Gunseverson - Gunnar & Joanna: Tales from the road, 2008

As most of you know we hit the road for 10 months of travel on september 15, 2008 shamelessly stealing Gord & Jamie's Wasaga Beach wedding as a send off! We will start in South-East Asia, moving to India, Middle East, and then the Himalayas of Nepal and Tibet. That is the rough plan that will no doubt change a few times. Nothing but time and travel.

Yes we left the beautiful Mediterranean coast for snow? What the hell? Got off our bus to a snowstorm! It was 25 degrees Celsius 2 days ago? WTF? Oh well we soon warmed up in our hotel which turned out to be a cave carved into one of the huge chimney looking things from the Flintstones! Actually quite warm inside out of the snow! Next day we jumped on a tour as some of the stuff to see was further away then expected. Had great views of the Goreme Valley before we hit up the Underground City. Little known but there [View Full Entry]

Actually this was outside of Fethiye, not Kas.
Oh Kas (Kash) I loved you so much! A beautiful Mediterranean Coastal town with Greece in the backdrop. Had a room here overlooking bay with incredible views. Walked through town and found a theatre just sitting there in the hill. Came down the other side and found a big market. So once again bought more olives and cheese and veggies to go with the excellent red wine! Should have stayed here longer! [View Full Entry]

The beautiful Aegean coastal town of Fethiye on our next stop. Warm weather and cheap wine, even found a pension that gave us a full kitchen to cook in, excellent! Went to the market and bought like 8 kg of fruits and veggies! [View Full Entry]

The boat sunk wıth all ıts cargo and now ıs a world class wreck dıve. Some of the cargo ıncludes 2 steam locomotıve ngınes on theır way to Egypt. Many trucks and motorbıkes, rıfles lıke the .303, ammunıtıon for all the guns, and even 2 tanks. One of the Seven Wonders of the World for a reason! Wow!! Took 2 days here to see it all and I'd recommend a third actually! Site is huge. Ok so we got an early start and did the walk in through the 1.2 km Siq (a huge canyon formed by the Earth) that ends at The Treasury or Al-Khazneh. If you have ever seen pictures of Petra, you have seen The Treasury! What a beautiful sight! Did hike up to the High Places of Sacrifice with views of valley. Came down the other side into another valley, passing carvings, tombs [View Full Entry]

Jo bobbıng lıke a cork!
Started our day with a Second Cup coffee! Hell yeh, been a while! Even had a Canada flag in the window. Made our way out of Amman, bound for Mt Nebo. Holy place where Christians believe Moses is said to have seen the promised land. He then died there at age 120. Old guy! He was buried here and churches were built on top of the hill. Totally cloudy, windy, and hazy so could not see a thing. Apparently you can see all the way to Jerusalem. Also went on to River Jordan and Bethany Beyond The Jordan. That means it [View Full Entry]
