I' haven't exactly been on the ball with my blog lately, and combined with my AWESOME memory this one will more than likely have a few gaps. However, I'm going to attempt to summarize an eventful four weeks in one blog. I'll start with my second weekend in Korea we made the journey to Nami Island. I was unfamiliar with Nami before I visited, but to anyone who is familiar with Korean drama's, specifically "Winter Sonata" will know it well. Nami, like almost everywhere else in Korea, is a couples scene, where lovers go to show off their relationship to the masses and reminisce over images from the original sappy-ass Korean mini series. We started the trip just walking around, taking in the sites, and at some point a camera crew spotting the "waygooks" and forced ... read more

So today was my Kindergarten students graduation. While I've only been with them a week, I'm actually going to miss the lil buggers because they are so freaking sweet. It was one of those experiences where you try and go the whole day without laughing because you couldn't believe what was actually happening, but you hold back out of respect because you know this is how they do things. For example, in between the parents holding up signs like we were at a sporting event, music ranging from the 20th Century Fox theme, the James Bond and Mission Impossible themes, and yes, even the Adam's family theme, I found myself dieing at the sheer ridiculousness of the children's costumes, dance numbers, and their own version of one of my favorite childhood stories, Pinocchio. With that being ... read more

Where to start? How about with my AWESOME 24 hour flight (on which I did not sleep because I was neither hungover or drunk) to South Korea from Des Moines International Airport. Yes, Des Moines has an international airport, we fly to Canada and shit. My first flight was from DM to Chicago on what appeared to be a 8 passenger plane that they managed to squeeze another 12 on, and was fortunate enough to sit next to the ONLY lady on the flight who was scared shitless of being in the air, and just preceded to have a temper tantrum the ENTIRE FLIGHT while balls deep in her prayers to our Lord and Savior. About 25 min. into the journey she noticed that I was not praying, and took that as her sign that ... read more

Well, this is new!! Never had a blog before, but I need somewhere to vent/express my feelings over the next year!!! Well, I'm going to South Korea to teach english.....turns out half of Canada is actually doing the same thing, lol. Go figure. I'm really really really looking forward to it, but it's mixed with pure terror at the prospect of hopping on a plane, and leaving all my friends and family for an entire year. I'm looking around at all this stuff I bought and think of everything i have left to do, and although I'm really excited, I wish i could just go back to university and do what I'm comfortable with, but I obviously know that's not an option. I'm going to Goyang, which is northwest of Seoul. I think I'm teaching the ... read more

Hi all, "Boom Boom Musicland" This blog includes a plethora of events and news....the first being my new job as an actress on a new children's TV show for a large Korean broadcasting company, EBS. The show is called "Boom Boom Musicland," and I play a character named "Jeannie". I am one of two "foreign" characters on the show, the third character being an adorable 10 year old girl from Korea named "Pinky." And finally, my co-worker Brad is the other foreign actor....he is from Canada and plays a character named "DJ Boom Boom"...although he looks like more of mix between Robin Hood and an elf, than he does a DJ! I can't really talk though...my costume has changed multiple times....everything from trendy Korean clothes, to a similar lighter green elf-like costume, to a pink dress. ... read more

Ooh Wee! probably one of the coolest outings we've had yet! Me (cath) in my highly evolved brain forgot to bring my ID photos with me which is, we're told, a pretty important part of getting an alien card. (Take me to your leader... :)We tried, rather unsuccessfully, to see if the neighbouring town just down the road would have a place that can take ID photos which turned out to be a really great ID photoless walk. We were told that if we took the staff shuttle bus (free trip, always keen, yay!!) into Ilsan (one of the neighbouring towns on the way to Seoul) we could get them taken at a booth in the subway. What a plan!! So we did :) We went with another SA girl, Pauline (been at EV for about ... read more

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." St Augustine PLACES VISITED: Visited Countries Map A SOMEWHAT MAP OF OUR TRAVELS: http://www.travelblog.org/gmaps/map_37x.html Well, we are finally home. We have travelled nearly 20,000 kms (these are air figures...remember we travelled mostly by bus) starting in KOREA, THAILAND, MALAYSIA, CAMBODIA, VIETNAM, LAOS and ending in KOREA. It was a great 4 months and we will remember this trip for a long time. We have over 1500 pictures and 10 hours of video to prove it. We met a lot of great people, some who we will keep in touch with and hopefully see again soon ( Vince, Alva if u r reading). We also met a lot of weird people. But most of all we met a lot of people from ... read more

We’ve heard Mo’vember is a widespread phenomenon…a little word play that produces some fairly disturbing results…especially when done en masse as it was here at the Village. In case you’ve not heard of it, the month of November becomes moustache-growing month, and a sporting air of competition imbues every interaction of the men involved. So, on November 1, all participants shaved to baby-faced smoothness and assembled on the steps of City Hall for a “before” photo. Over the next 30 days, the men folk propagated as intently as they could…secretly intimidated by the growing ability of certain Kiwis, and giggling like little schoolgirls at the measly efforts of other competitors. There were to be awards for a variety of categories. Some sculpted their creations from the beginning; others let it all hang out until the final ... read more

Hello again! I have finally posted some pictures, have a look! Things are looking up for me, today, one of the 5 year-olds asked me to help her go to the bathroom and last Friday, I got a group hug from my whole 5 year-old class! Score! They are finally warming up to the scary giant that I am! So I was happy about that, well except for the juicy snot (morve en francais) that was left all over my brand-new 3$ HK pants. Also, tonight, the yoga instructor fixed my position, I guess she has realized I am here to stay, it's not because it was so good before that she had nothing to fix, no worries. I am still the worst in the class, by far, after twice a week for 2.5 months. Oh ... read more
