Today is Erawan Falls. This is a National Park out from Kanchanaburi that has a fairly spectacular waterfall over 7 levels. We got a taxi after some bartering, 1000 baht return. The drive is just under an hour. We walked through the first level and at the second level there was a sign to watch out for the vicious monkeys. At the third level they mark any water bottles and you pay a deposit. This has kept the park really clean which is quite refreshing. The kids couldn't wait any longer, and went swimming in the next waterhole. There was an [View Full Entry]

Its off to Kanchanaburi. We need to get to Bangkok Noi Railway station. At first the taxi doesn't know where it is, but after a bit of discussion we get it cleared up. Six of us pile into the Corolla or whatever it is and head off. At 6.50 am there is not too much traffic fortunately, and the trip is only about 15 minutes. There is a huge Fruit and Vegetable market at the train station, and we are stuck in traffic which has Corry and Christine a little fretful. Got the tickets and Isabella, Liam, Harry and I head [View Full Entry]

Today we had an amazing day. We spent a better part of it trying to work out how to get to a national park called Erawan National Park where there are these famous waterfalls. We were initially thought about taking the bus, but decided against it, as we wouldn’t get to spend much time at the park, before we had to catch the last bus home. We had seen lots of advertisements around advertising scooter hire. These scooters are 110cc I think and come in Automatic or manual. We went into numerous outlets advertising scooter hire. The general cost was 200 [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone, So here is another quick update on how things are. so yesterday afternoon we caught a cab to the train station called thonburi which is the only train station that our train stops at to take us to kanchanaburi which is north west of bangkok.about 2 hours away. So we left the guest house in bangkok and got a cab. The driver had bad english but said yes and seemed to get the idea of where we wanted to go.we were running late as it was so needed him to go a bit faster. Traffic was so bad and [View Full Entry]

Alrighty, upon my return to Thailand I had one more day in Bangkok, primarily to allow me to post home all the outsize and unwieldy souvenirs I had purchased in Myanmar. This done in remarkably good time I headed out to indulge in more of the fantastic street food which is on offer everywhere. Tummy bulging, but unable to resist buying everything I saw, I took refuge in a nearby massage parlour (with no food in view). This one had a slight twist though, the massage was performed by fish! Having cleaned my feet I tentatively placed them into the water. [View Full Entry]

We decided to head out to Kanchanaburi, a couple of hours west of Bangkok to experience a different part of Thailand. We successfully tackled Thai public transport by hailing a taxi (putting hand out, palm down and moving right and left over and over) very informative darling then worked out how to buy a bus ticket in the bus station but found that we were stared at a lot! I couldn’t understand why people turned to look at us but Matt pointed out that it was probably because we are actually the whitest people in Asia it seems. We are definitely [View Full Entry]

Tough life

So after feeling a little down due to Lyndsey and Helens departure we pulled ourselves together and planned the next leg of our Thailand adventure towards Kanchanaburi. We flagged a taxi and asked him to take us to Thanburi train station, we ended up at the wrong station but soon got directions from a tuk tuk driver and were on our way to the real station. i was stressing out as we didnt leave early enough and the minutes were ticking away. We arrived at the station at with 3 minutes to spare. Craig paid the driver whilst i ran to [View Full Entry]

It's October holidays for most International Schools in Bangkok, and Leslie has a week off too. So we continue our little round of "Discovery Thailand". Not really my first visit to Hua Hin, as the last time I came here was 5 years ago. We did not plan one thing, from 23rd to 25th October, Hua Hin is going to host the 15th Asean Summit, you know, the same one that had to be canceled in April in Pattaya due to heavy demonstrations. This time, the Thai government did not do things half-way...as they have deployed 36,000 security forces in the [View Full Entry]

The day which we had been eagerly anticipating had finally come and it was tough to hide the gleeful smile on my face as I looked forward to our stay in Thailand. The trip was supposed to provide some respite after months in NS and also marked the beginning of the end of our National Service stint. With me, Jordan, Luke and Mark made up the Gang of Four. We had decided to visit Kanchanaburi and the nations capital, Bangkok. Possessing a keen interest in history, we chose Kanchanaburi due to the areas significance in World War Two when thousands of [View Full Entry]
