God, don't know how to tell you this but I've spotted a spelling mistake on your batik! Ok, mean joke, but it would so have happened to me. It looks fab!

Nice to hear from you!
It was so nice to hear from you, I'm glad you are keeping an eye on the blogs. It's nice to know that people are reading them,, but I would still do them anyway as a personal record. Saw photos of your weekend with my parents recently. We MIGHT try to come back for a week or two in October, depending on if we can get a cheap flight...I'll let you know. Love, Sharon

Well, as for the happiest place on earth I think we've slipped back quite a few notches since 2005 but I guess It was more like the others gained faster than us due largely to smaller population. The number one country now If I'm not mistaken is Fiji or another one of those Pacific Islands. I guess people living in tropical islands do have a common trait and that is their laid back lifestyle and generally contented outlook. Good observation about the guns you can verify the crime rate on nationmaster I believe that one has a greater chance of being murdered or robbed in the more affluent countries than it is in our country. Crazy, I agree!
I can't believe you will be here in 10 days time - bummer we'll miss each other! We are in KK right now basically killing time until our flight...will email you personally with more!
30th April 2008

hi ya - we will be there in less than 10 days!!! its ridiculous that you will be back in Phillipines. Any idea of where else / what else you are doing in Borneo as we fly into Brunei next Friday - what date you flying out again?

Not convinced!
Hmm, not convinced - it seems that a knife is a much better implement for cutting meat than a spoon. The rest of the world can't be wrong!

Hi Andi, We actually are trained as we did our advanced in Egypt, but they only take you to 30m which is dumb as the limit for recreational diving is 40m! I was fine at 30m, but maybe 40m is just too much for me...who knows. During my advanced course, I had to do a math problem on the surface and down below, and I actuially did it faster at 30m!!!

Great Blog
Great observation there...especially concerning seafoods...That's so true! As far as eating with fork and spoon, it's easier to scoop rice with a spoon rather than a fork and one just needs to learn how to cut meat with those two utensils which is actually easy. As for guns, it takes a lot of time to get used to really. And yeah, traveling in an archipelago does take a lot of patience but indeed, this place does offer a lot of surprises! Be back, there are quite thousands islands, endless beaches to discover! I will.

Oh.my.god What are you guys doing diving to 35m without proper training - madness. When we did our advanced I had a similar experience - we went down to 30m and were asked to do a number of simple tasks to demonstrate how you could be effected by nitrogen narcosis. They asked us to write our name backwards and after thinking about it for ages I ended up writing a mirror image of mine. Whoops! It is a very weird sensation! Sounds like the diving is amazing! We're hoping to head to the maldives later this year to see if it lives up to it's fab reputation.

I was looking at your pictures thinking wow, your underwater camera is amazing!

I knew there was a reason i dont like diving....all that stress of being underwater with little air. You are BRAVE, BRAVE. I personally couldnt do it - when i attempted it in Fiji i was ave. Glad that the o-ring didnt fail in the cave. Scary! Great floating bar - be great for a few nites out :) miss you x

Too much!
Ever since that bus ride, they have been like that - bumpy, dusty, and uncomfy! Lots of interesting people on them too, and at very close quarters! However, it was only on the Pandan road that I actually came out of my seat fully (mid-air) three times. It hasn't happened anywhere else, thank God!

Great pictures!
Where next, albeit the arduou journey and the different modes of transportation to get from Point A to Point B? Good to know that you guys are rewarded! Great pictures!
1st April 2008

basic transport!!
Now that's what I call basic transport, I thought we had some bad journeys on the mini buses in the south of Thailand. How long did you have to endure the seats on that bus to Pandan? Looks painful!!

Cockroaches - hit or miss!
Hi Jen, Yeah, they did get a bit unlucky as we have been here longer and stayed in more places, and only had roaches once (when they were staying right next door to us!) Now we are getting paranoid, however, but you just can't tell if a room had them until you sleep in it, and then its too late!!! Great to hear fom you, keep in touch, I was talking about you and your family today as we ate dinner with a guy from Calgary.
