Final installment of video and blog. It has been an amazing time. Thanks for joining us!! http://www.youtube.com/user/MattSeanConnor#p/a/u/0/6eYuXc1-SIY The journey from Siem Reap, Cambodia to Koh Chang, Thailand was meant to be an 8 hour journey including a 4 hour bus ride, an hour at the border, another 2 hours on a mini bus and then the ferry. Reality was that it was a 13-hour, scorching hot, mystery tour and ended up with us barely catching the last ferry to Koh Chang and then being overcharged by the taxi drivers on the other end because we were their last ride into town (and we really didn’t have an option by then). The long story is that the first big bus (fairly comfortable) stopped every hour for 20 minutes so that people had to get off and buy ... read more

Greetings and salutations! Another day in sunny/stormy Koh Chang! Another day with a motorcycle! Aleko and I ventured out, with the morning light (after having consumed adequate quantities of cornflakes and yogurt, from our hotel room stash), to explore the eastern coast of the island. Passing through Bailan, Lonely Beach, where we had stayed previously, and then on to Pearl Beach, and White Sands - all of which have misleading names during monsoon season (there being very little beach, and none of which is "white" or gives the appearance of a "pearl"), we stopped briefly, to confirm our seats back to Bangkok tomorrow, and the ferry ride to the mainland, also. Once fully booked, we ventured onwards. The ferry port, where we arrived, is at the Northern-most tip of the island, and so anything further than ... read more

Good day to you all! I am writing as a sleepy wreck, from last night's typhoon adventures. As you may recall.... or not (can't remember if I mentioned this is my previous entry), we were booked to stay in a guesthouse on stilts above the water, last night. If you can google Bang Bao, it is a fishing village, much of which is built off of a pier, above the water. Our guesthouse was nearer the end of the pier,t han the beginning. Very quaint - like being aboard an old-fashioned boat. All wood and seashell decorations, with a door that led directly out onto the water (for no particular reason). So... yesterday, was a delightful introduction to Thailand's monsoon. All rain, and overcast skies. We were on a money-saving lark, having discovered really how weak ... read more

Greetings! Just time for a quick journal entry. I wanted to get this set up, to make sure it was easy to add to, when I get the opportunity. So far, all is well. We landed in Bangkok, some days ago (we have been losing track of time); stayed in a quaint guesthouse - our room had a panoramic window, looking out to the jungly garden. It was fantastic to wake up, seeing only green, from where I lay. However, some days have passed since we arrived, and I feel it only right to fill you in on the main points. Bangkok - very noisy, polluted, and full of tw*tpackers... *ahem* BACKpackers. Sorry, it had been so long since I caught the sneering gaze of a holier-than-thou, dreadlocked, nose-pierced, individual... you can almost hear their disbelief ... read more

Todays the final day of the trip and we've been sunning it up in Thailand on Koh Chang, an island near Cambodia for a couple of weeks. The original plan after Vietnam was to travel through Laos, and we even had flights booked for a final sojourn into Burma, but a million landslides and a visa rejection put paid to those ideas, which, to be honest, we're secretly happy about as it means we can just dump the bag and forget about everything So we ended up flying from Hanoi to Bangkok, where we spent a few days enjoying the city, eating loads of pad thai, seeing a few sights, buying cheap clothes and drinking too much. Then a short bus journey took us to Kanchanaburi, site of the film "The Bridge over the River Kwai". ... read more

After an exciting few days in Bangkok, it was time to escape the stifling heat and hit the beach! Because of the "inclement weather" and floods in the Southern islands, we had to fiddle with our initial plan and the best option turned out to be Koh Chang (Elephant Island) in the Eastern Gulf of Thailand, near Cambodia. The bus ride felt like quite a novelty and a luxurious one at that - plenty of leg room, comfy seats, AC and even a film! No honking and rather frustratingly a lot slower than Indian buses... Anyway, it did eventually get us to Trat where we hopped on a ferry then a sawngthaew (pick-up taxi) which took us to the lovely Lonely Beach. For those of you who don't know, this week was the time to celebrate ... read more

The first rule of SE Asia is that YOU have to adapt to SE Asia, SE Asia does not adapt to YOU. This is why planning anything other than your flight in and your flight out is futile. This is a lesson I seem to learn every time I come out here, only to forget it as soon as my plane touches down on US soil. After 24 hours of travel, we were sitting on Khao San Rd...it was 1am and we were enjoying our green curry and jug of Singha much more than the bad techno music blasting out of every corner of Bangkok's famous strip. People watching through the reflection of Jamie's amazed eyes, I noticed a guy with a T-Shirt that said 'Losers Plan It'...it was a play on the Lonely Planet logo ... read more

I seem to have something about me on over night buses in Thailand, last year when I returned to Bangkok from Koh Phangyan I was sat next to an Israeli guy who when we stopped at 2am for food ! (Don’t ask Thai buses are crazy) he told me he had been watching me sleep and had to resites from kissing me… WEIRDO! So this year as I sat next to a young gap year boy from England, I thought no problem... Well little did I know that this horny little mite would wake we up every so often with a soft stroking of me\y arms and hands, each time I would pull the exposed part of my body under my sleeping bag and ‘roll’ as much as one can in a sleeper bus over... It ... read more

So after a few days in Bangkok, we all headed out to Koh Chang for a few days. It happened to co-incide with my Birthday, so a few buckets may have been had. Our wonderful friend Steve sprung for a night for us in a 4Star Hotel and we found ourselves staying there for 4 or 5 days. Its hard to say no to a little luxury after so many hard beds! Not to mention the 2 pools connected with a granite slip-in-slide!... read more
