After a flying visit to London and Edinburgh (Jane and Guys wedding was fantastic) I flew off to New Zealand...the flight is SO long, however I did have a surprise when I got upgraded to business class (if only for the two hour flight from Sydney to Auckland) - good to see how the other half lives! Of course my little nieces, sis and brother-in-law were awaiting my arrival as I came through customs with my bags full of chocolate and sweets!! Then it was straight off down to Taupo. Think I managed to stay awake for about an hour before I was asleep on Tamsin. Umm...the motel was ok and I bagged one of the double beds and heading straight for sleep - completely exhausted only to wake up with Tamsin snuggled into me, virtually ... read more
Ok, ok...I know it is not summer now...but I have been really bad at keeping this blog updated. So I am thinking why not be lazy and just do more photos. I mean, lets be honest I bet that is all you all REALLY look at. I am sorry not to be in Morzine for the autumn though as the colours of the trees are meant to be out of this world. During the summer I was so lucky to have a flurry of visitors over three weeks and they experienced the unpredictable weather of the French Alps. It was great to have everyone out here and meant I could get out there and really appreciate what I have on my doorstep. Each year there is a firework display up at Lake Montriond, so ladden with ... read more
Photo edition Europe » France » Rh ne Alpes » Haute Savoie » Morzine By Cutler July 24th 2007 This blog is mostly about photos and the ones I have been enjoying taking around Morzine since I have been back for the summer. So sorry for not a lot of writing but think the photos explain a lot of what I have been up to including watching an amazing firework display for Bastile day, going to the Aix les Bains festival (had to camp out in a van for the night) where Keane and Artic Monkeys were playing, watching many biking events, enjoying the Harley Dav... read more
So I was invited on a three day trek from Morzine across to Chamonix on a route, apparently very well known - the GR5. I didn’t really think too much about what it involved what to take or even how fit I would need to be. After asking Sam about what I needed to take I was given a list of things - easy I thought and thank goodness for Sam as I would not have taken the most useful item - walking poles! I met up with the other seven girls early on the Tuesday morning thinking they all looked very organised, right gear etc and panicked a little at what I had forgotten as my rucksack was a little smaller than theirs. But we marched on, together with (forgot to mention) six dogs! ... read more
Where do I start as it seems I have not updated this blog for quite sometime....actually about three months. Some have accused me it must be because there is a man on the scene...sorry to disappoint but actually it is just because I have been lazy. I completed my winter season feeling fit, shattered and in need of a break. After celebrating my birthday by doing a paraglide then came the week when Chalet Le Beziere (the chalet I worked and live in) was taken over by Meg and gang - oh my goodness what I week we had. It didn’t stop snowing and we didn’t stop partying ending up with a sofa in bits (courtesy of Jim we think) and me emotionally and physically drained from keeping up with everyone. It was so great ... read more
After much complaint I have finally got round to updating my blog...sorry guys but life is pretty hectic out here....but I am absolutely LOVIN THE LIFE out here. The season is probably the worst season for snow they have had for 15 years but we have still managed to find snow for me to guide on. I have had some awesome days skiing, although am convinced my skiing has not improved. Darren (my boss) keeps telling my I am the master of the mountains but I am not quite so sure. I think the worst conditions we had was when I had to take three boarders up on their first day...we walked out of the top of the bubble and it looked like a lake as it had rained so much. Then there were hardly any ... read more
Can you believe it has been a month since I drove over (with the assistance of Meg) to Morzine. It was with Meg's rules we drove - basically ignore them all, jump the queues but make sure you are on the right side of the road....then fall asleep if it is not your turn to drive!! We arrived in the resort to it snowing. Later I was to realise this was the first snow of the season and had to last three weeks until the next, which arrived thankfully last week. Managed to get Meg out on the slopes the day later as one lift was open. Good to find some ski legs although not sure driving my car with no snow tyres up the mountain was the best of ideas. The plan was for me ... read more
After returning for a couple of days to Bangkok I made my journey back home to a very cold England. I am now sitting here with bags around me ready to load into my car for my next adventure - ski guide here I come. I feel nervous, yet excited - this was one of my dreams (as well as to own a coffee shop!). I wanted to do something I loved doing and was good at...and yes, I am good at skiing. Although those who know me well will know that I tell everyone who I think are never going to see me ski that I am shit hot, whilst those who are coming skiing with me I modestly say that I am ok. Well after I season I am hoping I will be shit ... read more
Sua S'Dei from Cambodia. Oh yes we are learning the language much to the amusement of the locals. Now I thought Bangkok was hot - this is burny burny hot and I have not stopped sweating since I arrived (pleasant I know!) - thank goodness for air conditioning. Met Nikki and Debs at Bangkok airport at some ungodly hour so was not that communicative. Hilarious as none of us had a clue where and what we were doing but...we had a guide book and an email from one of Debs friend recommending where to stay - what else would we need. Nik had the first aid kit, we had our malaria tablets and photos for visa!! Arriving in Siem Reap - could it really be any hotter than Bangkok - oh yes, unbearable and this was ... read more
