A Traveller’s Act Of Compassion (A Helping Hand)
Published: January 21st 2012Asia » Philippines » Cagayan De OroThe last time I’ve visited Cagayan De Oro was last January 7 of 2011 and I had a blast with its extreme adventures like the White Water Rafting, as well as its delicious mouth-watering grilled foods in the street party held every weekends. Cagayan De Oro gave me a unique journey where no other place in the Philippines can make you experience, people’s golden smiles have also warmed my heart, it’s as if I am one of them… So in the later part of 2011, I heard a very heartbreaking news, that Typhoon Sendong, the last typhoon to hit the Philippines on 2011 has left nothing but a tremendous catastrophe to the people living in Cagayan De Oro especially to those near the Cagayan De Oro River where the popular White Water Rafting is held. Typhoon ... read more
A Traveller’s Rough River Rapids (Cagayan De Oro’s White Water Rafting)
Published: December 20th 2011Asia » Philippines » Cagayan De OroWhere else could you experience the best White Water Rafting in the Philippines but in the original Cagayan De Oro River! As soon as I arrived in CAGAYAN DE ORO airport and after checking in to Country Village Hotel, I immediately went to ECO-ADVENTURE to avail of their services and I chose the 700 Philippine pesos Package that will pass through 14 Major Rapids and will last up to 3 to 5 hours of White Water Rafting. How exhilarating is that?! As they were briefing me on what to do during rafting, I can’t help but get excited because I only get to watch these on television and now I’m already about to experience it. How cool is that?! So, as I was rafting and every time I pass through a Major Rapid, I can’t help ... read more
The taxi driver was driving like a mad man; I guess he took it too seriously when I told him he really really had to hurry because I am very much running late – yea, cramming again – but made it on time once again (thanks to the crazy driving) to meet up with Martin, Lori, and Ren at the Airport. Our plane took off at around four in the morning and by half past five I was already eating pancakes at Jollibee Cagayan De Oro, Mindanao at last! The city is nice and clean, it somehow reminds me of Sabah. Most people, especially the cab/taxi drivers would speak to us in the local dialect, Bisaya, even if we talk to them in Tagalog; we didn’t mind much since our dialect (Martin & I) is somewhat ... read more
I have travelled to HK for the first time last September 3-8, 2010.. I must say that was the most wonderful experience i have ever encountered so far together with my family.. My husband and our two children.... I must say HK offer lot entertainment young and old alike.... Our first day was spent just familiarizing the place. We stayed at Yau Ma Tei as advised by my sister who went there a month ahead... But I must say that I should have picked Tsim Sha Tsui area because that's where the a lot more tourist attractions is located.... The Gateway (one of the biggest shopping mall) is there, the HK Botanical Garden and the Avenue of "Stars where you can witness the Symphony of lights around 7:30-8:00pm at the Victoria Harbour...Or maybe one can also ... read more
I am not really the adventurous type but when I learned that white water rafting is a must-try experience in Cagayan De Oro, I did not hesitate to sign up. Cagayan De Oro was actually just a jump-off point for us because my friends and I were bound for Camiguin, but since we would not make it in time for the last ferry going to the island, we decided to spend our first day in CDO. The guys from Kagay (the premiere white water rafting company in the Philippines) picked us up from the airport and took us to the rafting site. They provided the paddles and safety gears (helmet and life vest) and even helped us put them on. I must say their service is impressive and first-class, so to speak. Tata, the River Guide ... read more
White Water Rafting in Cagayan de Oro
Published: November 10th 2009Asia » Philippines » Cagayan De OroRiding the Rapids - Literally! Most of us have been on a whitewater raft---it’s easy, breezy and you’re with a group of six individuals that can actually save your ass in case you fall. If you want something more adventurous, try river tubing. Imagine yourself traveling on high-speed white water on a tire tube of an old truck…this is River tubing on the Saub River. The tube has makeshift handles on the left and right, plus a guide or two depending on the water conditions. Rain or shine, fearless guides are up to take you on their favorite trip. We decided to ride after the rain. Good move? Bad move? We moved....faster than a speeding bullet. The dips were unbelievable, and the adrenaline pumped like no other. How can you really describe white water in the ... read more
Cagayan De Oro in Southern Philippines
Published: October 14th 2009Asia » Philippines » Cagayan De OroIt's another long weekend. And many have planned for this long weekend. Just slightly more than an hour's plane ride from Manila and Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao welcomed us. There is work to do, and more.... Cagayan de Oro in Northern Mindanao, but in the southern part of the Philippines Cagayan de Oro looks and smells like another metropolis but there is a provincial touch to the place as people from hotel staff to vendors to the taxi driver seem to have enough time for everyone. There is no rush about how things are done . Perhaps people are more relaxed, and more accepting of "strangers" while visitors appear to be more trusting rather than cynical of the kindness of strangers. One may even say "laid back", yet the progressive economy of the place ... read more
It was my Lola's (Grandmother's) 85th birthday on the 30 November so I made my way to Cagayan De Oro to join the celebrations with the rest of the family who had gathered from all over The Philippines. All my dad's brothers and sisters were there with the exception of one who is living in Saudi at the moment, but it was great catching up with relatives I hadn't seen since I was a baby. Lola's actual birthday celebrations were hilarious and was designed more so for all the kids (my cousins' children)...there are so many of them. My uncle arranged for a party host to come along and play some games with the kids and for a Winnie the Pooh mascot to come along. Seeing Lola receive flowers from Winnie the Pooh was a pretty ... read more
