We went, but didn't stay.
I think that's the beach we went to for the day, but the accommodation looked really pricey, but not sure as we didn't check... Is it? We are backpacking for a long time so on a budget.

Skype
Sounds tempting...I'll look into it and let you know, maybe via a phone call!

Skype
Come on guys, get up to speed! Skype is dead easy to use and you can phone landlines, mobiles and other skype accounts. The person receiving the call on a landline/mobile has no idea you're not phoning from a traditional phone (hence it would have worked fine with your bank). It is dirt cheap too, in our 6 month trip we put 20 euros credit on ours and came back with credit and I phoned my parents in spain at least once a week for 30 mins+ Go to skype.com to set up and account. All you need is an internet cafe where the a machine has skype installed and a headset with a microphone. There's even a test call you can use to ensure that the sounds is working correctly before you make a call (which is worth doing especially in internet cafes in some more remote parts).

Gorgeous indeed!
Lovely pictures. I'm glad read that your first stop was the rice terraces and that you guys had a great time! Where to next? What beach? There are 7,000 more islands to discover.

Mind you don't overdo it !!
Glad to see you've decided to do a bit of work at last, pity us poor souls who do it for 39 weeks of the year!! To be fair though it didn't sound an easy task out there, but a good experience all the same. Mum xx

India!!
Yes, we must be sado massachists (spelling?) as we are planning to head back to India. Third time lucky! Haven't got tickets or visas or anything yet, so who knows. I am reading "Holy Cow" right now which doesn't exactly help with the desire to buy a ticket! Plan to stay just in the Kashmir area this time which is appartnely more holy and serene than the rest of India (not a hard thing, admittedly!) Oh, skype...yes..not quite figured that one out yet, and besides, would our bank be able to communicate with skype?

Suggestions...
Not entirely sure yet...do you have any suggestions? We are looking for beautiful white sand beaches, good diving and snorkelling, and reasonable room rates (i.e. not fancy resort packages)... Sipalay, Malapascua, and Moalboal are top of our list so far...

In Caticlan...off to Boracay tomorrow.
We are heading to Boracay tomorrow, but the only problem is that it's Holy Week so accommodation is supposedly a nightmare. We might try for the 5:30am boat!!! Wish us luck!

Indian Visa
Yeah, that's what we are going to do. Our hesitation was that it will be rainy season in Thailand by then, and the Indian embassy takes 6 working days (so really 8 days) which is sooo typical of India! We'd planned to spend only a couple of days in Bangkok, but now we are planning for two weeks in the area...maybe Ko Samet...

Enjoy the Philippines!
Hello Sharon, thanks for sharing your accounts so far of the Philippines. I travel to the Philippines at least twice a year from NYC, and so was delighted to read about someone else's perspective. I hope you will have an opportunity to visit Boracay (have you been there?) or Cebu, both among my favorites places in the Philippines. But there are so many others great places to visit outside of Manila which, as you noted, could indeed be a lot of "madness". Good luck and enjoy your stay there!! Van

You're kind of right!
Well, I think it was actually my fault as I had them in my bag and I think I forgot about unpacking them and then they rolled under the backpack - oops! Oh well, I can't be expected to remember everything!!!

Laos
Can't believe you're heading to Loas, Katherine just got back from there today!

Changed a lot!
Yes, Thailand in general has changed a lot. It seems that there are fewer and fewer "real" backpackers and more and more two-weekers demanding a/c and cable TV in their rooms! AND they all make reservations, now, making spontaneous travel really quite hard. Hence, heading back to Laos for a week!

Lipe Resort
Hey hey. Hasn't Lipe Resort changed! We stayed in the cute, cheap fan rooms with 24 hour electric and giggled every time someone else in a more expensive a/c room complained that their electricity went off at 6am - sometimes there is justice. This time last year we were just setting off : (
