I love to travel and am working hard on my bucket list, but I'm not making much of a dent because I keep adding to it.

My first blog was my Coast to Coast England walk in the summer of 2015, and I have vowed to blog each trip that I take in the future. I wish I had done blogs for previous trips to New Zealand, Chile/Argentina/Easter Island, Peru, Nepal/Bhutan and Costa Rica. It was so much easier to organize my photos with my daily blog to follow! I always thought I'd remember everything when I looked at my pictures, but it's amazing how easy it is to forget details at the end of a long trip.

And it's now 2019 and I haven't attempted to blog for my last several trips I'm going to try again!

I'm really not in Tasmania yet....but have been challenged by posting on this blog site. Anyway, I am currently in Falls Church, VA and busily packing for my trip to Australia. I'm leaving Wednesday, Jan. 30 and because of crossing the International dateline, I'll be spending the night of Feb. 1 at a Melbourne airport hotel and flying to Hobart, Tasmania on Feb. 2nd. I'm traveling with OAT (Overseas Adventure Travel)) for 3+ weeks and then spending 5 days with friends in the Mornington Peninsula.....I'm looking forward to meeting many of my friend's relatives and getting a real local experience. I'm not looking forward to the long trip from DC to LA and then to Melbourne I'm sure I'll be ready to relax by the hotel pool!... read more

I obviously have not managed to do a blog during this trip....I had such good intentions and I really enjoyed blogging during my last two trips....but I just haven't been able to manage to do it this trip....I can put some blame on the slow and sometimes non-existent internet, but it's also partly related to the nature of this trip, particularly when the group adventure started. Activities begin very early (tomorrow we have breakfast at 6am) and we often don't return to our rooms until after 10. With such an early start tomorrow, I'm not going to attempt to describe anything we have done. However, I do want to mention that the company we are doing the guided part of our trip with is Alaska Alpine Advenures. We booked the trip with World Outdoors, but it ... read more

I can't believe the self guided portion of our trip is about over. We've had a fabulous 10 days with 3 nights in Juneau, 3 nights in Sitka, 3 nights in Ketchikan and one night on the Alaska State Ferry. We thought we might be ready for a guided trip figuring we would encounter some hassles along the way doing it ourselves, but it has been perfect and we have said many times how happy we are that circumstances pushed us to do the Inside Passage on our own. Today we fly to Anchorage (via Seattle) and tomorrow begin our Multi-sport adventure with World Outdoors. We are looking forward to meeting our group but feel fortunate to have had so many opportunities in the past 10 days to talk with Alaskans as well as many other ... read more

Ferry to Ketchikan and Sitka Adventures I now have a blog written on the last ferry from Juneau to Sitka on July 9th but never posted because I couldn't figure out how to paste it from Pages, and another written on July 10th on the blog site but never posted when it appeared the site shut down while I was trying to download pictures. I'm now trying writing on Notes and will hope I can paste this! We embarked on the MS Columbia, the largest ferry in the Alaska State Ferry fleet yesterday at 4:30 p.m. We are scheduled to arrive in Ketchikan at 2 p.m. We had brief stops in Petersburg and Wrangell but not long enough to get off the boat, but I was able to get a brief look at the towns from ... read more

i left Eugene, Oregon yesterday morning after celebrating the 4th of July attending my last day of the Olympic Trials and then going to one of the many wonderful brew pubs with my brother, sister-in-law and niece (who had arrived from Denver that afternoon in time to attend the Olympic trial events that afternoon). The last day in Eugene we had one final walk along the many trails and then a final lunch in a brew pub--s record number of beers on tap! I arrived in Juneau yesterday afternoon....as expected the weather was cloudy with off and on sprinkles and one real rain shower. My friend, Mary Jean arrived a couple of hours after I did and we enjoyed walking around Juneau and then headed back to our hotel fairly early....we packed our backpacks prepared for ... read more

There's nothing like Eugene, Oregon in the summer! Every day has been sunny with lovely breezes and low humidity. It's delightfully cool at night...wonderful to sleep with the windows open! i've heard some people complaining about the "unusually hot weather" but even though it is hot in the sun, as soon as you stand in the shade it feels very comfortable to me. i arrived in Eugene Wednesday evening after enjoying flying First Class on my flights from DC to Phoenix and from Phoenix to Portland. I booked these flights using frequent flyer miles last September and did not request (or use extra miles or spend any $1) to get an upgrade....but when I went to choose my seats, they were in First Class! It was a treat to have big seats with plenty of leg ... read more

Even though this is my third blog on this site, I'm not sure I've really figured it out. I'm not in Oregon yet so I probably should have put in Falls Church, VA since that's where I'm writing this, but I'm not writing about Falls Church so I thought I should put in the first place I'm visiting on my next trip....which is Eugene, Oregon. I leave tomorrow morning for Eugene where I will spend a week visiting my brother and his wife and going to the Olympic Track and Field Trials (as well as hiking and hopefully visiting breweries and wineries) before heading to Alaska on July 6th. I will meet a friend in Juneau for a 3+ week adventure in Alaska. We booked this trip last September....two months before I booked my "last minute" ... read more

I arrived back from India almost 5 days ago and am still processing the experience. Our guide, Singh, told our group that it would take several days for us to process all the experiences and he was absolutely right. I've had many people ask what was my favorite part of the trip and I've realized that I can't even begin to answer that question. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes and the PEOPLE were all amazing and all made an impression in many different ways. And I know I've only seen a very small part of India. People tell me that Southern India is a whole different culture...I may just have to go back and see for myself! It is true that the poverty and crowding can be overwhelming at times. However, there is ... read more

I had an hour free yesterday afternoon and wrote a detailed description of activities from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon. I clicked Save just as the Internet shut down and my entire blog disappeared! VERY FRUSTRATING! The Internet then didn't work last night so I'll have to do an abbreviated version while waiting in the lobby for breakfast to open. Thursday morning we began the day at the temples of Khajuraho, built by the Chandelas in the 10th century. Many temples were destroyed when the Mughais invaded (and ruled much of India until the British), but these apparently were missed because of their relatively remote location. They were discovered by British archeologists in the 1800's who were likely rather shocked by the erotic sculptures. There are thousands of scenes depicted on just the 9 temples we ... read more

We arrived in Agra on the evening of the 15th and checked into another amazing hotel before heading out for our first glimpse of the Taj Mahal. We saw it from the back at sunset which was quite impressive but we knew it was only a taste of what was to come. We had a wake-up call at 5 a.m. yesterday morning, so we could be at the front of the line when the gates opened at sunrise. Our guide told us to leave all bags on the bus so we could avoid the bag security and just go through the body scan and pat down. We were among the first people to walk onto the grounds.....It was truly amazing!!! it was incredible to stand in front of it and for the first 10 minutes, to ... read more
