Today we went to the Karen Hill tribe to do some volunteer work redecorating their class rooms. Me Charlotte nat and sarah chose to do our room in pale blue and underwater themed! so we got to work, then nat got bored and decided to attack the back of my leg with paint... the war began. we decided to atttack the green room with our blue paint so loaded up and went an rollered their walls, adam was shouting nooo its wet paint its wet paint but this just fuelled us more. we were expected a bit of retalliation and were quite dissapointed with the lack of it! so we went back to attacking each other, by the end of the day we were covered head to toe in paint! nat just gave up in the ... read more

Today we woke up with a bit of a headache and vowed never to drink whiskey again (well at least till the full moon party!). So we headed down to the lake (with all of our bikinis this time!) and had a little swim out to the raft in the lake. Nice easy start! We then had dinner at Toy and were carted off to the festival on the Mon tribe side of the lake..... in the back of eddies car. His car is an absolute death trap! He overtakes any car going under 60 miles an hour and the bars on the side of his truck kept falling off, bearing in mind there was about 15 of us crammed into the back of his pick-up truck (the only way to travel in thailand) many toes ... read more

Today we had a sneaky lay in then trekked to the kayak/ canoe factory to look at the beautiful boats being made. He gave us all this intersting information about the wood and history of canoees. Unfortunatley, I dint hear any of this because steph was chatting away to micheal ALL THE TIME. But Caz informs me that thai people dont like to ride in the canoes because the factory use a sacred tree for the top of it, naughty naughty canoe maker! (he is canadian and deffos has a thai bride) So we got out in the canoe, even though we were supposed to be kayaking, but there was only one kayak between the 26 of us so we thought canoeing would probably be better. Steph went in the back, which is the steering postition ... read more

Alrighty, upon my return to Thailand I had one more day in Bangkok, primarily to allow me to post home all the outsize and unwieldy souvenirs I had purchased in Myanmar. This done in remarkably good time I headed out to indulge in more of the fantastic street food which is on offer everywhere. Tummy bulging, but unable to resist buying everything I saw, I took refuge in a nearby massage parlour (with no food in view). This one had a slight twist though, the massage was performed by fish! Having cleaned my feet I tentatively placed them into the water. This took nerves of steel let me tell you, the massage almost began before my feet even hit the water as the fish were practically jumping out of the water to get at them. It ... read more

So yesterday the first incident took place! One of our friends was leaving so we had a little goodbye 'party' and in the end we joined her at her place. Just after we left we decided to pay another visit very near and just sfter we arrived one of our friends got a phone call from a girl we had seen a minute ago saying that there is someone outside her door knocking and trying to get in! We took your lovely bike with a side car and we drove quicky to her place. So here I am back. Few days ago I tried to download those pics which you couldn’t see-just a black space, but it did not work again. I will not give up so sooner or later you will see those;-) Since I have been back in Sangkhlaburi and I had found out Tom (our coordinator) was not coming back to Thailand caused by malaria I have been all that time at the project. Everything is going well. I have done the malaria test also (just in case) and the result was negative, hope as long as possible-touch wood. Because all this ‘surprises’ I decided to leave the project earlier as I do not want to be alone over there (another volunteer Nela who I am staying with now is leaving also for just few months). Thailand is an interesting place, which goes from opposite extremes in every sense! When walking the streets of Bangkok, the only place to look is down at the floor as you dodge open manholes, pot holes, 2 foot high curbs, whilst listening out for the motorbikes using the pavement as a footpath. However in the same city, cross the yellow line on the skytrain platform and receive a ticking off from a guard! The roads are something else... lanes change direction with no common sense, right of way is determined by nerves and size (therefore pedestrians are lowest of all priority)! After Bangkok, we spent a few days in Kanchanburi - home of the bridge over the River Kwai - which means tourism - lots of english bars and cafes where you can get full english ... read more
