From the forests and mountains of Chiang Mai we headed for the islands and beaches of the south of Thailand. We took the overnight train back to Bangkok, then another train to Cha am. This is supposed to be where Bangkokians go for the beach. However, it was pretty dead. I took no photos here, which I guess says it all. We stayed a few nights here before catching the train to Hua Hin and a connection to Surat Thani. We had to wait several hours in Hua Hin, which wasn't so bad as it must be the prettiest train station ever. In fact Thai train stations are generally very well presented and the trains are an enjoyable experience. We had a lovely German breakfast in Hua Hin with real coffee and cold meats. We stayed ... read more

Morning before the fullmoon: So I wake up and decide to go visit the guys at the other bungalow which is about a good 10 minute scooter ride.  They were still sleeping and katie wasn't around to do a mushroom shake with me, apparently she has just gotten to bed at 9AM b/c they did it last night.  So I leave and thought maybe I should get a thai/facial massage, it's bloody hot and I got dick all to do.  I find a place, call house of healing and walk in and the masseuse is picking her nose, like full finger in.  It was pretty nasty so I decided against it and went back to my bike and I probably was still abit traumatized from the nose picking incident b/c I forgot to put my bike ... read more

It was hard leaving Koh Phi Phi, this place was absolutely beautiful.  Met some friends along the way, like Lay the local tour guide who was just awesome to us.  Toke us in like family and just showed us the rope.  This guy is one hardcore dude - ex military and ex kickboxer, he was standing on the corel like it was a bed of cotton.  I don't remember much of the daytime in Koh Phi Phi since I pretty much got wasted every single night there except on the last day.  My most memoriable moment was trying to make it to the cave, trying to swim through choppy water at 6PM still banged up from 3 days of partying.  Not smart as I was struggling to get back on the raft and barely had enough energy ... read more

Last night me and SQL Dan moved out of the Great Bay Resort and made our way to Primada Inn.  This place is so much cleaner then the place we had.  It felt like a zoo in our last bungalow with big gekko's and frogs visitting us throughout the night.  We finally feel at ease not being eaten alive or some bigger creatures coming by and decide to kick some ass.  We must of been a big retard trying to walk from the Great Bay to Primada b/c it was a good 45 minute trek and I had so much gear on my back.  Finally gave up and a taxi bus stopped to pick us up, these buses only run every hour so if you miss it you're abit screwed. Well we got on and the ... read more

A short boat ride away was my island retreat of Ko Pha Ngan, I spent a week here doing.....well, not very much. Thoroughly enjoyed the luxury of a beautiful hut right on a private beach, hammocks, veranda, the full works. All for the equivalent of £5 a night! One day was spent on An Thong National Park, sea kayaking, walking to the lake in the mountains, swimming and snorkelling. I even saw a wild monkey up a palm tree. So different to Scotland.... read more

The majority of the time I spent in Ko Pa-Ngan it rained and left me feeling depressed and really homesick. Coupled with the fact that there were only really people on holiday where I stayed I met very few people. My room was also a dump, with graffitti on the walls from former guests. Here is a taste : If I were an animal, somebody would have shot me to put me out of my misery - This Bungalow Many people enjoy Ko Pa-Ngan for the party atmosphere but I wasn't feeling in the mood for anything much, so I left. ... read more

Yes, that is Jesse checking out the island scenery. Snapped. We are in Koh Phangan. It is the stereotypical beach paradise. White sand, blue water, hammocks between coconut trees... horrible place. The full moon party is tomorrow and the place is packed with westerners. There are some beautiful people (read girls) here, my god (nothing like you though Trace...). Not a very cultural experience, but oh well. My trip to Kanchanaburi was very cool. There is new museum about the death railway, which was first class. Saw the bridge on the river Kwai. Stayed on a floating guesthouse and sat around with the others on the trip and got "Chang-ed". Chang beer is about $1.50 for a big bottle at the service station or 7/11 and is 6.4% Alc/vol, brilliant. Floated down the river on a ... read more

We got the boat across and found a nice place to stay on the quiet side of Hat Rin - the party beach. After a few days there I decided that I would rather be in Phoenix with Kristen than hang out at this huge party with all these stunningly beautiful people getting loaded. What is the point in travelling and having all this freedom if you don't do what you want to do? ... read more
