General Blog Comments
I love the graceful Japanese architecture of the castles, temples, retreats, etc. I've never seen "egg salad sandwich" on the menu of any Japanese eatery that we've visited. Martin had a friend years ago that joined a team of anthropologists doing research in a Peruvian village in the Andes. The method of relieving oneself was to squat at the edge of a cliff. This caused a Constipation Epidemic among the team. I think your "bad toilet" would provoke the same in me. We never got out this Fall for a color show drive. Thanks for taking us along on yours...although the steepness left us breathless. Carol

You didn't mention how long you were going to be in Japan....I hope long enough to recover from your jet lag. East to West is always the worst for us. Ten hours plus three hours driving....yikes!

pay it forward
Lynn, About the man who went out of his way to make sure you got on the right train, if ever there was an entire country or a culture that embraces "pay it forward", Japan would be my choice. Although it's been nearly 50 years since I lived there for three years, it's encouraging to hear that kindness still happens. It is such a wonderful experience to encounter people like that wherever. I miss living there. "go ni irrette wa, go ni shita ga e". Best wishes, baker

Sigh!
Enjoyed your travelogue and great photos as usual....especially of the home and beautiful surrounding landscape. Good to be reminded that not everybody lives in an 1879 inner city ruin with a leaky bathtub and a crumbling carriage house in the rear! Looking forward to photos of Palm Springs. Hope Bill's eye is better...that didn't sound good. Abrazos, Carol and Martin

Whew, shocking!
I just got back from 9 days in Hawaii. Lof of 68 and high of 78 degrees. It was sunny and beautiful. One dramatic storm blew in at night and out by morning leaving little bits of this and that to find on the beach. Coral, rocks and beach glass! We'll miss you at the Docent Valentines party tomorrow. Deryl is busy getting set up and Linda has had a pro in to clean her bath tub (?) and house. Of course, none of this can compete with cat porn and disco music! Yikes.
