As stated on my previous blog, this week is cultural week. We learnt about buddhism in the first half of the week and then since Wednesday, we have been looking at some of the ways that local people make a living. It has been really interesting, as a lot of the places we have visited are all crafty so we have been able to try weaving from bamboo, making dolls, bracelets out of coconut etc. Yesterday we went to Tesco in the morning, very stranbge trip, but the Thai people seem to adore Tesco. You should have seen the size of the queue to get into the car park, was like Meadowhall on Boxing Day lol. It was like bliss though, I got to buy pringles and chocolate!!!!! Though the chocolate did not last long in ... read more

Hi everyone - I have survived the temple stay! It was not as bad as we had been expecting - although there were no beds (just some blankets to put down on a marble floor!). When we got there we did some meditating - sitting then standing and chanting (we were given books to read out the chants!). During the sitting meditation a woman (nun?) started to make strange noises - as we were all meditating it was a bit oddd and slowly we all had to look what was going on! She was in a sort of trance thing?! then started to get up and strip!!!!!!! the monks did not look (especailly as the are not allowed to touch women or have sexual thoughts!!) then some people took her out!! it was near enough impossible ... read more

Hello! The rest of the this week has been based around Thia culture. We have visited many temples!! Thursday and Friday have been holidays here as it is the start of buddhist lent - so children have not been at school, places have been closing earlier etc. On Thursday night we went to a temple to join in with the ceremony - there was alot of chanting - this time we had no books so could not join in and it went on for a long time!! Then we all had candles., incense and flowers, we lit the candles and incense and walked around the temple 3 times, then gave them to a buddha shrine - It was nice to take part in an important celebration with the buddhist people and they are all very welcoming! ... read more

Hey, Thanks Paula and Binni for your lovely comments, you would love working there binni, especially with the little baby tiger cubs as they are gorgeous and you get to play hide and seek with them, and feed them with a bottle ahhhh! This week has been culture week where we have learnt about the religion of Buddhism, it has been really interesting but don't think I could hack being a buddhist with all the meditating! I got a bit bored after 10 minutes never mind half an hour, three times a day!!!! On Tuesday we went to stay over at one of the many temples in Singburi, we have been to see quite a lot of them, which have all been so beautiful so it was a bit of a let down when we came ... read more

Hi everyone!! I've had a great weekend!! We went to the bridge over the river Kwai on Saturday morning, it was a bit scary walking on the bridge - its about as wide as the train track with 2 planks of wood along the sides! and trains run along it! luckily we had just come off the bridge when a train came (dad - got some train pics for you! - but the computer i'm on wont recognise my camera!). we then went onto a tiger temple - there are tigers living in the temple and we got lots of photos stroking tigers (not in cages!) and some very cute 1 month old babies!!! they were playing just like cats - arhhh!! We also then went onto a small waterfall where we could climb and swim ... read more

Hey, Just wanted to add these pics as they are so cute! We went to visit the local village school this morning, wow it was amazing. I cannot wait to do my teaching. The children are so respectful and well behaved, such a contrast to the UK! As you can see in my pics the children have no desks and they start real school at 3 years old! The children in my class still bring bottles of milk to school with them lol! Asthe children are so young they do not start learning english till they are 7. So today in class one little girl kept on speaking to me in Thai, I felt awful not knowing what she was saying! So I askedtheteacher and the little girl wanted meto draw her a chicken and was ... read more

Today I have had a great day. we went to visit one of the schools which I might be teaching in on my third week. Abbi, Sarah, Kate and I went into a kindergarten class (3 & 4 yr olds!) SOOOOO Cute!! they were really well behaved and loved us being there! It was fantastic - I didn't want to leave we only had about an hour with them today! Although they were only 3&4 they were beggining to learn English! WE did some colouring with them - I was so suprised how neat they all were, keeping exactly to ... read more

Hey All, You dont know the effort that I ahve just made to get here and write this blog. It is absolutly POURING it down! I am now drenched but it is a nice change to the 35+ degrees heat that we have had every day so far! Went to the swimming pool this morning in the blistering heat which was soooo refreshing. We had the whole pool to ourselves so it was lovely. Just been to the Royal temple which holds a recling buddha (laying down) made out of gold which is around 30m long. Been to lots of other temples this week which have been interesting as our tour guide (who is hilarious) tells us all the history, rituals etc. Think I may get a little bored of temples by the end of this ... read more
