By 10am we were on the road out of Sagada heading to Mt Pulag. We stopped for lunch in Banaue. Alfredo knew a good place and we had a fantastic vegetable curry between us out in the balcony with a view over the town. It was a little boring going partially back the way we’d come but that all changed in the next town of Lagawe when a tuk-tuk drove into the side of the car, it hit the back as Alfredo swerved. They both pulled over, clearly no deal could be done (payment) as a few minutes later they were both off to the police station as Alfredo needed a police report to claim on the insurance. He was calm but pissed, the car wasn’t his it was his boss’. It was better we didn’t ... read more

“And now we walk,” Wilson says, jumping from the back of the 4x4 truck where he is seated. Our vehicle is on a wide clearing, parked with other 4x4s. The passengers of the other vehicles are slowly getting down as well. It’s a beautiful morning and the early rays of the sun have arrived. Occasional gusts of wind provide a cold respite from the increasingly strong heat. Nearby, a queue of young men and women in army clothes jog to the ravine, where Wilson says our trek will start. “They’re army students having their graduation today.” Before us loom tall rocks, protruding from the hardened lahar on our feet, like something you only see in movies. We’re in the base of Mt. Pinatubo, near the Pampanga-Tarlac-Zambales tripoint. It’s 6 a.m. and we’re about to start our ... read more

MOUNT PINATUBO located in ZAMBALES has created one of the biggest natural destructions in Philippine History and in the World. The Volcano erupted from July 1990 to June 15, 1991 and formed Ash-falls from Northern Luzon up to Northern Visayas for months, raising Death Tolls from Ash-floods, closing roads and disrupting land, air and sea travels in the area of the Northern Philippines. And that is Nature’s Destructive and unparalleled power and it can’t be stopped. However, after 20 years, Mount Pinatubo is considered as one of the most recommended Tourist spots in Central Luzon where locals are already earning from the ruins of gray ashes… My Voyage to the top of Mount Pinatubo is one of my most memorable adventures because I endured a lot but it was all worth it. From a 2 hour ... read more

It will take much time to digest what transpired today...three hour trek in a WW2 transport vehicle built for perhaps 10 men in which we had approximately 31 people plus food and medicine for 75 families. We forded rivers and climbed hills crammed together in the most uncomfortable setting imaginable as we traveled to the tribal village of Nacolcol. However, the team came out of the experience in complete awe with what we saw, the interaction with the tribal people, seeing a civilization that is living the same way today as they did 200 to 300 years ago; no electricity, no modern convenience, medical assistance. I will have each person write more later, but for now I am posting one video. Dave... read more

I decided to take a little breather form the sun, sand and sea. And that's how I found myself trekking the grand canyons of Mount Pinatubo, crossing the seemingly endless number of streams with some evil-looking sulfur formation on its sides and to be finally treated to the blue-green waters of the Pinatubo crater. * Before the Mt Pinatubo tour * I had to meet other solo climbers and group of trekkers at 3am(!) somewhere in Quezon City as was written in the itinerary of Tripinas tours. On a regular day, that'd be just the time that I'd go to bed. Geez! Why so early, I thought to myself. But I realized that its better to start early to avoid traffic, the horrible sun, etc. Anyway I was really excited to travel to the Pinatubo since ... read more

Route to Crater of PInatubo James Dylan Two Weeks in the Philippines: Part I: Angeles City and Mt. Pinatubo I was working as a contractor on a one year contract with a telecom company in Doha, Qatar, and 6 months in I decided to start planning my two week vacation. I was dating a cute girl from the Philippines at the time, and decided to take her advice and go to the Philippines with her, as a girlfriend/guide. I was working with many other contractors in Qatar, and almost every one of them has a house or business in the Philippines, (which from here on I will write as "PI", for Philippine Islands). The other contractors praised life in the PI, telling me how beautiful the girls are, how cheap it is there, so many Americans ... read more
