To my family, friends and all others who follow me on my adventures, I am sorry I’ve disappeared for the last six weeks. Life has been a mix real life and running around the playground that is the in-between of childhood and adulthood. I will focus this entry on my time spent on the merry-go-round of life. The first week in December was the King of Thailand’s birthday. He turned 82 and is the oldest living monarch in the world. Needless to say it was a big deal in Thailand. There was a huge assembly at the high school with everyone wearing pink shirts (the King’s favorite color). I attended wearing a new pink polo and a black skirt. I had forgotten that my students had never seen me in anything other than my uniform (black ... read more

After our flying visit through Vietnam, back we went to Thailand. We landed in Phuket and headed to a small beach resort called Karon Beach, where we were staying for a few nights. Even though we could've been anywhere, on any beach resort, it felt good to be back in a civilised place. It was pretty quiet there, perfect for some much needed chill time on the beach :) Our first challenge was to buy some beach towels and not get ripped off, which sure is a challenge in Thailand. Our bartering skills were pretty spesh by this point, so we got them down to half the price the guy wanted - happy days. Off we went to the beach, thinking that our towels would be a super investment as we could lay on them and ... read more

I crossed into Thailand on the 6th, and was looking forward to all that I had heard from so many different and varied travelers. Thailand seemed to have a lot to offer, from tropical islands dotted throughout the south to the bustling metropolis that is Bangkok to the rugged northern jungles and hills. I would be very much on the beaten path, but I was expecting as much. Thailand seemed to be a haven for backpackers and as such a massive tourist boom has happened, especially in the last ten to fifteen years. Known as Siam till 1939, it was the only country in south East Asia to not be colonized by a European power. Throughout my journeys to previous countries on this trip there has always been certain influences I've noticed from past conquerors. In ... read more

(Sat writing this as a little dog yaps its head off in what sounds like an empty warehouse. . . . .grrr) Thought it was time to make a bit of a move from the paradise that was Ao Mae, before I slipped into a compleat trance and stayed there forever. It really was a perfect place to stay!! Recommended!! The Staff in the resturant were super friendly, Burma they were from. Infact I think the whole resort was run by Burmese, they really do go out of their way to do anything to help you out. The menu was amazing and everything was so fresh, Il definatly be sure to head there again after a full moon party. (The Island View Cabana incase you havent read my other blog) So the morning came for me ... read more

I collected all my things together from my two week home and headed over the the reception area to hand back the key. Sat waiting for the bus to arrive I searched the pages in my guide looking for info on where to go. The day Im leaving and still not knowing where to, ha, but its now starting to feel like the norm. Get on the bus, board the boat and see where the best spot are from you’re new found map, all in one big swoop when you get there or on the way. Got talking to two Ozi guys on the coach to the port/peir. They had been staying in a 5 star hotel that they booked from home but was so far away from the beach they had the worst time ever. ... read more

Thursday December 9th Hello from Thailand! It’s been a while since our last post, our apologies but we’ve been constantly on the move. We’ve left beautiful Indonesia behind, had an overnight stay in Singapore, spent a couple days in Kuala Lumpur and have now touched down in Hat Yai, Thailand. Phew…. We both were looking forward to Thailand as being one of the highlights of our trip so needless to say it feels great to be here. The only bummer is when we went through Immigration, we were given a 15 day tourist visa instead of a 30 day pass as expected. This won’t cause any problems, just an extra “visa run” into Burma (another stamp!) and we’ll be fine….. Lets backtrack a bit. Singapore is a massive, modern, clean metropolis. I wish we had a ... read more

Out of Bangkok and headed south. As the days have gone along. . .I have felt myself become more and more settled. The heat doesn’t feel as intense, the very late nights don’t bother me the next day and Im finally getting used to the way . . .. . . . . . . . . . . “how people are.” That said, I had seen enough of Bangkok for now and was ready to make a move. Still holding a little grin at what I had seen at the Grand Pallace I headed to the travel bookings desk to plan my exit. Aprahensive at first. . . .I still wasn’t to sure where I actually wanted to head to and definatly didn’t want to miss anything out. So. . . .the first cluster of ... read more
