Would you believe it after yesterday and promises by the weather people on tv that there is another storm on the way we woke up to clear skies and no rain - yipeeee!! Got up, dressed and ready for some sightseeing. Feeling a little peckish and as it was 11.30 I decided that it is never too early for a bit of cake so made Woody's dreams come true by suggesting that we go to the Cheesecake Factory restaurant on top of Macy's!! There was a special lift that took us up there and as it was beautiful and warm we sat outside - can you believe it! I had the Snickers (Mararthon Bar to you oldies) and Woody had the cherry cheesecake - Oh my goodnesss they were as wicked as they sounded! After this ... read more

A new day in a new and exciting city and it's chuffin pouring with rain. Time passes as we look out the window trying to figure out the best action plan as today is the day we visit 'The Rock'. At about 2 we decide to bave it and venture out to make our way to Fishermans Wharf. Both armed with umberellas we hit the soaked streets and jump on one of San Franciscos famous cable cars. Packed with soggy tourists and leaking, this is not the most pleasent mode of transport but an experience. The journey takes about 15 minutes and drops us off in the heart of the wharf. On a normal day this is quite a good place and packed but not today. It is now hammering down and we decide to walk ... read more

So today is our last day Down Under!!! I am currently sitting in an internet cafe writing this. We are still in Whangamata and are about to leave in a bit to make our way back to Auckland to catch the plane to San Fran. We had a late check out this morning and again made the most of it and after showers and some expert packing we checked out. Breakfast in a local deli which was very naughty but very nice!!!! We are both very sad about leaving the Southern Hemisphere and have had an amazing time - we thought that we would only come once but we are so full of ...'what we will do next time' I can not see this being a 'ONCE in a lifetime trip!!!' We really have done everything ... read more

There is not much I can say about today - as we had a lie in we made the most of it and when we finally got up we took a stroll into the town and picke up croissants and oj for brekkie and visited the butcher and grocer for our tea that evening. After going back to the room we had breakfast on the terrace and then made our way to the beach to catch some cloud rays!!!! It was very warm and the sun was desperately trying to peek through so we thought that we would make the most of our day off. After walking down the beach we came to a great little bit of sand and set up camp. Across from the beach there were two islands that you can walk to ... read more

After the rain of yesterday we woke up a little despondant as it was still chucking it down!!!! Eau de egg was still hanging in the air but we had had a good nights sleep and were not going to let the weather get us down!!! We has decided that we were going to go to Te Pui first which is in Rotarua and is all about Mauri Culture. As we pulled up it seemed very touristy and the rain was really lashing down - we made it to the gate but we didn't go in and turned back to the warmth and dry of the car - we decided that today was not the day to be walking round in the yukky weather taking in culture!!! We drove to the next stop which was called ... read more

Up at the crack of dawn again due to the paper thin walls at the back packers lodge and builing up courage to head into the communal showers !! We head on from Lake Taupo on our way to Rotorua. Our first stop is Hukka Falls, just out of town. Quite pretty but as it's raining we don't stay long get back into the car and onwards and upwards. A brown sign states "Craters Of The Moon" which sounds intriguing so we head on up. This is the first bit of geothermal activity we have seen in this area. Again, quite impressive but no gushing geysers, just lots of holes in the ground with smoke coming out of it. Again, the rain starts so we quickly walk round and get back in the car and make ... read more

Not too much of an early start today......up at 9am for breakfast - superbly presented by Kathy and Allen - and then a bit of blogging and map sorting, and then off. First visit was Waitomo Caves which are famous for ....... being caves !!!!! But ..... there are loads of thing to do here plus glow worms (or magots with radioactive s**t or so we were told). Anyhow, we arrived a liitle bit unsure as to what to do - do we do the full on action tour or the more sedentry tour. As we're getting old (especially me) we thought th emore gently one, but then thought "Oh, sod it" and decided on the full on, get wet, break your leg, black water raft one (which was departing in 10 minutes). We rushed on ... read more

We were so rock and roll this morning you would hav thought that we would have been up at the crack of dawn donning our walking shoes and sightseeing to the max - but no the morning was spent watching the washing go round and round and round. We had to do it, I had run our of knickers and Woody had no shorts left so it was crucial!!!! This took us ages as one of the machines was broken and it took forever to dry - once done though it dos give you a sense of relief -which is really sad but if you have been away for any length of time you will know what I mean! Once smelling fresh as daisys we were back in the car for the trip to Cambridge. Our ... read more

Up and packed by 8.26 - checked in by 9 and on the plane by 11.30. We thought this was a long flight to NZ but the captain said it would be 2 hrs 55 mins and that the weather in Auckland was better than Sydney.... this was good news as it was raining and grey as we took off! Landed in Auckland at about 5 with the time difference and once we had been through the longest immigration EVER - passport check, questions about why we were only there 6 days, then baggage collect, through another check where we we were asked if we had any food, medicine or had been hiking in the rainforest etc and then finally all our luggagae had to go through another x ray machine!!! Very differnent to the Uk!! ... read more

Alarm off at 6am - still bleary eyed... watched it - pictures - lovely - back to sleep.... Alarm off again at 9am to pack and check out. Woody as always feeling fine as he never gets a hangover and me feeling dodgy as anything. Battled through the packing though. Turned on the phone for baby news but non yet but a message from work telling me I had got the job I went for an interview for before we left!!! Great news but a bit overshadowed by hang over from hell!!! Up to the Dune House for breakfast and I managed a bit ... James came and joined us after his early morning walk that he made and would you believe it had seen wild camels!!!! Julie hadn't made it though so we said our ... read more
