First night in Bolivia
First night in Bolivia
Although I was beaten to the best spot for photos (as we were enjoying a nice beer!), it was still an amazing sunset over Copacabana bay to welcome us to Bolivia
It's been a while since we wrote... but here's from leaving Arequipa at the start of January and going into Bolivia. Copacabana We stopped off for a few days in Copacabana. It's a lovely little town on the lake and the closest thing to a beach town that there is in Bolivia (although it's best not to mention that as it's a sensitive subject). We went to the famous Isla del Sol which was of course beautiful and we spent a good day and a bit hiking across it and visiting various sites of interest like an old Inca palace and [View Full Entry]

We´re just a few days short of finishing our time in here in Arequipa, and so thought we´d better share some photos with you and do an update. The bulk of our time has been working with the children from a particular town where opportunities are few, and they are mainly left to their own devices as their parents have to work virtually all the time. Within moments of arriving we were whisked off with the children to Salinas, a mountain village complete with salt-plains, where this organisation has also been doing some work with children, for a weekend of cultural [View Full Entry]

At first we didn't really take to Cusco. We were still ill from the coach jouney there, which was combined with a hefty dose of altitude sickness on arrival. Attempting to combat this by breathing in more oxygen failed due to the thick pollution from the cars. Attempts to distract ourselves by 'getting some culture' and meeting the locals failed as it is Gringo-central, and as a result the locals aren't very friendly. They approach you with a smile (in traditional dress, complete with baby in back sling, baby lamb in front sling, and leading a llama) only to insist you [View Full Entry]

We've been away over a week now, although it feels like longer for some reason. After the first blog we spent a few days seeing the rest of Lima, and had a bit of an epic coach journey to Cusco, which I´ll come to later! On the Saturday morning we went into town (after we managed to get away from Angelo, the hostel owner who cannot stop talking!) We arrived in perfect time to join the crowd that was filling the main square for the arrival of the Lord of the Miracles parade. We were near the front of the crowd, [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone! We´ve been here two days and it feels like home already. Before we left for the town yesterday we spent hours hiding money in socks and thinking of complicated defence ploys, but by the time we´d been side-tracked by our very talkative but gem-filled hostel owner, Angelo, we forgot to be nervous and felt totally Peruvian with our first step outdoors. It´s a cool springtime here which works well because the English summer hasn´t prepared us for marching in the sun. Angelo knows everything about everything and was telling us about the 5000 potato varieties (he rec [View Full Entry]
