We continued North to the Tip. We stayed 14km from the Tip at Punsand Bay. We have a campsite right on the beachfront. We had a swim, obviously not in the sea because the water is full of salt water crocodiles. I didn’t want to get gobbled up. We went in the small swimming pool instead. For tea, I invented a triple decker hamburger and called it the Big Al. It had bread, cheese, meat, onion, Toad in the hole (which is an egg cooked in a hole in a piece of bread), bacon, onion, tomato sauce, bbq sauce and cracked pepper. It is so yummy. In the morning we got up early and drove to the Tip before anyone else got there and while it was still low tide. Otherwise we mightn’t have reached the ... read more

We drove at 7.30 in the morning to get to Eliot Falls to get a good campsite. We arrived just before lunch. We went for a swim in Twin Falls. We sat in the waterfall. Dad and I climbed up to the top of the waterfall. When we got to the next level, we walked over and sat under the waterfall. It almost washed Dad’s shorts off his backside. We went for a drive down the OTT (Old Telegraph Track). It had a lot of bumps, creek crossings and steep muddy banks. We went North to South which is the hardest way to go. When we got to Gunshot Creek, we had a look. Dad said we would only look and not go up, but Dad ended up going up the Chicken Track and managed with ... read more

When we got to Weipa we found the camping ground, and set up. I got to unravel the power lead. We had a look at the car. We noticed we have done the front left strut on the shock absorber. So we can’t go anywhere until we get it fixed. Go in to town and looked for the mechanic. Mum and Dad went in and arranged for the replacement strut to be ordered. It won’t leave Cairns until Tuesday and arrive Wednesday night. Car will be fixed Thursday and then we can leave. For lunch we had a snack at the bakery. We went to the newsagents to have a look around. We had to buy a new phone that is Next G. This is the only service available in Cape York. Later we went in ... read more

We took photos by “Krys” the 8.63m crocodile replica in Normanton. The biggest ever shot in the area. We left Normanton and drove to Karumbu for a look. Only a fishing town. I got a hat pin and we all had a look around. On the way to Mitchell River, which is our camping spot for the night, we saw some branding. That was at Dunbar Station. There were a fair amount of men working. Some are to keep the cows moving, some were branding and some were working the crush. We went through a gate to get to our camping spot. There was a sign on the gate that said “Cross River at own Risk, $500 Tow Fee”. So if you got stuck it was $500 to be towed out. On the way to Hann ... read more

We drove to Kingfisher Camp and on the way, it seemed like we had to open and close about a 1000 gates. We set up camp, and had a look around. I found the boat ramp and there were 4 boats and 1 canoe there. Mum did our washing and Dad helped to hang it out to dry. I found a piece of string and a rock and tied them together. I had fun playing with my pet rock, until I found the cows. Kate & I followed them around all afternoon. They were ramming heads with each other. Dad said “They were headbangers”. Later on that night they came around the campsite to eat the grass. They bellowed really loud. Passed through Burketown on the way to our next camp spot at Leichhardt Falls. We ... read more

We arrived in Winton and we bumped into Richard & Di, people that own an Ultimate Camper. We camped out at Bladensburg National Park where they were camped. We saw some kids swinging off a rope with a stick into the river. We wanted to have a go, but we were too chicken to. When some of the kids left, we had a go. I was the first to have a go, out of Kate and I. I did a backflip into the water from the rope - it was fun. Went through Cloncurry and camped outside Mt. Isa. In the morning drove to Lawn Hill National Park. We saw some fossils and went on a walk there. On the way down from the gorge walk, I slipped off a rock and grazed the top of ... read more

On the way to Longreach we did a tyre. We made it Longreach without busting another tyre. We looked around for a replacement tyre. Lucky us, we found a tyre dealer straight away, so Dad ran in and asked if they could fix it. They came out to have a look and said “Sorry it can’t be fixed”. So we found the Information Centre and got a map of the time and asked about the caravan park. We found the caravan park we were after, so we went and booked in. We set up and made lots of phone calls to try to replace the tyre. The earliest we could get one was next week. We had to spend 5 days in Longreach, much more than we planned to. So we did one thing per day ... read more

In Birdsville we went out to Big Red, which is a big sand dune of the Simpson Desert and it is really red. Birdsville locals say it is a tourist attraction for sunset. We climbed up, but Mum stayed in the car because we didn’t know if it was Big Red at first. Once we did, we told Mum to come up, but she got stuck a third of the way up. She forgot to put the car in 4WD before attempting the climb. So she called to Dad and he reversed down and raced up the sand dune. I was standing at the side watching Dad go bump to bump to get to the top. We had tea at the famous Birdsville Hotel. Mum and Dad had a delicious steak. Back to camp and then ... read more

The road out of Broken Hill was boring and bumpy on the way to Cameron’s Corner it was very outbacky. Cameron’s Corner is where 3 states meet - New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland. Then we hit the road again and headed to Innamincka. Had a look around and filled the car with fuel. I got a hat pin to add to my collection. Then we were on the road to Burke’s Grave. Burke’s Grave is where Burke died, he was a famous explorer together with his sidekick Wills. Wills died on the other side of town, but also on Cooper Creek. We then headed to the Dig Tree which is where Burke & Wills had set up camp to head North to the Gulf of Carpentaria. When they weren’t back by a certain date ... read more

In the middle of Friday night, we left in the dark and we hit the roads. When it got light, we could see that it was pretty boring until we got to New South Wales. We started to see some towns and then we got back to the Great Outback - boring. It was boring, because it was so boringly plain and dry. After that, we came up to a rest area and we said we will stay here the night. Then we set up and sat down to write our journals. Later we put the food on the BBQ. After tea I read, and then Mum read a chapter of Deltora Quest to us before bed. In the morning we packed up and we headed off to Broken Hill. We had a look around and ... read more
