Yesterday we decided to hike from Haad Yuan (our beach) to Haad Rin. The hike was supposed to take 90 minutes, but it took us 2 and a half hours! The lookout point along the way made it worth it, though. Here's some pics.... read more

Well, just wanted to leave a quick note saying to check the galleries for some new pics... there is one of a crraaaaazzzzy veiwpoint hike that we did a couple hours ago..... it took us 3 hours to get over this mountain, but the view was totally worth it! Now we are off to grab a pizza and a movie in one of the bars around Haad Rin. Well, take care and keep checking back! Love, Raylene... read more

Here it is the famous full moon party. Too tacky for me i'm afraid. Keep in mind i am 28 so i guess i am past it. All the drum & bass and trance music kind of did my head in. It was cool to be on the beach amongst 1000's of others and fire dancers, buckets of whiskey red bull and coke (the mother of all hangovers!!). This place is absolutely buzzing during full moon week. I got so sick of it its unreal. In the day time you can see the damage to the island the thousands of beer bottles, plastic bottles, broken glass, it just had a disgusting abused scummy feel to the place, discarded chicken, meat kebabs on the street, sick looking dogs with one eye missing limbs. I think this place ... read more

Mmmmmmmmm. Well the Full Moon party last night turned out to be pretty awesome. Way busier then I could have expected. It was also the 20th Anniversary of the original full moon party. Well at least that's how they were marketing it. At about 10PM we started painting each other with some glowy paint that we'd picked up, and then at Midnight we headed down to the beach. The entire beach was full of people. Most nights that I've seen the beach you have a few large groups of people in front of clubs watching the fire dancers. But for the party it was just people as far as you could see. We walked along the beach a bit at the beggining of the evening just to see the different clubs and different atmospheres. There was ... read more

Alrighty, I haven't updated this blog in ahwile as not too much has happened. The majority of the past week has been spent eating, lying on the beach, reading on the beach, or playing frisbee on the beach. It's been relaxing, but it also becomes tedious at times. But still, it's much better then rainy vancouver, so I really shouldn't be complaining. Most of the restaurants in Haad Rin play movies all throughout the day, so you can go get a meal, or just a drink, and sit and watch a movie. We've seen quite a few this past week. We've seen Hitch, Constantine, Old School, Zoolander, The Ring 2, The Beach and maybe one or two more, I can't quite remember. It's pretty awesome that you can order a 20 bhat drink and stay and ... read more

Koh Pha-Ngan, home to the infamous Full Moon Party, an event of pestilence and pollution I plan to never ever attend, has turned out to be the most pleasant surprise of my travels in Thailand. Pha-Ngan is beautiful. My photos are crap - the colours are so pathetic - but it really is beautiful. I had assumed that it was just a party island, but I was happily mistaken. Pha-Ngan was a very welcome change from Samui - much smaller and quieter than Samui, and the beaches are actually gorgeous, while the main beach is craaaaap at Samui. Pha-Ngan has all these gorgeous big grey boulders and rocky areas, interspersed with and covered by trees, plus all the beaches have the obligatory palm trees. Ahhh... it was wonderful. I stayed the first night at the main ... read more

We didn't get up to too much before heading to Koh Phangan yesterday. We did, however, book a room and a diving course for when we return to Koh Tao. We'll be staying at Ban's Diving Resort on Sairee beach. The price for the Open Water Diving Certification is pretty much 8500bhat anywhere you go. But at this Ban's place we also get rooms for only 200bhat, with a bathroom. So that's pretty decent. We'll be returning to Koh Tao on the 25th and starting our diving course on the 26th. It should be pretty fun and I'm definitly looking forward to it. The weather took a turn for the worst yesterday and we saw our first real bit of rain. It rained a few times while we were in Koh Tao, and it rained while ... read more

Our life.... Well we have officially spent the last few days beaching it. Quite litterally we hung in hammocks, waded in the ocean, walked the beach. Ahhh what a life. We survived the sporatic electricity and have been trying to keep our body temperature down from overheating. It is quite funny, because we plan our sleeping around when the electricity is turned on so that we can go in our room and hover over the air conditioning. I think that is about as complicated as life is right now. The only update I have is our rave experience. We started off the night by having a few more drinks then needed prepping ourselves to what we were about to experience. We found out that the Half Moon rave is not on the beach but in the ... read more
