Cusco's a beautiful city with many squares and many things to do. Machu Picchu is one of the attractions that mainly leaves out of here. I stayed for a few days to see the city then booked a four day trek that ends with MP. I would have loved to do the Inca trail but it costs more than twice the price than some of the alternatives. I ended up doing an Inka Jungle Trek that was pretty nice and we stayed near some cool little towns. We hit some great hot springs one night as well. However, when we arrived in Aguas Calientes, which is the town directly below MP, the excitement really started. A few of us from the group decided to climb a mountain which gave a great overlook to MP from across ... read more

If you haven´t heard, there´s a place on earth called Lake Titicaca. It´s a marvellous place with an even better name. Just a few hours outside of La Paz, you can reach a place called Copacabana, which is right on the lake. From town there´s an hour and a half boat ride to Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun). This was a great chill place with a few hostels and restaurants scattered around a few small villages. In about four hours you can walk from one side to the other and see some Incan ruins over looking a small bay. We has to take the opportunity to swim in the lake. It just so happened there were some locals building a small dock who found it funny that a bunch of gringos where swimming in ... read more

First thing you notice when you get to La Paz is that your bag seems to be quite a bit heavier and you can barely walk two blocks without getting winded. La Paz is located in a very high valley surrounded by mountains. Think the city is somewhere around 11-12,000 ft in elevation, haven´t checked the facts though. We stayed a great hostel with a good happy hour. La Paz seems to be one giant market. There are markets for clothes, food, custom leather jackets (which the Israelis were all over) and tourists´things. Also, there´s a witches´ market where you can buy potions, stuffed animals (were once alive, now stuffed) dried llama fetuses, and many things I wouldn´t know what to do with. As well, there is a market known as the black market where you ... read more

Bolivia huh? Didn´t think I´d ever be finding myself here. First on our agenda were the Uyuni Salt Flats. After quite a bit of time bouncing down dirt roads in hand-me-down buses, we reached the town of Uyuni. Here we scheduled a three day tour of the surrounding area. Six of us piled into a 1980´s Land Cruiser and set out to see the sights. The sights included a rusted out train cemetary, glassy lagoons full of flamingos, another volcano, hot springs, and the spectacular salt flats. Once again, pictures do not do this place justice. Our first day, we went to an "island" covered in cacti in the middle of the salt flats, stayed in a hostel made of salt bricks, ate some llama steaks, and did some exploring of the area. Waking before sunrise, ... read more

Heading back to Argentina, I figure Argentine wine country is a good spot to hit. Mendoza is a nice city where I spent a few days walking around, eating steak, and of course drinking wine. I took a wine tour of a few wineries and though they were nice, I didn´t feel they understood exactly why people go on wine tours. Sure we care how the wine is made, which I´ve heard a few times in my life, in english and now in spanish, but I care a bit more about the taste of the final product. Of course I spit it out after tasting. The tour was nice though and it included an unexpected tour of an olive oil factory. After another steak, I headed for Cordoba. Cordoba was a bit different than Mendoza. This ... read more

Well, after Pucon, we headed to the Capital of Chile, Santiago. We spent a few days chilling at our great hostel´s swimming pool complete with swim-up bar and seeing the city. Santiago has a great pulse, good empanadas, great nightlife, and I´m sure some great sites which I can´t describe from personal experience. After a few days there, I headed to the coast to swim in the Pacific once again. Vina del mar is a nice town full of young people and some good bars. I spent a day there getting lost in the city and finding some great food. At this point I split ways with my Israeli amigo who went to BA to meet up with some other friends with plans to meet back up in Argentina, somewhere.... read more

On my own now, I decide over a few homebrewed beers from our great hostel in Bariloche that Chile needs a visit. I hear about a place called Pucon and that´s about all it took. While on the bus, I notice an overwhelming sensation that I can´t explain. Maybe I felt like I was home, maybe it was a feeling of unexplanable togetherness, nope all wrong, the bus was just full of Jews. Apparently Chile should now be known as little Israel. You walk the streets and signs are in Hebrew, strange. Luckily I sat next to one who wasn´t completely loud and obnoxious and we decided to look for a hostel together. He must have been the only Israeli not traveling with 10 people. Soon I found out that he was an was just momentarily ... read more

After an amazing time with our boys from home, I left them behind for Andrew and Lu to deal with, sorry guys, and headed to one of the new natural wonders of the world. My plan was to see the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls for a few hours then meet up with my friend Alissa on the Argentine side where we´d being staying. Taking an early morning plane from Rio to Foz do Iguazu was made difficult by having to say goodbye to my friends in addition to staying out and watching another Brazilian soccer game. This one was between Botafogo and Flumenese played at the Maracana, which will be hosting the 2014 World Cup Finals, hope I make it back. Luckily I met some cool people on the plane who had pretty much the ... read more

Before meeting up with team Shenanigans, we headed out for one last great dinner in Curitiba. All you can eat Brazilian BBQ, home delicious meats and the Brazilian favorite Corozao de Frango, (chicken hearts) yum. After the chicken hearts we headed for Sao Paulo to meet with some more Brazilian friends and anxiously await the arrival of our American buddies. Forro club, Samba-Rock, & Futebol game number two under our belts, we wake up early to meet our friends at the airport. Amazingly, all but one made it no problem. Anyone who has met him will understand that Scot somehow managed to completely screw up his flight. After waiting a couple hours for the little guy's arrive, we make our way to Maresias. Maresias is a small beach town a couple hours outside of Sao Paulo ... read more

One can say futebol (pronounced foochieball) is part of the culture here in Brazil. On any given day you can see about one in three people wearing some sort of jersey. So we desided to go to a game to get some culture. We figured what better game than when the two Curitiba teams are playing eachother, what's the worst that can happen? Well, the super fans are called fanaticos and to tell you the truth I couldn't see anyone that wasn't a super fan. Toilet paper, fireworks, giant flags, chanting, singing were all present. Seemed like anything was allowed but beer, not sure why. You can walk the streets with beer in hand, drive your car with beer in hand, do just about anything except no drinking in the stadium, only outside. I have never ... read more
