Yesterday, our final day in Argentina, we had beautiful weather. Trey had told Kay about a great place to shop for leather goods so that’s where we started. Anna Maria had a wonderful shop with almost anything you could ever want made out of leather. I bought a nice belt & Kay got a purse. We were then on our way to have lunch at a place that Trey & Andrew had yet to try, Elmuelle Restaurante. Wow what a place! It was on the water across the street from the old BA airport in what looked like an old castle. It was a treat as an old fried of Trey’s from Chile, José Ignacio Iturriaga, was in town for a few days & joined us for lunch. After lunch, we headed back to finish packing ... read more

Yesterday was another rainy & cold day in Buenos Aires. We started the day having breakfast with Sara. Sara owns the little café on the first floor of the building that Trey & Andrew live in & we ate breakfast their most days. We then headed back to our room to start organizing our “stuff” to get ready to leave. We had lunch at Bar El Federal. Kay ordered the “Super” hamburger. I ordered the “Super” hotdog. Believe it or not, they really were super. This was the first time Kay & I went someplace on our own & ordered without the help of our interpreter as we felt like he needed a break from Mom & Dad. We finished out the day with a delightful evening with Trey & Andrew at another interesting little place ... read more

Yesterday was a very long day. We found out that our flight back to Buenos Aires had been delayed that morning so we delayed checking out of the hotel. Hector got us to the airport & we said our goodbyes. He gave us wonderful service while we were in Iguazu so we gave him a nice tip. After standing in line for 2 hours at the airport, we were told that our flight was overbooked due to the recent strike & we were bumped. Trey had a lengthy discussion with the clerk in Spanish & we were assured that we would be on the next flight in 2 more hours (what are the odds?). We ate lunch & killed some more time then finally boarded the plane for our return flight. We had an interesting taxi ... read more

Yesterday, Hector picked us up & we headed for San Ignacio to see one of the Missions, San Ignacio Mini. On the way, we took a side trip to a mine in Wanda that Hector told us about called Mine of Wanda - Tierra Colorado. The mine had geodes with quartz, amethyst, agate deposits & more. We had a cute little tour guide that spoke decent English. After a tour through the mine & gift shop, we were on our way. The Mission San Ignacio Mini was a huge ruins that surprisingly dwarfs our missions in San Antonio. We took some pictures & I have included a link to their website: www.misiones-jesuiticas.com.ar More tomorrow! ... read more

Yesterday after a buffet breakfast at the hotel, Hector picked us up & drove us back to Iguazu National Park for Day 2. It rained steadily all morning but we had packed some rain gear so we were in good shape. Having seen the falls from above, today we went below & looked up. What a magnificent sight. We then ate a buffet lunch in the park (It sounds like all we are doing is eating!) & headed back to the hotel to shower & dry out. More tomorrow! ... read more

Yesterday we took a taxi out to the airport, headed for Iguazu, Argentina. After a short flight, we were picked up at the airport by our soon to be new best friend, taxi driver Hector. On the way to our lodging, Hector offered to be our driver while in Iguazu for the fee of $450. A discussion followed with our official tour guide, Senor Trey, & we accepted Hector’s offer. After our arrival & check-in at the Esturion Hotel & Lodge - Iguazu, we made plans for the afternoon. www.hotelesturion.com Trey contacted Hector & set him up to take us all out to Iguazu National Park that afternoon. You may not be familiar with this place but it was the backdrop for the Robert De Niro’s 1986 movie, The Mission. This place has the most incredible ... read more

Yesterday we decided it would be a good day for a change. Andrew & Trey were having guests for dinner so Andrew needed the day to shop & prepare the meal. I was worn out & needed a day to catch my breath. Trey & Kay were ready to go so they took the train(s) to Tigre & San Isidro. Both are wealthier areas in Buenos Aires & worth a look. So since we all pretty much went different ways, I have a short report for today. We all met up for dinner with new friends, Rod & Denise, who know Andrew’s drama teacher from H.S. in CA. Really nice people & we had a great meal & a great evening. More tomorrow!... read more

Yesterday morning we left Argentina for Colonia, Uruguay via Buquebus for the day. You can make the trip in 3 hours for one price or 1 hour on a high speed vessel for another price. It was worth the money and we had a great day. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I will just let the pictures speak for themselves. More tomorrow! ... read more

Yesterday Andrew took the day off from touring to catch up with stuff on the homefront while Trey, Kay & I took the Bus Turistico - Cuidad de Buenos Aires (tourbus). It was a great tour & a beautiful day to be outside & take pictures. Check out their website: www.buenosairesbus.com/en After the tour, we stopped by a local shopping mall for a Starbucks & to check out some very nice artwork. Not the kind of stuff you would find in any of the malls I normally go to! We had supper at another of Trey & Andrew’s favorites, Broccolini’s. They knew the waiter as they stayed in an apartment a block from it when they first arrived in BA. He seemed to be having an off night but I have been to places & received ... read more

Yesterday, we got off to a late start because we had a very late night at the costume party the day before. After breakfast we went to the antique market for some shopping. The antique market is a collection of vendors with a wide range of wares that set up booths every Sunday in San Telmo. Kay bought a shawl & a purse. I bought a felt hat from an interesting little man man who spoke excellent English, Claudio Pollan. His business card said La Fundamental Sombreros & he has a clever website: www.lafundamental.com.ar After a siesta, we went to a place recommended to Trey by my brother-in-law, Bob Emmick. Bob used to travel down here when he worked for EDS. More tomorrow! ... read more
