Morzine in need of snow
Taken from the top of Nyon After much complaint I have finally got round to updating my blog...sorry guys but life is pretty hectic out here....but I am absolutely LOVIN THE LIFE out here. The season is probably the worst season for snow they have had for 15 years but we have still managed to find snow for me to guide on. I have had some awesome days skiing, although am convinced my skiing has not improved. Darren (my boss) keeps telling my I am the master of the mountains but I am not quite so sure. I think the worst conditions we had was when I had to take three boarders up on their first day...we walked out of the top of the bubble and it looked like a lake as it had rained so much. Then there were hardly any lifts open. I was praying the higher we went it would turn into snow, but alas no...so we sought refuge in a restaurant. The best have been skiing the day after the snow has arrived and the sun is out...then I look around myself and think...I am working!! It is absolutely fantastic.
The job is going really well. I have completely settled into it
and doing more of the meeting/greeting of guests meaning the Darren can take a step back. That part I do like but Saturdays can be really manic - starting really early then after two transfers to Geneva I still have to go and meet the guys staying in our self catered places. The skiing and running around is keeping me fit and I am eating (and drinking!) quite a lot. The only reason I know I am fitter is when my guests complain of thigh burn and I am ok!! I tend to be out on the mountains with guests about four days out of the six I work. I really cant believe it is only another five weeks until the end of the season. Even though I have got to know a lot of people out here I have been told you get to know a lot of people over the summer when it tends to be a lot more chilled and lots of BBQs!! And you all know me...I say hi to anyone.
Lot of people have been out to see me during the recent months and I have tried to get out skiing with them. The
The photographer!!
Taken by one of my guests... best day was with James and gang - for those of you who dont know I learnt to ski with James and family some 20 years ago...he has since turned to boarding but I could still ski the pants off him. I now eagerly await arrival of Mogule Meg herself plus friends. Jez you will be missed this year but fatherhood has rightly taken priority...
Photography has really kicked off. I am in a prime position to take photos of guests whilst I am guiding them, then I do a slide show at the end of the week of the photos and sell CDs. I have had lots of feedback when people have got home and printed them off. Going forward I would like to print them myself but I really dont have time at the moment. I am also pulling together a portfolio of pictures of Morzine and looking to sell them to small companies for inclusion on their websites. Quite a few of my contacts have also asked me to take pictures of their chalets. After taking photos of bosses son and printing off I have now being asked to take photo of friends child and get
paid (a suggestion Kate gave me after I took ones of her four - thanks Kate!!). I have got lots of ideas want to develop over the summer so watch this space. One of my close friends out here is an artist and has an exhibition in Battersea in May, she is painting some of my photos I took whilst in Cambodia and for a birthday present has framed some of the prints for me - they are amazing...she is a very talented young lady. Like I say lots of ideas...just need time to develop them.
My birthday came and went (unfortunately it was a Saturday) but everyone was so lovely and thanks to everyone for their birthday messages - I had a massage voucher, engraved hipflask, flowers, beauty products...and a paraglide. Oh yes, as a surprise James (the chef at my chalet) and myself were sent up the mountain to run and jump off. It was superb and I had fantastic views of Morzine...I am soon to put up the photos so will include those at a later date. I even got spotted by some of my friends so the guy I was attached to went close to
their chalet - lots of screaming and waving!!
I have lots of people asking me what I am planning to do next. Well....as I love it here so much I have decided to stay for another year. Am looking for a place to rent for the year and have my feelers out on that one. Jobwise...am on the case as well. Have had an invite back for same job as now for the winter but am thinking on that one. Apparently it is easy enough to pick up summer work (but again I may have something in the pipeline). All in all not worried at all about that as am confident will get something to see me through.
Mum and Dad are out to visit end of April which will be great. Then plan to drive back to the UK early May for three weeks, leaving soon after Julies (sister) 40th!! Lots to sort out at home in that time (including selling my car and renting house out). Then flexible plans but will be again in the UK for end of June so I can catch up with the Simpson family who are back on holiday from New
Going treking
Finding the off piste and making fresh tracks Zealand. It will be back to Morzine for the summer season. I have been told interseasons are very quiet....
So you know where I am if you want to come for a holiday. Lots to do in the summer as well - it would be great to see you.
