Couldn't have said it better myself
I'm amazed at all the details that you remember Sharon! You tell your experiences so wonderfully. I'm glad you're having such a great time here. Your blog is really inspirational and you and your kids (and maybe generations to come) will enjoy reading this! Keep at it, you are very gifted with words!

Great to hear you are all well!
I just had a read up of all that you've been up to - what an action packed last few months you have all had. You're all looking so healthy and tanned too! Can't wait to hear more about your trip when you arrive tomorrow. xx

Loving the mermaid
Hey - great to hear more tales from your trip. I am absolutely loving the mermaid picture - guess what I’ll be doing next time I hit a (warm) beach?! Hope you have a wonderful time in Oz and the cost of things aren’t too much of a shock to the system. Enjoy xx

Glad to get my surgery over and done with! Now the six-week swimming ban countdown can start!

Which mission hospital?
When I was growing up in Thailand there were two: The Bangkok Christian Hospital and the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital. And at the time I was born at BNH, I believe it was the British Nursing Home associated with the Anglican Church at the other end of Convent Road.

Wow!!!
I'm pleased you dodged all the bullets. I agree that medical care in Thailand is first rate. I took my three teenage kids to the Bangkok Nursing Home (BNH) in 2007 to see where I was born in 1949. My two daughters decided they wanted a couple things fixed as we were greeted when walking in the door. They are able to be seen by a doctor immediately and have their procedures and really inexpensively. They had a small museum of what a typical ward was many years ago. I wondered if the bed was the one my mom used. I also showed they the old hospital out the back window. Now if I could only convince my wife that we should spend months at the beaches of Thailand! As an old white guy I can't go by myself...too many bad false assumptions.

Unfortunately
Yes, I know what you mean. As an older white guy it's better to be with your wife so as to avoid stereotyping!

Ahhhh. Western Australia..
We spent 3 months in SW Western Australia when the kids were 2 and 3, living out of a 25 year old van we bought for $2000... All four of us slept in a tiny tent we bought at KMart on a mattress we bought at the dump in Perth. One of the highlights of our time away. It was so expensive (compared to Asia), but the isolation, cleanliness and lack of people really cleansed the soul. The stars, oh the stars. After 9 months in SE Asia, I didn’t realise how much I missed the stars, especially when you can lie back and see the entire Milky Way.... If you can make it to Esperance, do it. Cape le Grand National park is breathtaking. We even went back a couple of years ago for our ten year wedding anniversary. We were in Coral Bay for our second anniversary (pre kids), and we wanted to show the kids a reef you can swim to from the shore. Well worth the 2400km round trip drive! :)

Sounds amazing!
Hi, your trip sounds amazing! We traveled eastern Oz in a camper pre-kids but this time we are only staying three weeks (mostly because of the crazy costs) and doing Perth to Monkey Mia ((where we will spend most of our time chilling out with the dolphins!)

And thanks for this summary...
I can relate to feeding the kids as being the most difficult part of the experience. You gave the price for transportation and accommodations. What was the total price is you don't mind me asking.

Price
Hi, yeah, it's hard to say the exact amount we spent as it's hard to decide what's included: insurance, inoculations, offset the rental income from our house etc. As a ball park, we estimate about $80,000 overall. Money well spent! ?

We've been following your adventure with the kids. it can be done as you've proved.

Ribena!
I'm so jealous that you got ribena on your flight? Who did you fly with? Also loving that an airline seats two kids so far away from their parents. Genius - bet you were tempted to just go with it for five minutes!? Hope you are continuing to enjoy Gili Air - keep an eye out for my elephant trousers. I still so regret not buying them! Enjoy chill out!

Ribena in kids meal!
Hi Andrea! The kid's meal comes with Ribena on Air Asia! I did think of you when it came! Yeah, we did consider keeping the seats as assigned for a laugh! And I've seen your elephant pants everywhere!

The Chinese are coming! In their bright orange life jackets. You aren't kidding. In Borneo I got run down by herds of them. Had no idea

Where did you get your driver's licence?
A reasonable question when at home but one wondered but not asked in our travels. How many can you fit on a moped? How many can you squeeze on the roof of a truck, bus or carriage? Will the driver watch the road or you? Ah the joy of the risks of transport in third world countries! Great blog. Be safe so you can enjoy!

We said El Nido was no longer the idyllic place Scott had described sadly. It seems like you are enjoying it now though.
