Yesterday we began the day with free time (shopping) in the Old City of Jerusalem. At noon, we got on the bus and drove to a spot in Jerusalem for a magnificent panoramic view. We then headed to the Garden Tomb for a tour & an inspirational service. Then back on the bus to the ancient City of Joppa. After dinner at a local restaurant in Tel Aviv, we headed to the airport for our flight home. Below is a link to a short video of Rueben on our final day in Israel. Enjoy. Yesterday we drove east from Jerusalem into the Wilderness of Judah. We drove along the Dead Sea to the fortress of Masada. We then visited the ancient city of Qumran and viewed the ruins of the Essene community that produced the Dead Sea Scrolls and even saw one of the caves where some scrolls were found. On the way back to Jerusalem, we stopped at Ein Gedi for a swim in the Dead Sea. BTW, I want to thank my sweet wife Kay for the pictures & information for this report. Yesterday we again began our tour at the Old City of Jerusalem. We started at St. Stephen’s Gate and then on to the Pool of Bethesda, St. Anne’s Church, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. We then made the short trip to the little town of Bethlehem. More tomorrow!... read more

Yesterday we began our tour of the Old City of Jerusalem. We began at the top of the Mount of Olives for an overview and introduction to the city. We then proceeded down the slopes to the Garden of Gethsemane. After a brief service in an olive grove, we headed to the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) and then a trip through the Western Wall tunnel. We then paid a visit to Mount Zion to see the traditional spot of King David’s Tomb and the Room of the Last Supper. We finished the day at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. More tomorrow!... read more

Yesterday we drove from Tiberius through the Galilee region, passing the city of Cana, to the hometown of Jesus, Nazareth. We then drove through the Jezreel Valley to the massive tell of Megiddo (Armageddon). After a visit to the ruins of this important city, we stopped at Beth Shan on the way to the Jordan River Valley. Yesterday we spent the day in the vicinity of the Sea of Galilee region. We began the morning with a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. From there, we headed to Capernaum to see ruins of a synagogue that dates from three to four centuries after Jesus and ruins believed to be the house of Simon Peter. We then headed to Caesarea Philippi. We finished out the day at Mt. Arbel which lies along the famous Via Maris, the ancient “Highway 1” that connected Egypt and Mesopotamia. Yesterday we left Tel Aviv and headed for Caesarea by the sea. We are riding in the red bus & our guide is Rueben. Our first stop was at the Theater at Caesarea, Herod’s Palace and Herod’s Arena (or hippodrome.) We then headed to Sepphoris to see the ruins of a Roman house from the 1st century A.D. that contained some beautiful mosaics that had been restored. We continued our bus trip to look at the “Jesus boat”, a 2000 year old fishing boat that was found in the 1980’s and has been meticulously restored and preserved. More tomorrow!... read more

Yesterday we landed at the airport in Tel Aviv. A very long plane ride but we were excited as we checked into our hotel, the Renaissance Tel Aviv Hotel. After check in, we headed to the restaurant downstairs for our first non-airplane meal in 24 hours. Trey prayed over the meal & Mike gave us a preview of our first tour stops tomorrow!... read more

We left home yesterday and headed for the airport for a trip we have wanted to take for years, ISRAEL. We boarded United Airlines headed to Israel via Newark, NJ. Over 14 hours of flight time total & 6000 miles from New Jersey to Israel. But we’re off to a great start. Mike Fanning & Trey Little are leading a group of 80+ people from our church in San Antonio (First Presbyterian) on an exciting tour of the Holy Land. More tomorrow!... read more
