Day 20. Well what can I say?......woke up to another gorgeous day, unfortunately our last full day on the island. We must say farewell to Koh Chang, tomorrow, and start the long journey home..........but not yet!!!!! Today was another day of lazing and relaxing with a little excursion for some, reading and swimming for others. Returned to Blue's Blue's for our GALA lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it again. Tempura "whatever" was the dish of the day accompanied by papaya salad and/or fried rice, also "the best" Thai green curry and delicious Barracuda. Now back at the villa and doing much the same as this morning, relaxing, swimming and ,of course, blogging; sat here typing and gazing out on that fabulous vista we have so often shown on previous blogs, temperature 33C at 17-40 pm, beer in ... read more

Day 19. This morning we spotted a beautiful kingfisher in the trees, see photo, followed by a frog falling out of the folds of a sun parasol. It must be a climber to get up the pole, but why it wanted to sleep in a parasol is anybody's guess. After breakfast a splinter group set off to find the village fishing port. Down by the temple (wat) we found a cluster of buildings on stilts either side of a concrete jetty leading to the fishing fleet which was all in port as night fishing is the norm. A few inhabitants were mending and coiling their nets, but no fish to be bought. Lunch today was at Saffron on the sea, several whole fish being served with a glass of sauvignon blanc or beer. Returning home we ... read more

Day 18. Here we are, yet another day in paradise and the sun's still shining. Not planned to do a great deal today except to visit a restaurant that someone had recommended in the visitor's book in the villa so it was a leisurely breakfast then swim and read (kindles everywhere) and sunbathe. One faction decided they would go for a walk and others decided they were mad as it was about 30 c at the time. While they were away an old friend paid us a visit and made itself at home, it's a dog's life. The restaurant, Blue's Blue's, was superb: typical Thai style, with a hint of the Orient, outdoors, under the trees, a bit shacky (made that up but you know what I mean) and the food was fabulous, fish, shrimp, veg, rice ... read more

Day 17. A relaxed start for the team today followed by a 10:15 departure to meet our speedboat at Chai Chet to take us on a short ride to Koh Rom (island) which has great significance for Norman & Hazel as this was Bens favourite place and where two years ago they scattered his ashes. On arrival the anchor was dropped and Hazel swam with Ben. Flower petals were showered on the water. A few reflective moments were spent on the boat. Restarting the V6 we sped off to circle the adjacent islands before returning to the quay by 11:45. A team decision was made by someone to retun to the shopping jetty at Ban Bang Bao where we lunched on the largest king prawns 'in the world' at 3 in a half kilo. 16:00 return ... read more

Day 14 Powerless in Paradise this morning - no electricity so no water, no aircon, no good.... Yess ....after breakfast, our new Toyota Commuter arrived. Our mission was to hire a boat to go to Koh Rom. We couldn't remember exactly where we sailed from last time - so pity our poor driver (Rob) - it's along here - no turn right - no turn left - bit further - oh no gone past - U turn - right - no left - anyway - we finally arrived and boat is booked for next Tuesday. Took some photos from opposite side of the water - beautiful location - then turned into the hinterland and located a local roadside bar-resto - Blues Blues - to which we shall return. Tomorrow we are crossing the water to the ... read more

Day 13. Not really done much today. Mr Hertz said he MIGHT exchange our vehicle today so we had to hang around but he never showed and we hope it will be tomorrow, which means another day waiting around. We did manage to nip in to town when we decided he wasn't going to get here, did a bit of shopping , found a bar on the beach and had a beer, that sort of thing. We found a bar on the beach and watched the locals setting up for the nights entertaiment, a rather Spanish like arrangement, with tables and chairs and BBQ's on the sand so we hurried off back to our villa in a quieter part of the island. The island is approx. 20 miles long and 5 miles wide with a huge ... read more

Day 12. Started the blog early today, only 7-30 am and not breakfasted yet. We are going to explore the East side of the island which is much less developed so will let you know what we discover later. Thanks to those who have commented so far. A very different day today as we head south down the eastern seabord side of the island. The eastern coast is totally different from the west in as much as it is still very underdeveloped and quite wild. There are few visitors, the roads are deserted and we discover quiet little fishing villages. When we visied Koh Chang two years' ago, the Wat Salak Phet was undergoing building works. The restoration is now complete and is quite beautiful. The wat was constructed during the reign of King Rama V ... read more

Day 11. After a relaxed breakfast we all had a swim in the sea to cool off. We then had an excursion into the village where we found a cash and carry which sold Singha by the case, ice cream and some other non-essential supplies. Next we thought we would check out the restaurant on the complex for a light lunch. This offers cuisine from many nations and we sampled mostly Thai but some european as we can't resist good old chips. Staying under shelter until the heat of the midday sun had passed, we then strolled back down the beach to plunge in our pool. Good news from Mr Hertz. He is bringing a replacement vehicle to the villa! Answers to quiz's :-Fruit or veg............sweet turnip Bean thing ...........Tamarind Try the new quiz.... read more

Day 10.Some did an early shop, this morning, before some of us got up and brought back the days rations. BEER....and some other stuff like food. Although the food out here is fabulous its difficult to break tradition so it was eggs all round, boiled, fried and scrambled, followed by fresh fruit and toast. We spent the rest of the morning swimming and reading before getting ourselves ready to go out for lunch. A table had been booked at a restaurant called Saffron -on-the -Sea, we had visited 2 years ago because it had been so good then and we weren't disappoined, prawns cooked in five different ways - heaven A little retail therapy on route home .... another day in paradise... read more

Day 9. Lazy day, the first really, really sunny day so we decided to stay in the villa and soak up some rays, swim in the sea and in the pool. Been told it's not PC to take pictures of people in the pool so there aren't any. At about 4pm we set off in to town to pick up a few bits of shopping. Unfortunately on the way we got a puncture and becase we had no tools in the van (thank you Hertz) We had to get out a man. See pictures. Hazel disappeared this afternoon and has brought back some cockles, harvested from the sea, which we are going to have for tea tomorrow.
