This weekend I had one of the best times since I have been in country, despite Dan still being away. (Only one more week, woo hoo!) I had a three day weekend because it was Korea's Memorial Day, so no work on Friday. I more or less wasted the day away sleeping, snacking, reading, and beginning a now full-blown addiction to Grey's Anatomy. (I swear I have never seen an episode before, but now I watch all sorts of full season TV shows online- www.watchtvsitcoms.com) Friday night I went to dinner with Kelly and Patricia. We took the train to Uijungbu, where Patricia lives, and had an awesome Kalbi (Galbi) dinner. Kalbi is the name of the meat (pork, I believe?) and at this restaurant it is marinated in a really great sweet sauce I can ... read more

My sunsaengnim let me borrow a little portable wheel to have in my room. Now I'm not so mean to my roommate where I would use it in my room, but I will bring it out on the balcony. It took time to set up, and it was awkward trying to throw sitting on the ground. It was hard to control the speed and I realized I didn't have all the right tools. I'm really excited to have this in my room! To get the wheel into my room my professor helped me by giving me a ride to my dorm with the wheel. Since it was so heavy she also let me borrow her little... how would you call it? It's shaped like an "L" with wheels at the corner where the lines meet and ... read more

I'm so bad at writing blogs. But at least I write good ones when I do, but I'm usually so busy. This past weekend I went to a Temple Stay. It was just overnight and I wish so much that it was longer. It was actually down in Gyeongju where I went before. But farther out on a mountain. It was beautiful and so peaceful. Stress that I didn't even know I had disappeared. We had free time but also regimented schedule. It was unique in that it had a martial art there as well: Sunmudo. It is kind of like Tae kwon do, but not really. I have a video on you tube of one of the kids demonstrating. Don't let him fool you, he's a black belt. Unfortunately I didn't get a video of ... read more

My englishi not so good. Yes, ENGLISHEE. That is how native koreans pronounce it just because of hangul. I do notice that the longer I stay here, the poorer my english gets. It's not that I don't get to use it, because many koreans speak english, but the slang I use doesn't make sense to them. I truly realize how much of my english language has a localized flavor that I find really hard to get around. That is why I don't feel like I have the qualifications to teach english like so many other foreigners are here to do. I was approached by a random mother at the museum the other day. I could tell she wanted something because she literally ran after me, but i didn't know what. She asked where I was from, ... read more

By Chris: Left the balmy 30 degree conditions of the beautiful Boracay Island to set forth for Seoul, South Korea, however a delightful 7 hour stopover awaited us at Bangkok Airport, i think Ive seen just about enough of that particular Building !!!! However my mood was tempered somewhat by the fact that i got an upgrade to business class !!!! Happy Days, a better seat meant slept virtually the whole way, far nicer than cattle class, Im not sure If Ill be able to go back !!! So w arrived in Seoul and got directed by Mandy, an american english teacher to an area called sinchon, when we got here the snow began to fall and we couldnt see any hotels at all, however luckily a guy who spoke English took pity on me in ... read more
