It all started out with a Skype video call. Bobby discussed his willingness to skip work and jack up a 4day whirlwind tour of his home nation. The onus was then on me to go through the motions of booking flights and arranging visas. Even though it sounds hard to believe, it took me a frustrating 8hours of running around to organise my flight and re-entry visa. Japan can not be underestimated in this respect. Paper work, inflexibility to bend the rules and unclear instructions are just three things which add up to a lot of fluffing around, even for the basic of tasks. Enough whinging and to the story... Bobby picked me up from Taipei. Luckily, my arrival coincided with Bobby taking care of his sick Grandma *cough*. Pulling off this excuse is no easy ... read more

Going to the Night Market: The other day we went to the night market in Taipei called Shilin. I went into a shop with lots of shoes and I bought some runners. The store was not built in a mall it was built in a stand on the sidewalk. It was very small. When we got hungry we went to a corn dog stand. It was small. It had many lights and was very hot and they put out a display of them. There was original, pepper and cheese. I had the original one. After we were done eating we went to a ring stand and I bought a ring for my middle finger. The lady from the stand said I was very cute. I said thank Shay-Shay and that means thank you in Chinese. When ... read more

Ai-yo…. Being tired has a new meaning after navigating thousands of people for a while. Take the Shilin Night Market… I love markets and I really love the mood of the night markets…a whole undercurrent of humanity that runs strong in the streets. One of the things I really wanted to show the kids and have them experience was a night market. We took the MRT (mass rapid transit) a few stations down the line towards Taipei City to check out a huge night market there. The train proved a really effective and mostly un-scary means of getting around. I definitely want to try that again one day. It’s too bad that some people can’t offer an ounce of kindness when you are loaded down with kids sometimes. W and I were discussing that very topic ... read more

My mom helps me with typing my stories. I just don’t know how this whole idea started about traveling but I am excited. I told my class we were going to Thailand and they said “cool”. I showed the class on the map and we talked about it. My mom came and told the class where we were going to take a train to Chiang Mai. After that day we went and packed. We packed clothes and some games. Video games and music and Polly Pocket stuff. Because we would sit on the plane for 18 hours and if we didn’t we would just sit and sleep and sit and sleep. The next day I went to my friend’s house named Jamie and we had a sleep over and then we were ready to get ... read more

The damned roosters weren’t the only creatures up early this morning. Miles got up this morning with one thing on his mind….taking Jake (w.’s pup) for a scooter ride. The fun of this is that taking Jake out requires tying him to the back of the scooter on a lead and driving the scooter up the mountain with pup trailing behind. Miles of course thinks this is the most fun thing ever! He loves the scooter and will do anything to get a chance to ride it. Marrin also loves the scooter, but as she is developing a bit of a crush on Wayne, she waits until it is time to pick up Wayne from school and goes on the scooter with w. to collect him after hours. Ahhh, so cute. He is such a handsome ... read more
