AT LAST A DAY WHEN I CAN DO SOMETHING I'M GOOD AT. 05:35- I couldn't sleep thinking about the alarm going off in 5 minutes. 06:00-unlock the shop and recieve last minute instructions from Alan. The main thing is come home with the same number you left with. Good advise to be heeded. 06:30-the crew is all aboard and the final count of guests to expect is 43. Colin starts to dingy the guest aboard-first trip-15, second trip-19, third trip-5. The phone they've given me rings and Alethia tells me that one couple is going to join us outside the harbour coming over from St Vincent, that one couple failed to show up, and that we are to bring one passenger up from the Cays to Bequia. that makes the count 41 going down and 42 coming ... read more

James (our resident chef) came through last nigh with some awsome chicken stir-fry. And the good news is he's at again tonight. My day started off with a 1/2 mile swim then spent most of the morning painting the port side of the ship's cabin. Then the afternoon trying to fit a bench in the ship's changing room. It's thard to get anything done without the proper tools and there arn't a lot of tools here on the island. When I returned to the house, Alan was talking to Meg and their girls on the computer. He and Hazel were playing a game of "guess what I'm thinking" Alan went through about 16 questions before he guess a sheep. I think Hazel could have played this game all day long, but after about an hour, Alan ... read more

Greetings from Bequia, I was dead tired last night, so I hit the sack at 9:00 and didn't get up til 7:00am. I started the day off with a 1 mile swim. Then it was on the boat to get fuel and water. I had shown Alan my list of things that I noticed the boat needed to make it better. And just as I thought, he said "that looks great--make it so". So it looks like I have created some work for myself. After noon I set out on a serious walk about. Alan had three For Sale signs he wanted placed on properties around the island. One was at a new area under development called Friendship Hieghts- and rightly named. It was a seriously steep climb to the top. Some sections were so steep ... read more

Well, we didnt't get to refuel the boat this morning. Something about the refueling ship not being there. We'll try again tomorrow. I tidied up the boat a little and tried to replace a broken hinge on the storage room door, but the hinge was the wrong size and the screw heads kept twisting off-that's how hard the wood is) Sarah gave me my only job of any consequence this afternoon. I repainted a wooden window that had to be replaced at the harbour shop. Trying to use a roller right out of the bucket meant a good deal of paint on me as well as the window covering. Alan wants me to go to St Vincent on Monday to the government offices and try to round up some land descriptions for some properties here on ... read more

Mornin', Mornin', Sunrise on Day 1 on Bequia. I arrived last evening only about 10 minutes behind schedule--pretty good for "island time". My plane from Miami sat at the gate for an hour before we could take off. Some sort of mechanical. It was a good thing I had extra time to transfer in Barbados. We flew from Barbados to Union island before heading to Bequia. That flight took us right over the Tobago Cays, which was beautiful. I can't wait to get down there on the Rose on Sunday. Sarah, Alan's niece met me at the airport and the ride accross the island was all too familiar. Everything looked just as I left it a year and a half ago. I'm staying at Alan's house with him and Simon, his nephew, and James, Simon's freind ... read more

Hi gang, Day 1 on my way to Bequia. I flew into Ft Lauderdale, then took a shuttle to South Beach. My hotel is a small old building that has been recently renovated. I think its very nice and only a block off the beach and right in the heart of South Beach action. I stubbled apon a great little hole in the wall for dinner tonight. It's called the Pizza Bar. And they had the most humungous pizzia's I've ever seen. It was a good 36-48 inches in diameter. One slice was about 18 inches. Everyone just sat at the bar and watched the guys make the pizzas. On two huge flat screen tv's they were showing the movie Braveheart. It was just a neet place to hang out . After dinner I walked all ... read more

I'll miss you sweet Bequia. Sweet, sweet Bequia, My Caribbean island home. I'll miss the blue of your seas, And the green of your hills, The white of the sails of your ships at anchor. The rainbow of colored houses that dot your land. And the red of your ever-present mimosa trees. I'll miss you sweet Bequia. Sweet, sweet Bequia, My Caribbean island home. I'll miss the sound of your waves Crashing onto Friendship beach, And their gentle lapping onto your bronze sands of Lower Bay. The winding motors of the "dollar buses" As they speed up and down your steep roads. The rustle of the wind in the leaves of your palms. And the sound of dominoes being shaken In your neighborhood watering holes. I'll miss you sweet Bequia. Sweet, sweet Bequia, My Caribbean island ... read more

Greetings from Bequia, This morning I ran barefoot in the packed sand and surf on Friendship beach. I paced the beach off and judging by my time its a half mile from end to end. So back and forth and back and forth a few times and I had in four miles. Then I just fall in the water to cool down. It doesn't get much better than this. Mid morning we get some much needed rain. Admiralty bay is glassy slick while the rain falls down. After about an hour, the rain has stopped but its still cloudy and breezy. Alethea and Kim (from the villa/ship office) are heading out to lunch and invite me to come along. They take me to a back street hole-in-the wall diner visited only by the locals. There I ... read more
