but I've never lived in another country, so this is a very exciting and nervous experience for me. Hi everyone I know it's been awhile since I've last written, but I've had a very busy week, all of which I will be updating to you in painstaking detail. Hello, hello, hello. After an uneventful weekend, I had a pretty good day at work. First off, I finally got my alien registration card, which means that Korea opens up to me a great deal. I'm getting a cell phone tomorrow. I also got a bank account today, which means that I get paid tomorrow, nice! Those are two awesome things that I've been restlessly waiting for. This weekend is Choesok (I think that's how it's spelled). Choesok is best described as Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled into one. In other words, three day weekend! The second cool part about this holiday is all the presents that I've been getting. Last week I got a really nice Polo coat from my co-teacher. Hey everyone! So, on Saturday we all went to a teamwork development picnic about an hour bus ride away from Bundang. It was actually kind of fun. The Koreans, Canadians, Americans were randomly put into three teams, and we competed in a bunch of different activities. I was on team C. The first half was indoor talent type stuff. The first activity was a team cheer, which I was barely able to keep up with because most of it was in Korean. We then had an individual talent thing, which Jessica took care of with my team. Next was a Charades guessing game, and finally a weird arm wrestling competition, but with legs. We then had lunch, and after went out to the field where outdoor competitions took place. Hey everyone! I decided to put up a random update, just stuff off the top of my head. To start things off, I think my milk went bad. On Saturday morning I had a bowl of cereal, and I didn't feel right the rest of the weekend. Normally you can tell if milk is bad, because it stinks. The milk, along with everything else here, is a little sweet, so I think that the sweet smell may have covered up the horrible bad milk smell. In other words, I wasn't feeling too wonderful for the weekend. I spent most of Saturday in my apartment relaxing, and I started Sunday off the same way. I was hoping to have a driver pick me up from the airport, but since there was so much of a mishap with the weather and what not I wasn’t shocked that there wasn’t anyone. Almost instantly there was a guy on me that spoke very little English and really wanted me to ride in his taxi for a bit more than locals pay. Normally I would have put up more resistance, but I was tired of lugging around my luggage, and I wanted nothing more than to finally settle in and take a nap. I said fine, I’ll pay the astronomical price and at least I’ll be there. It was about an hour drive, and he was going really fast. I realize that I haven't been writing as much as I want to, and I haven't put pics up. My only excuse is that I've been super busy. Between learning the new job and exploring this massive city I've been constantly busy. I think that this weekend should slow down a bit. I also want to apologize about not responding to the comments you guys have been leaving. I have been reading and really enjoying them, but I find myself getting online right before school or bed, so I'm either rushing myself or really tired from walking around all day. I finally made it to the apartment! The location is amazing, one minute walk from the school; one minute walk to the subway station; places to eat and drink everywhere, but, as you guys know, it was very difficult getting here. My crazy itinerary had me going from Milwaukee to Minneapolis to Tokyo (Narita) to Seoul (Incheon) with, at max, a two hour layover between any of those cities. When I reached Minneapolis and found out that a Typhoon was rocking Tokyo and my plane was delayed three hours I knew that this was going to be a struggle. The flight was fine. Hey guys, This'll be a quick one. There was a typhoon that hit Tokyo and shut down the airport for awhile. I missed my connection to Seoul in Narita airport. I had to go through immigration, sit on a phone for about an hour to get my flight rebooked, and bused off to a hotel for the night. I met a another english teacher named Vanessa who has been nice company throughout this. I love Japan so I don't mind the delay, however, I'm a little worried that I may not have a ride to Bundang from the airport. If that's the case, I'm sure I'll manage fine.
