Glad you liked it It was a fun little journey we made. It makes me happy to know that you liked to read about it. We have some more stuff saved. Those will be coming up in two more blogs. /Ake
Exploring villages Not all Unesco sights are equal. I like the look of these stones. It isn't Stonehenge but connects us to the past and makes us think, ponder and appreciate.
Often memorials Often the rune stones are memorials over relatives who have passed away. That particular stone was raised to the memory of Sibbe the Wise. /Ake
Crocodile Dundee Ah, indeed, I have just read this blog entry now. I would love to have stayed at the Walkabout Creek Hotel! ? I love the idea of a dry boat race, that sounds like typical Aussie humour! You certainly packed a lot into your trip to Australia, I imagine you very much enjoyed remembering it in this write-up. Thank you for another very interesting read ?
I had so much fun writing Writing these blog entries was so much fun. There were many memories that came back. When I did that trip I was on a really tight budget. It would be interesting to go back now with a substantially larger budget and travel again. I think such a trip would be quite different. /Ake
Australia Ah, beautiful Australia! I know the film Crocodile Dundee well, it is one of my childhood favourites. I would certainly have it in mind if I visited Australia in the future! Thank you for a good read, reminiscing the good old days of travelling - getting a free shared-ride to Darwin, and hitching a ride in a hot-air balloon ? Thank you for another good read, Ake ?
More on Crocodile Dundee I had another visit at a Crocodile Dundee related site later in the trip. It is featured in the third blog entry I wrote. I guess you will read that too in a while. /Ake
Nice Trip! Wonderful to read about your latest travel and the interesting sites on Öland Island. The rauks you mention (Byrums Raukar) caught my attention because I had hoped to see the rauks when we visited Gotland in 2005; we never got to see them but I bought a postcard showing them! Lovely photos!
Many rauks on Gotland I visited Gotland many years ago and had no problem finding rauks. I then saw many that were much better than Byrums Raukar. There is a chance that we will visit Gotland next year. If we do I will post several more pictures of rauks, I promise. /Ake
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
