Hello everyone! Another week has passed, so we're now one week closer to our next half-term break. There's nothing exciting happening at work other than we've started negotiating a possible contract for next year, just in case we decide to come back. But, we went into London for the day yesterday with our housemates and visited Madame Tussauds wax museum. It's amazing how realistic the wax figures look. Enjoy the pictures!... read more

Hello everyone! We don't have any stunning, scenic pictures to put up like in our last threes posts from Berlin, Zurich and Paris. We hope you enjoyed seeing all of the pictures! We are now three weeks into the current term. There are only three more weeks left to go until our next one week break. We are happy to report that some our classes are going a lot more smoothly! Dare we say that the students are beginning to settle down and behave? Knock on wood! The first Monday back to work, January 7, was Briana's 25th birthday so we went out for dinner with our housemates. We also had a lot of fun that week telling our colleagues and students about our engagement. During the second week back to work the receptionist at the ... read more

Bonjour mes amis! (Hello my friends!) We have returned from the last 6 days of our European adventure. We arrived in Paris on Saturday December 30th later than expected because our flight was delayed. Our first business, as usual, was to find our hotel. This hotel was certainly no Swissôtel like in Zürich! Since it was the holidays, rooms in Paris were quite pricy. So we booked a room at a more affordable hotel located just outside central Paris. Let’s just say we got what we paid for! We learned to make no assumptions about what we think a hotel typically provides. This hotel didn’t even provide us with shampoo! But, our room was decent and the bed was comfortable enough and we got a breakfast buffet every morning. We purchased a 5 day travel card ... read more

Hello! We have just finished visiting the second of three countries that we planned for our trip: Switzerland! We arrived in Zürich on Wednesday, 26 December. Our first task, as usual, was to find our hotel. There was a courtesy shuttle at the airport to take us to the Swissôtel in central Zürich. The hotel has 32 floors. Our room was located on the 24th floor and gave us an amazing view of the city. On the 32nd floor is the fitness and wellness centre. There is a pool, whirlpool, fitness centre, massage parlour (for an extra fee) and a mixed (co-ed) sauna with the words “Naked Area” printed on the door. Since is was later in the evening when we arrived, most shops were closed so we spent our time looking around the hotel and ... read more

We arrived in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday and we will be here for four days. When we arrived in Berlin, we found our way to our hotel without getting lost! We took two public buses from the airport to get to our hotel and were surprised by the good quality of English the drivers spoke. At first glance, from the ... read more

Yesterday was our lucky day! Before the school day started we had a staff briefing in the staff room. All of the staff who have not had a day off since the beginning of the school year were entered into a draw. Both of us were among the names entered and the prize for the draw was a day off! (with pay, of course). Will's name was drawn! So in the new year, Will gets to arrange a day where he can stay home and have his classes covered. But, that wasn't the only luck we encountered during the day! Last night we had our staff Christmas party at a hotel. Before dinner started everyone had to open the Christmas cracker that was at their seat. Inside one of the Christmas crackers was a tube of ... read more

What a busy week it has been! Despite the chaos at work of having to mark exam papers and submit student grades by Friday, our week turned out wonderfully. Today is our one year anniversary! We celebrated our anniversary yesterday by spending the day in London. When we arrived in London we ventured to Leicester Square, which is a pedstrianised square in the west end of London. The square is lined with shops, cafes, restaurants and theatres. Something weird must have been happening on the weekend because there were at least a couple hundred people dressed up in santa suits! We had some lunch and then went to a box office and bought tickets to go and see the evening production of the musical Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The Apollo Victoria Theatre is located ... read more

The last couple of weeks have been fairly uneventful. Work has been going well, despite the fact that the kids are pretty wired because Christmas holidays are only 2 weeks away. This coming week is going to be insane. All of our year 7 - 9 classes have Maths progress tests, which means that we'll be spending romantic evenings marking test papers. All of the papers have to be marked and grades entered by Friday. On a lighter note, we have our staff Christmas party during the last week of school. It's a dinner and dance being held at a hotel not far from the school. It should be fun! Next weekend we're going to be preparing a big Christmas meal with the other people we live with. The plan is to have a big festive ... read more

We're completely knackered! That's about all we can say! For some reason this past week has been incredibly busy. We had a hell of a start to our week on Monday. We went to catch the 7:30 am bus, but it never showed up! We ended up having to take a taxi to work when we realized the bus wasn't coming and we'd be late if we didn't do otherwise. We later found out that our bus had broken down on its way back from its previous run. On Wednesday night we were at the school by 7 am and then didn't leave until 8 pm. We both had to create exams for our year 12 class (Will had to make a Statistics exam and Bri had to make a Core 1 Algebra and Functions exam). ... read more

It's been a couple of weeks since we last put up a post. We hope everyone enjoyed all of the pictures we put up of our trip to Spain! The past fortnight has been quite busy. Work, as usual, is busy with constant marking and lesson planning. But, those are the joys of the profession! Students are quite fascinated that Miss Paola and Mr. Truong are dating. We often get questions like "Sir, are you and Miss Paola married?...Are you going to get married?" "Miss, do you and Mr. Truong have kids?" It certainly starts some interesting classroom conversation, which sometimes leads into asking questions about Canada. We are extremely excited about our Christmas holidays! We get two weeks off at Christmas, so once again we have been planning an adventure to see as much of ... read more
