I took the motocyc out tonight…the cool wind on my sticky skin felt real…its seems as though I have been in hibernation since I left. It’s almost unfair that I have had this experience because I know I will have to pretend it isn’t real one day and return to the limits of my own culture and country….but still having had these experiences make my life real. I saw the most beautiful image today. Three pairs of brown legs smooshed together on a swing…there is such a closeness here, one that still takes my breath away when I see the warmth in it. A little one sleeping across a safe lap in the middle of a restaurant, little ones gathered around an adult on the tiled terrace away from the sun, two year old fingers ... read more

It’s just after 7am. The sun isn’t baking the world yet, but it’s our first night that seems to be a little bit on schedule. Today will be a better day. It’s been a challenge with Miles. He’s not as “frightened” of the world this time and as a result is bolder and more his usual self. It’s almost as if he is saying, “I survived last time!, What’s the big deal this time?!” I am spending extra effort keeping my eyes on him. I am eating too much, I am sleeping too little and I am crying a WHOLE lot. I think I’m just in a more fragile state this trip, given what I left behind. BUT, we have sorted out our home, managed to locate a few options for the motocyc for the duration ... read more

Some people say I create chaos around me everywhere I go…I don’t deny this. I actually LIKE those about me. It keeps things interesting. So far the chaos that has followed me has included my flight itinerary being wrong and boarding a flight that wasn’t mine, landing in Japan during a Typhoon, (see pictures) and having Miles nearly end up in the hotel fountain…so far this trip is off to a good start! We are waiting for our connector to Phuket and from there will make our way up the peninsula to Phang Nga. We should be settled soon. I hope to get the motocyc by tonight and be able to plan for the journey to the orphanage tomorrow. Can’t wait! So we are all safe and sound, having no troubles with the heat this time ... read more

So I left Phuket behind, and took a tour up toward the northern end of the Bay, to James Bond Island. Made famous in the film "The Man with the Golden Gun". On the way back from the island, our longtail boat stopped at a floating city. The entire city is Muslim, and it was quite the experience to see how these people manage to live on a floating platform next to a limestone spire.... read more

Start our day a bit late, around 9.30 am. Found a place for breakfast, only 50 meters from our rented apartment. I was so excited when heard the stall sell laksa, my favourite food in the whole world. Turn out it's not the real mccoy. It was basically a plump up version of mee hoon, with yellow laksam kuah. yeah, what do you expect when you go to another country, it’s not the same as ours, rite! thank God the tom yam version is the same, only yummier! My sis had rice porridge, which we likened to bubur ayam McD "I’m lovin’ it", while ina & izan eat nasi biryani with a weird looking ayam goreng. After our stomach full, still had time to transfer pic of yesterday's outing from my camera to thumb drive before ... read more

Well hello once again. This latest installment takes us from Koh Tao on to Koh Phangan, then to Phuket via Surat Thani, Phang-nga and finally Krabi. Quite a lot of travelling in the last week or so, firstly we took the boat to Koh Phangan the morning after our last blog. We decided that we would head for the north of the island to a place called Hat Khuat, or Bottle Beach to the farang. It sounded a bit more chilled out than Hat Rin where all the partying is. The only way to reach Bottle Beach is by boat, so we took a taxi up to Chakara-something and then hired a long tail boat for 100baht each. Bottle beach is a bay about 800m long which has three bungalow hotels along the beach front ... read more

An early start - picked up to drive to the port to get a longtail boat to where we met a larger boat for a trip around the islands of Phang Nga Bay. Had a varied trip of exploring some islands on foot, some by canoe with some crazy paddlers who kept us well entertained. We explored caves by canoes, mangroves etc. Visited four islands in all - James Bond Island, Panak Island, Hong Island and Tam Talu. After lunch and a bit of swimming our last stop was to a fishing village of Koh Payni. This was a Muslin village set on stilts which was fascinating, had a look around and ended up purchasing some goods after being nabbed in the market. A really excellent tour with great staff who made it the more enjoyable. ... read more

Well after the ferry ride across to ko phangan we then got a long boat taxi to haan yoa on the west coast of the island. The long boat was a bit more expensive but it was worth it to get a view of the island. Just from the look I knew I preferred ko phangan to ko samui. The beaches were perfect white with crystal clear waters and in many places coral reefs. We had rang ahead to the ibiza beach hut resort to make sure qwe had reservations. When the long boat dropped us off he pointed to the top of the beach. We must have looked quite amusing and perhaps very bedraggled as people kept asking us if we were okay. We walked the length of the bech twice in the blistering heat ... read more

Jan 29, we left Hua Hin on the overnight bus to Phang Nga, famous for the James Bond Island. We got there at 6 am in the morning, on Jan 30. The bus driver did not alert us to get off. Gary did not sleep through the night and asked the driver where we are and realized we have reached Phang Nga. If we did not get off the bus, we would have ended up in Phuket. Phang Nga is a very sleepy town, with a few guesthouses, a few restaurants on the main road. There are residences around town, which tourists do not normally get to. We took a walk and toured a dragon cave, with some aweful looking figurines depicting hell. On Jan 31, we took a half day boat tour to see Phang ... read more

Rushed breakfast before heading just up the road to the Mt travel agency for the pick-up for our day trip around the Ao Phang Nga Marine National Park. With a dutch couple we headed off in the pick-up truck to the jetty about 8km south. We boarded the long-tail boat and were joined by two Danish ladies. With our guide and the pilot there were 8 in the boat. Reassured to see a lifejacket available on each seat - although so hot that none of us donned them. Tob be completed ... read more
