From Ayutthaya, I took a minivan to Kanchanaburi, the city that was made famous because of the movie The Bridge On The River Kwai. I was visiting for more than the bridge, my main aim was to visit the Erawan Falls. A 7 level waterfall with emerald green waters, this is named after Airavat, the Elephant that Lord Indra in Hindu mythology rides. A 1.5 hour bus ride each way from Kanchanburi and a 45 minute hike upto the 7th level are completely worth the experience, especially given that you can just jump into the pools and cool down. Visiting the Burma Railway and the bridge was a must do and I did go and see them, though it's a somber experience, if you remember that nearly half the prisoners of war who built this died ... read more

Phetchaburi was always on our list for this trip, and a few days there got us back on schedule just in time to head back to the capital and get ready to leave Thailand! Thanks to the likes of bucketlistblog we had an idea what the town had to offer. Have to say though, we were very impressed and glad we decided to stay for three nights. This is the sort of place that backpackers would have been seeking out years ago but right now foreign visitors are few and far between. It's a real shame as it does dampen the atmosphere somewhat, but we still had a great time. We stayed at the Bosston Hotel which, when we first arrived, seemed to be so far out of town we were a bit disappointed. It's a ... read more

Hua Hin was a good place to stop after six hours on a bus. We've been there before and it wasn't our favourite destination, but even in this situation we try to make the best of it and find interesting things to do. We stayed at the url=https://www.booking.com/hotel/th/prinz-garden-villa.en-gb.html?group_adults=2&dest_type=city&srepoch=1664551800&group_children=0&label=prinz-garden-villa-Zg7CS24I*6pZEdmAr8pupgS442493366395%3Apl%3Ata%3Ap1%3Ap2%3Aac%3Aap%3Aneg%3Afi%3Atikwd-20363488953%3Alp1007072%3Ali%3Adec%3Adm%3Appccp%3DUmFuZG9tSVYkc2RlIyh9YUNMGHk8cZwok9XGezONs4c&hapos=1&sr_order=popularity&gclid=CjwKCAjwp9qZBhBkEiwAsYFsbwxhV53hn7Z_Y2EIbBXgc1ERMF2Tv8OxY0AkT9fyyiYgcJAIvN9pkBoCCsYQAvD_BwE&aid=311076&from_beach_sr=1&from=searchresults&auth_success=1&req_adults=2&dest_id=-3248049&hpos=1&beach_sr_walking_distance=434&sid=7fdad380568b14c5bbe1480730065477&req_children=0&ucfs=1&no_rooms=1&srpvi... read more

Our plan for today is to take it a little bit easier. We're starting to wind down towards the end of our trip and it's time to relax a little. Not too much, mind you! So, today we head south, to the beach at Hua Hin. After breakfast (which was served to our room) we headed out towards the Khao Ngu Stone Park. It looks very impressive in the pictures, and it was pretty, but we both felt the pictures oversold it. But as we were approaching the site there were several monkeys on the roadside! Of course we had to stop and take pictures, and a couple of the critters came up to the car! As I rolled the window down to take a picture, one of them came closer and prepared to jump in! ... read more

Today was intended to be a relaxing day (relatively speaking). We're going to spend the day in this area, and sleep in town another night. But not in this hotel. The breakfast served here is bad, the coffee worse, and the room is just too gloomy. So we reserved a room at the Water Park Hotel Kanchanaburi as it had good reviews and price. More on that later... We went for a walk to the famous bridge over the river Kwai, walked across it and took some selfies. We sat on the grass under the bridge and read a bit about it, and found that not only is the name a misnomer, but it's mispronounced as well! The bridge spans a river of a different name that, together with the Khwae Noi rover flows into the Mae ... read more

We are fresh and well rested, and had a good night's sleep. Even the gecko didn't bother us. There were a couple things we wanted to see in Uthai Thani before we moved on. We started with the Crystal Temple, Wat Tha Sung. We wanted to see the thing the town is most famous for - the floating houses first, but we couldn't find them, and people around there didn't understand what we wanted. So we started with the temple. I know I've said that we were all 'Watted out', and I stand by that, but the Wat Tha Sung is special. It isn't super ancient or important, but instead of covering everything in gold like most other temples, this one has a huge main hall with lots of pillars and a Buddha and shrine at ... read more

Today wasn't our best day yet. As I mentioned yesterday, we arrived by night bus (not recommended!) in Bangkok at 5:00AM, and were immediately mobbed by taxi drivers. After some harsh bargaining we got one to take us to the airport for 700 baht (about 70 NIS, or $22, more or less) instead of 1,200, and we paid the 25 for the toll road. When we got there he tried to get 800 from us. We stood fast. Then he didn't have change. We found someone who did and saw his back fast! We found the rental agency (it was open and the rep was there). After some paperwork we got our car for the next week, and sat down for some very much needed coffee! It was getting light now, and we headed on our ... read more

The sun rose behind the hills at the southern tip of the bay as we enjoyed our breakfast at the privacy beach resort near Khao Sam roi Yot national park. Our guide Pi Golf arrived just before 8am and we were on our bikes and cycling south along the coast by 8:15. The sea was calm and a light breeze cooled us as we headed into the park. We were greeted by buffaloes then monkeys and steep limestone cliffs predominant throughout the park there were lakes, palm trees and wonderful views. Stopping off at a beautiful temple by the sea we were schooled in the role of the Naga protecting the Buddha and how this snake connects the land with the heavens. We had cycled 65km before we stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant where ... read more

Tu som urobil chybu so zamienanim penez. Som zamenil malo resp bolo to dost na prezitie ale clovek si nemohol dovolit nic extra. Inak thajsko mi nema co ponuknut, i ked v kanchanaburi mi odporucali navstivit malo turisticky (?) Ubon Ratchathani. BANGKOK Tu som pobudol len kvoli zubarovi. Toto mesto neni pre mna nic extra. Z novych veci som navstivil akurat Benchakiti Park. Ten je fajn na relax. Ubytko Central guesthouse - dvojpostel, fan, share kupelka. Oproti minulajsku tu vyrastlo dost barov a nobl ... read more

V noci zobudenie na silny dazd, ktory pokracoval aj rano. Ranajky teda v restike, ktora otvarala az od 10.00. Dal som si ryzovu polievku so shrimy. Fakt zadny respekt. Za cintorinom kupujem kusok kurata, to mi nasekali, dali omacku a malu ryzu. To zjedenie v prijemnom prostredi ubytka. Tak nakonec je vsetko po starom a da sa ist aj k rieke a na fajn ... read more
