In Jeri we ended up having a few days of sitting on the beach and nights of partying. Almost all ´cocktails'are made simply by adding a load of sugar to fruit and STRONG spirits, all over ice, and I´m sure one thing that we won´t forget is how to make a caiparinha, made using a sugar cane spirit (cachaça), sugar and lime, taught us by two Brazilian guys on holiday from Sao Paulo. This is the standard recipe yet can be made with many different fruits, including passion fruit (mixed with lime is fantastic) and the fruit of the cashew. Before [View Full Entry]

We left Barreirinhas on a 4by4 and headed through the dunes to the small town of Paulina Neves from where we jumped on another one to Tutoia. The journey was very rough and scenic and much more fun than doubling back on ourselves on a boring bus! From there we hopped on a bus to the town of Parnaba. We had been unsure of whether to stay a night but decided we would rather move on to our next spot, Piripiri. So after the 3 hour bus ride we finally arrived at about 9.30 that night and went to the first [View Full Entry]

After a lot of thinking in Belem we changed our plan slightly and headed for Sao Luis on a night bus after visiting another zoo type place in the middle of the city and milling about the markets. We arrived in Sao Luis at about 6.30 a.m. and hunted for a cheap hostel only to return to the first one we had been to after an hour and a half! It was a fairly attractive place (in comparison to the bigger cities) and had some pretty impressive beaches just a bus ride away that we visited. We didn´t hang around for [View Full Entry]

After a night in a bed (at long last) in Manaus we headed for the docks early to find ourselves a boat to Santarem. We found one that was already quite packed but slung our hammocks on the upper decks and waited to set off. little did we know that about a million other hammocks were yet to be slung! It was a very cosy journey to say the least, but quite an experience . Fortunately just before we set sail we bought some fruit and cheese sandwiches to keep us going and had plenty of books. The sunsets on the [View Full Entry]

Sorry about the delay on updating the blog, its been really hard to find the internet in Venezuela, let alone good internet. On leaving Montezuma after a wonderful Xmas spent on the beach fishing we headed to the town of Alajuela which is in fact closer to San Jose Airport, both glad that we didnt have to venture into the dangerous capital. Before our flight we filled up on free samples of chocolate covered coffee beans, pineapple, passion fruit, guava, cashews, cacao nibs etc... and coffee, just incase we didnt get fed while in the air, we did. On landing in [View Full Entry]

Since we last wrote we have left Nicaragua and got to our Xmas destination! We had a few nice relaxed days in Granada (apart from being followed round a park by a crazy man offering us to have xmas with his family) beforre heading south and across to the island of Ometepe, which consists of the 2 volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas. It was an interesting trip over on a small boat that was literally overflowing with locals and tourists. On arrival we were convinced to get a taxi to the spot we wanted to stay at, Merida, as the bus takes [View Full Entry]

We set off early from Copan and we very excited to be heading to the coast for some bright sunshine. It was a fairly long moring but finally got to Tela (which neither of us thought much of) to then get a bus to one of the Garifuna villages, La Ensenada. We checked into a nice little hotel that had remarkably smelly water to the point whgere we both refused to wash. It was a really nice little place and we found a beachside bar come restaurant come home where a couple cooked us one of the biggest meals ever consisting [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone, First of all massive apologies for not writing anything in ages, between bad computers and major lack of places with internet recently we have struggled. Anyway, we left Chichi on the Friday morning and headed for Antigua, where we found a really cool little hostel called Posada Ruiz 2 that had a lot of dogs and hippies that looked like they'd been there since the beginning of time. Having not really made any plans, we thought we would check out potential tours to the vocanoes and managed to get one leaving the following morning at 6 to visit Volcan [View Full Entry]

Leaving Los Naranjos at 6 in the morning we managed to get to Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, by about 11, although we were expecting only a couple of hours journey. From there we literally jumped on a moving bus that would take us to Choluteca, from where we took a minibus to the Honduran side of the border. We were dropped off by the minibus and very swiftly picked up by a fat man on a trike, with space for the bags, who peddled us, rather half heartedly in my opinion, to the border formalities and part of the way to [View Full Entry]

Without hanging around in San Pedro Sula for too long we headed to Lago de Yojoa, a beautiful lake nestled in West Central Honduras, more specifically to the small village of Los Naranjos. The day didn´t start too great when getting off the bus at our destination we managed to leave the garlic baguette that we had just bought from a bakery before leaving San Pedro. We soon found our way to the hostal which was also a micro-brewery brewing traditional ales as well as more elabourate flavours including apricot and chocolate raspberry. We set up our tent and headed off [View Full Entry]
