The story so far...

We sold our house in the UK back in 2005 to finance a round-the-world trip that would take us to 16 countries in 21 months. 6 of those 21 months were spent in New Zealand, during which time we fell in love with the country and its people; we even got married here!

We went back to the UK at the end of June 2007 but didn't quite settle, so in March 2008 we applied for permanent residence in NZ and this was granted on the 08/08/08. The Chinese were right, that was a lucky day! We arrived here on 18th October, with 4 suitcases full of dreams and hopes (and a few clothes), having to start again pretty much from scratch in our late thirties... but we're loving it! This is our next great adventure and we wouldn't change it for the world!

This blog is mainly written for our friends and family back "home" and around the world, to keep them up to date with our new life "down under", and hopefully tempt them to come and visit us soon!

English version Ok, so it finally happened. I knew it had to at some point, had been expecting it, but still came as a bit of a shock. It’s winter and I’m having to wear more than one layer!!!!!! Noooooooo!!! Still, considering that what we’ve had to suffer over the last couple of months is still better than the average British summer, I’m not complaining!!! Particularly after reading the news last week: "Two months of rain in half a day", "Snow in June!" And this is after suffering the coldest winter of the last 12 years (yes, I know this also happened in many other countries) … looks like I had a lucky scape after all! I guess I never managed to adjust to the colder weather, after all I wasn’t made to survive in a ... read more

As I sit in our lounge and ponder over where to start this new blog page, I can't help looking up every few seconds to look at the views from the window... and feel a strong urge to pinch myself. It's siesta time on a Friday as I start writing this and it's wonderfully peaceful; it's also rather warm so hopefully I won't fall asleep! The corrugated bit of metal you can see in the first picture is our garage's roof, the green field is a college's sports ground. The blue bit ... read more
