Manila being the capital of the Philippines holds power, commerce, trade, security, entertainment - therefore a lot of history and culture of the country. First time travelers to the country may find the city very friendly, for almost everyone in the Philippines speaks English. It is also a good representation of the whole country - though not complete - for in Manila you can find Binondo to represent trade and commerce, dating as early as the first Chinese traders because it is near a harbor. This area is little China town - covering Divisoria and Tutuban. All sorts of merchandise can be found here, best deals and freshest finds for it is the center of all markets in Manila - covering local produce as well as imports. Riding the Rapids - Literally! Most of us have been on a whitewater raft---it’s easy, breezy and you’re with a group of six individuals that can actually save your ass in case you fall. If you want something more adventurous, try river tubing. Imagine yourself traveling on high-speed white water on a tire tube of an old truck…this is River tubing on the Saub River. The tube has makeshift handles on the left and right, plus a guide or two depending on the water conditions. Rain or shine, fearless guides are up to take you on their favorite trip. We decided to ride after the rain. Good move? Bad move? We moved....faster than a speeding bullet. The dips were unbelievable, and the adrenaline pumped like no other. The Philippines is commonly visited by typhoons - 24 in a year on an average. But with the climate change, it has been very difficult for many of our country men since the typhoons carried lots of rainwater. Causing floods, landslides and even death. With friends and supporters, our small group trooped to Asingan, Pangasinan which has been flooded by at least 8 feet of water when typhoon Parma(Pepeng) hovered around the region for around 7 days. Many houses were submerged in water, with majority of them only a single floor. Residents then had to stay on top of the roof or transfer to other houses that are higher.
