Where do I start as it seems I have not updated this blog for quite sometime....actually about three months. Some have accused me it must be because there is a man on the scene...sorry to disappoint but actually it is just because I have been lazy.
I completed my winter season feeling fit, shattered and in need of a break. After celebrating my birthday by doing a paraglide then came the week when Chalet Le Beziere (the chalet I worked and live in) was taken over by Meg and gang - oh my goodness what I week we had. It didn’t stop snowing and we didn’t stop partying ending up with a sofa in bits (courtesy of Jim we think) and me emotionally and physically drained from keeping up with everyone. It was so great having everyone out here. We are still looking forward to seeing the video...George??
Then the summer weather came and for all of April Morzine felt like summer - the weather was just amazing and luckily the snow stayed for us to enjoy. I must admit when the final guests left mid April all we could think about was collapsing - my body just
Yvoire
The parents, meals out and icecream! needed a rest from all the skiing....but we needed to clear up the chalets and clean everything - my job was to clean/polish the two vans inside and out - umm...lovely! Then - off to Rome...oh yes, our end of season bonus was two nights..what a treat we had. It was lovely - we chilled out, did some shopping (sexy underwear bought by all...), drank wine, did some sightseeing and general relaxing.
Then the folks came to stay for a week - more entertaining to be done and they arrived in good time to help me move....which obviously they were thrilled about. Actually it was great as they helped me settle into my new apartment. I have got somewhere for a year which is an ideal location - I can hear the river running outside and the sun streams in through the windows making it bright and breezy...and I have bunk beds! Most importantly though it is only about 2 minute walk from the nearest bar!!
Now apparently the summer is about BBQs so as the weather in April was like summer we had a couple of them before the end of the season - “this is what
My new pad
...just the ground floor... summer is going to be like” everyone keeps saying….am looking forward to them as this place, in full bloom is going to look lovely.
James and Kate had arranged a group of 30 of us to go paintballing - all in aid of Darren's birthday but actually it was just so we could all shoot him....and blimey it hurt...Darren got me back by getting me in the arse (ok, not hard to miss I can hear you all say) - I couldnt defend myself as I had run out of bullets.
Then for the last weekend Fi arrived, looking a little exhausted but it was great to see her after far too long. By this time a lot of the places had closed but we enjoyed a walk up to the mountains, lots of shopping and a few drinks along the way…and of course the drive back home….
Now I got a lot of stick about the drive home…it was a long drive - we set off at 8.30 and finally arrived back to Fiona’s flat at 10.30 at night. Anyone would think we would share the driving being such a long way but I chose to
do it all and Fi has never quite forgiven me and tells everyone about my little accident too…only bumped the front a little (low wall and all that) whilst reversing out of a car park. But, the company was great, and scenery stunning as we took a diversion....and we both love Dirty Dancy (Fi was even singing out loud - following the words on the CD!!!???)
Back home for a month comprised of catching up with friends and family, a weekend in my favourite holiday destination (the beach house), meeting some new arrivals and babysitting (!), clearing out my garden (with a little help from a friend), renting out my house (many trips to the tip), bbqs (thanks!) and much much more. Then there was my sister’s 40th which was lovely involving a lot of children and lots of catching up with people I had not seen for a while…a great day done to perfection (nothing new hey Juls!)
Coming back to Morzine has been both exciting and a little nerve racking. I decided to drive back on my own and split the journey. Saying my final farewell to Fi at Ashford I was on the ferry and
in France in no time at all. Stopping off at a b&b south of Reims proved easy and a good break then driving into the resort I was stuck by how much work on the roads was being down and building…I suppose as soon as the winter is over they get back on to it.
Since returning (it has only been a couple of weeks) I have started work with Sharon and Craig, set up home with my hanging baskets, making new friends and going to dinner, have bought a bike so lots of cycling (oh…don’t know if you know Juls, but I have your cycle helmet!?!), running along the river (although unfit as spending a week back in the UK I eat, drank too much and little exercise!) and embracing the relaxed lifestyle out here. The lifts have now reopened for the mountain bikers and walkers and the swimming pools opened this weekend.
Next week seven of us are doing a walk from Morzine to Chamonix.
So, keep in touch, let me know if you want to come and stay...and get spreading the word about my new company - Freedom Ski!!
