Hello Everyone! Happy 4th of July if you are in the U.S. In the last blog, the photos all look black. I am not sure why. I tried to upload two of them again without any luck. Sorry. I'll have to show them to you later. If you really want to see them, email me and I can try to email them to you. Nothing much to say here. Just another hot and rainy day in Seoul. No new pictures either. I'll try to do better soon. ... read more

Anyang....... I knew it would be a good one. In fact, I almost predicted to a tee how the day would go. Thankfully it went fabulously. Ususally when I look forward to something it all falls apart. Fortunately (this is where I would tell my elementaries, who love the game "Fortunately, Unfortunately"...."no kids, there wasn't an unfortunately this time, and don't you ruin it for me with your pessimism...".......ok, maybe i wouldn't say that) we made it to the hockey game with ourselves and most of the wobbly pops in one piece (Sean almost lost a limb after he dropped the cooler of beers for the bus ride. That would have been a funny riot...20 screaming Canadians beating on an American in the streets of Itaewon). When we got to the arena I could feel my ... read more

Note: Photos have been deleted from this page because: 1) they didn't show up to begin with, and 2) they have images of my children, which I would rather not show to the public. Sorry I haven't written in so long! It's been a bit busy here, and I forget 1) to take pictures, and 2) to upload them onto the computer. I am finally getting around to it. Today's journal will be short. I've been helping out at an English institute here in Korea that's for children. It's been a great experience, but very time consuming. I'm making some new friends, but unfortunately, it's only for a short time and then we'll return to the U.S. on July 30th. Of course, we're looking forward to getting back to the States soon too. We miss everyone ... read more

a bigger failure rate than my calc 1 class. And that IS saying something. “60 to 70 percent are held back after they’re evaluated (to study the next level)” said my program coordinator. She told me that it wouldn’t happen to me though, that I shouldn’t worry. 60-70%? Yes, I am worried. Then again, Korean language level 1 should be quite the cinch either way. And yet, then again, I should probably be worried about level 1 the most since I’ll probably slack from what I think of potentially easy. Either way, I don’t intend to be held back a class unless the studying involves coming home and studying till 1 am. No way am I doing that every day. And here's a picture of Shee-oo and me! I'll paparazzi the other family members some other ... read more

So here I am, at the end of my first day at my home stay family. I’d like to blurt out everything I want to say in one syllable as I usually like to when writing my entries, which turn out to be incoherent sentences, but I’d like to take my time on this memorable experience. I’ll start on the two little kids. When I first came to the apartment and rang the door bell, I was greeted by a little nine yr old boy who didn’t seem a touch bit shy. He, Shee-oo, was the only one there at the time, and he was all too kind of a host. He knows English quite well, especially for a nine yr old who learns off tapes! I was quite astonished overall of his demeanor and I’m ... read more

It went to game seven. Once again the stakes were high, the pressure on, and the Cinderella team from good ol' Alberta lived up to the pressure and brought 'er to a suspenseful game seven of the Stanley Cup Playoffs: the best sports scenario in the history of sports. In Korea, spirits were high, booze was flowing....game six was a blow out to top it all off. On Sunday the Rocky Mountain Tavern looked just like SChanks did, I imagine...people strewn all over the place in plastic deck chairs and camped out on the floor in the spaces between the seats. It was a beautiful sight, even more moving when the anthem came on and the bar, in unison, stood in swaying respect for their country, voices and glasses raised, hearts pounding. A world away and ... read more

I do hope this world finds you all in at least reasonable health. Wishing you all well and that jive, take care. Here's another assault upon your senses for you. I'm sure you can even smell this from where you are. This may not be as bowl shaking and genital giggling as the last update, but I guarrantee you'll need at least one hand free... Anyhow, there's been a few major happenings. Namely... I've become quite old and decrepit... all of 22 years under (and over) my (non-existent) belt. There's also been the discovery of the new Irish Bar in Anyang... which is a bit of fun. They even gave me a cocktail for my birthday! I've met the manager of "FilmNara" the biggest camera accessories distributor in Korea... and his family. They're a lot of ... read more

I really need to learn korean fast.... here's why... I'm to leave seok-il's house and ride the subway to Lotte World. All good, I know how to do this easily. I'm to go meet Hee-seok's mother and Dong-won there, but since I forgot my cellphone, I have the crude direction of "1st basement, lotte department, and fountain underlined (that being the meeting place). I was given a phone card too, just in case I couldn't find the people. Now I get off Jamsil station, get to the 1st basement, AND find the water fountain... but no ones there... no, there are people, like 500 people in this large area, but no Dong-won or ajumma. Okay, I'll just use my phone card then I find a phone booth and stick the card into its respective slot. Jammed... ... read more

So we're here, We arrived after an nice 22 hours of travel. Thanks for the drugs Katie. We we were only conscious for about 3 hours of a ten hour flight from Vancouver to Osaka, Japan. From there it was smooth sailing. We hung in the Osaka airport for a couple of hours. Which, by the way, was awesome. Best airport experience of my life. It was the first time I ever felt like I was seeing something just by being in an airport. We watched Japanese television on a nice gigantic flat screen. They love to hit each other in the face. They're a lot like Pat'a friends. We also met some Korean Americans from Atlanta. They were really nice and taught us how to say important things like the names of Korean alcohols ... read more
